My name is David Garman and I am Mike's nephew who lived with him and his daughters. I have been on the sidelines listening to this podcast and ithers. I am not sitting on the sidelines and being quiet anymore. First Mike had contacted me at the behest of my step father Lyle Garman. Mike and Lyle were concocting a wrongful death lawsuit to sue a hospital and a few doctors over my mother's sudden death. When Mike called me that he was having a hard time trying to take care of Alissa and Sarah and asked me if I could stay with him to help him with his daughters because of his health issues. I did not ask him if I could move in with him, I already had a place. I was not homeless or destitute as he has claimed over the years. He also said he needed financial help as well so I believed his stories and thought I could help him. It wasn't until a few years later that I realized his true intention was to get me involved with this lawsuit and to convince my late brother as well because these idiots had an attorney file a class action lawsuit. Back then I was drinking alcohol, heavily. I was self medicating because I am a combat veteran and my mother had just died. One night I came home and found a VHS tape that clearly had Alissa and I believe one of her friends posing nude. As soon as I saw that I called a friend to come pick me up immediately and I left hastily. The next day I called my mom's mother and sister to tell them what I found at Mike's house. When I spoke to them they were not to terribly shocked because they were suspicious of Mike having an inappropriate relationship with Alissa. I wish that I had called CPS and reported this. But I didn't. I live with this every day because I was a coward. Mike didn't kick me out he didn't take me in because I was destitute. When I was approached by the Phoenix PD via a flyer about Alissa in 2008 I decided that I needed to do the right thing and come forward with what I knew. And I still will. I loved Mike Turney. He was more of a father to me than my real and step father. I truly wanted to aspire to be like him. I don't want any attention and I do not seek attention. This isn't about me. This is about a 17 year old girl whose life was snuffed out because her step father didn't want anyone to know of his dirty secret. Mike Turney killed her. And that truth will come out. My heart goes out to Sarah and her brothers and the hell that they have and still do endure.

To be fair, it’s possible Alyssa begged her friends and boyfriend to not say anything. I mean, she said she was scared he’d kill her. I can only imagine what would happen if they did a wellness check because her friends or boyfriend reported and what would’ve happened after that wellness check. That being said, her teacher DEFINITELY should’ve done something. That’s a grown adult who had an obligation to report something.

I saw the episode about Alissa when it aired on ID (so, before Sarah realized some of these things, I believe), and I got such a bad read off the dad. When he said that, well, it was over, I was already uncomfortable with him from other things he said, but that line has warning bells all over. The word choice is just... scary. It's scary. It's even worse to think about the cameras in the house, though, imo. Secret cameras? Inside your house? I'm uncomfortable with Nanny cams, personally (though I understand them and why people have them). Hidden cams is just. So sketchy.

I think she said it because he used to record her and at that age she made the connection between the recorder and him and blurted it out. I'm very surprised he didn't erase or record it. Maybe he took pride in a sick way of having it on recording knowing that the evidence was there in so many tapes of him abusing and yet he still wan't caught. He's a very disgusting man and I hope he isn't hurting anyone else. I also hope he gets what he deserves soon.

Ellie Paget just because another charity was busted for fraud doesnt mean ALL charities are scamming people. That is why there are charitIES, they are not all grouped under one organization. They are all organized and ran by different individuals who have different morals. Some are shitty, some are not. The same as everything else in life. So please, unless you have direct proof that Thorn is a scam, please don't go around stating that they are. You could potentially stunt the growth of a movement that could help millions of children.

This is my first time hearing about this case but I’m definitely more into it and this was my thought exactly!! I feel like he’s for sure the one who was SO obsessed with her and I didn’t like how much he was into her life like that.... people can see him as the “overprotective parent” but that was BEYOND that! He was literally trying to make sure, at every point that he can still have her to himself and I KNOW he was jealous of Alissa’s bf etc. She didn’t run away, no one in the union was fatter her. He killed her. And unfortunately, her sister Sarah probably got the murder story as accurate as possible. I believe that what Sarah was allegedly saying happened to Alissa, I believe that’s EXACTLY what happened. I just really hope one day they can prove it and nail this bastard.

Sometimes people reach calling people a creep, far faster with men and in some cases it's not always warranted, just because theyre a man, not saying that's the case here because yes I agree he's creepy, just in general

I signed the petition and I'm glad to see it's almost at its goal. You will get justice, Alissa, and I'm so unbelievably sorry it wasn't soon enough.

the upsetting thing about media coverage in missing persons cases is that people just lose interest. if there aren’t leads being followed or the case has been cold for years, then media will often drop the case because they either don’t care anymore or people are losing hope. it’s awful when you think about it, because a little more media coverage could make someone talk. they might even bring closure to a family - whether that’s by bringing the missing person home or just finding out where they went and what happened to them.

LUNA. it’s even worse for non white persons in america. they barely get much interest in public eye compared to white kids missing. i just wish all missing persons got coverage. they all deserve it.

LUNA. Well if the case has gone old and there is no new information for years, what is the media supposed to do? The media reports on NEWS.

They'll report on us spreading awareness, if we can make it big enough. This isn't just for this girl. This could start to help more people. Kendall's videos have already raised 20,000$ to a company that looks for these people. Just like the Me Too movement, just because it happened in the past doesn't mean media won't talk about it. They NEED to talk about it.

If there is enough attention, I’m sure more people will hear about it and get involved. I had never heard about this case until just now, with Kendall’s video.

"he was a drunk so he kicked him out" Man, if he was a drunk, why did he fill their mini fridge with beer? Also, most people who are children who claim that they've been sexually assaulted aren't lying about it. I don't care what the law says, he definitely sexually assaulted Alissa. That boyfriend knew what was up and I wish he would've called the police. I wish the teacher who suspected sexual abuse would've called the police too.

It's really touching to see you shine a light on these cases that never get any attention. I would've never known about this case if it weren't for you. I truly hope Alissa is still alive but if not, I hope Sarah will get justice for her and find some evidence since the police clearly was unable to do that

ryan carson I feel like the police are holding back on information on purpose. I mean he was a detective he must know someone higher up in the system. Plus imagine how bad the department would look for hiring such a man who abused, killed and hid the body.

_cxj S exactly! My stepdad is so amazing and I’d never scream ‘dads a pervert’ unless he was one, which he’s not. I saw someone who’s like ‘she’s probably joking’, why would you joke about that? it’s not even a funny joke, and it’s really random.

I feel so bad for Sarah, losing her sister, finding out her father isn't the man she thought he was, now caught up in the whole story. I hope she finds peace in life and good things come to her. Also, there is too much evidence against the dad for him not to be involved somehow. Either she actually ran away to get away from him or he had something to do with it. Like what the nephew said he saw on the videotape? Thats way too weird and specific to be made up. And all the other little things. He sounds like a creep, just was really good at hiding it. And he took all his creepiness out on Alissa, targeting her as the "rebellious" one and treating Sarah differently. How crazy. :(

Not a law expert but as believable as the evidence may be from the stories, I think it isn’t valid on court since it’s lacking more proof and might have been considered assumptions since there are no solid evidence:( i really hope alissa gets her justice
