It's way more horrifying when you leave the fate of people in the hands of other people, who're flawed and subjective. AI is rational and operates by logic, not emotions, which is much better for those sorts of problem solving.

Honestly if it get to the point where he have AI that can actually function as a lawyer then it would be a win for everyone. Its democratizing law, everyone would have access to the best lawyer.
@DeadDancers Жыл бұрын
@@greenlitlleman they also make up total lies and pass it as truth. 😁 What do they call it? AI dreaming, or something? There was that lawyer who had (was it Chat GPT?) an AI research historical cases for him to reference and it just straight-up made it all up, and assured him it was real when he asked. And there was a research project done where human programmers or mathematicians or whatever we’re presented with AI answers to questions and asked to score correct or not-correct and they found that many incorrect answers were scored as correct in part because of the confidence with which they were delivered, and because for more complex situations, the initial answer *was* correct and it only went off the rails later in subtle but critical ways. I too lean towards trusting machines over humans, but AI is nowhere even near being more than a toy right now.
@DeadDancers Жыл бұрын
@@kdme I agree, but one of the problems with law is *interpretation*. Also, nuance. Balancing things like intent, the accused’s reaction after the crime, their level of cooperation and then balancing extensive and conflicting precedence, especially where prior cases may have been very similar but not exactly the same. An AI could assess case law and tell the judge ‘my client, the defendant, should be given 6 years based on what I know about the evidence and the precedence on file’. Lawyers are paid as much to argue and misdirect and manipulate jurors as they are to know the law and help you present the best possible case. And while you might say ‘that’s WHY lawyers should be AI’ - don’t forget case law is also full of racial, gendered and socioeconomic bias. The very material we’d use to train the lawyers would teach it hundreds of years of social bias. And we can’t not-teach them that because cases are where interpretations of the law become precedence to use in today’s case.

@jeffgauthier725 Жыл бұрын
As a Law Student, AI doesn’t help you much because most Law school classes are 100% based on exam scores (70% of your grade is final exam and 30% midterm). There are no “homework” or “assignment” grades in most law school classes (writing classes are the only exception).They literally don’t allow you to bring a phone into the building during exam week. Even you could ask AI, you could only use it to cheat if you understand the correct questions about the very specific law and you do not have enough time to type in the questions (each question has a scenario that’s at least two paragraphs long, with 50 multiple choice questions and an essay with a fact pattern that’s two pages long.) You would simply be too slow even if you could get away with it. That also doesn’t get you past the Bar which is even more intense when it comes to how much time it takes to answer the questions.

I asked ChatGPT what it would do if it was a lawyer and had to defend someone who caused a triple homicide. Answer: "As an AI language model, I cannot provide a specific defense strategy for an individual who has caused a triple homicide. However, if I were a lawyer, my approach would depend on the specific circumstances of the case, such as the evidence available, the nature of the charges, and the jurisdiction in which the trial is taking place. Some possible defense strategies for a triple homicide case could include challenging the validity or admissibility of evidence, arguing that the prosecution has not met its burden of proof, presenting evidence of mitigating circumstances or mental illness, or negotiating a plea bargain with the prosecution. It is important to note that each case is unique and requires a careful evaluation of the evidence and circumstances involved. As a lawyer, my duty would be to zealously represent my client within the bounds of the law and ethical standards of the legal profession." The lawyer should've used his phone, ChatGPT could actually help him.
