I kinda fell out of love with my Whoop. My biggest issue was that when it was on my left wrist if I went for a walk every now and again it would record hilariously inaccurate heart rate data. Would throw my strain off by a lot. Which if it isn't gonna get that right why bother.
@BrandonTalbot2 ай бұрын
Yeah I know they just improved it pretty dramatically with an update a few months back

Ok for real mine really struggles with this. Is there some kind of design problem with it that causes this problem?

I also find myself in the position of falling out of love with it. After 5 years, for me it something about getting contact dermatitis from the superknit band and watching my wrist bubble that was a major turn off.

Yep. I had whoop for 2 years. And then got a polar Hr strap and realised how inaccurate the whoop is (for me). And that was the end of that.

I've been a WHOOP member for nearly 5 years now, and I absolutely love mine as well. That said, Apple Watch is the gold standard as far as the accuracy of the sensor array goes. Since WHOOP has been in the wearable game since 2012, they should have a far more accurate heart rate sensor in 2024. The fact that they've gone 3+ years without releasing new hardware, during which time they apparently spent 3 years developing a new silicone band, does concern me a bit. I'm far more interested in new hardware vs. new colorways of bands! Keep up the great work, Brandon! I loved your take on GQ's "10 Things I Cannot Live Without'. You came as very authentic and genuine in said video!
@BrandonTalbot2 ай бұрын
Yeah Apple Watch has the best sensors but they’re pretty limited. They can’t pull anywhere close to the amount of readings the whoop can so it does have that goin for them. Glad you’re enjoying it! And thanks for the support!
@jamesfhIII2 ай бұрын
@@BrandonTalbot I have to disagree with you here. I’ve been wearing AW since 2015 and currently rock the Ultra on my other wrist. I haven’t found the sensor array to be limited in any way. In fact, Apple continues to add new features such as sleep apnea detection. They’ve also been able to take ECG readings for years now, and their heart rate sensor is so accurate it negates the need to wear a chest strap.
@BrandonTalbot2 ай бұрын
@@jamesfhIII it’s limited because of its power draw. It can only take readings once every five minutes during normal activity and around 12 per minute during exercise where whoop takes a reading every millisecond. Don’t get me wrong I love my AWU and I love what it can do but when it comes to sheer amount of data it can’t compete with Whoop.

Well, we got steps now as of couple of days ago, Oct 10, I think they may be doing or taking the cheaper route and start releasing some of these features instead of giving us a brand new band. For me a big issue with the whoop was how inaccurate the wearables were. I like to wear a watch to work so I figured that the whoop boxers would work for me, after a week of wearing them I noticed my stress and heart rate would be 2-3x higher when wearing the boxers than my regular band, messing with my strain and recovery scores. I’m coming up now on my one year and don’t see much of a reason to renew unfortunately.
@BrandonTalbot2 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s not going to be accurate in the boxers for that activity. It wasn’t the sensor it’s the location for what you were using. It’s meant to be on the wrist for everyday activities as it needs the accelerometer. When you put it that close to your center of mass (when not doing something very leg/hip dominant) it will not give you the most accurate readings.
@robinkashar53802 ай бұрын
I love my Whoop. I also wear a Garmin 24/7 and if the Garmin tracked strain all day I’d quit Whoop in a second. That being said, I’m torn because my band needs to be replaced and my renewal comes up this month. I’m not sure I’m ready to spend $ on both those things and then have the 5.0 come out and have the band not be compatible (which is what happened going from 3 to 4) and have to extend my membership again to upgrade…

I don’t think it’s coming… I haven’t seen the question in my inbox yet Perhaps it’s because my subscription ends within 6 months. I’m not sure if Whoop has a patent on the charging of it device but I think if Apple or Garmin were to somehow incorporate a similar charging system where you never had to take the watch off it would be end game for Whoop or at the very least hurt their sales significantly I mean I’d rather loose my watch face for an hour or so than lose an hour or so of data. And let’s face it Garmin and Apple love to make proprietary products that you have to buy to go with devices you already own. I mean it could be like the iPhone you can wirelessly charge it or you can plug it in…

Samsung released the Galaxy Watch Ultra a while ago which is amazing, in my opinion. Tracks the same data as Whoop during sleep (HRV, skin temp, resting HR, etc..) and I am comparing it to my Whoop. I'm pretty stoked about the Galaxy Watch tbh. I still wear my Whoop on my right wrist but don't check on the app very often since I have the Galaxy Watch. My Whoop membership ends in a few monts, as the Galaxy watch is amazing and for my Workouts ultra accurate (running and lifting weights), I don't see myself renewing my Whoop membership. I love the ST on my Whoop for my lifting workout... but wearing and paying the whoop for only this feature. Tough times for whoop right now.

But now I can reduce subscription cost to $30 a year versus $30 a month while owning my device with all the other features.
@maeckes0892 ай бұрын
Still there is one big issue with the Apple Watch: outside workouts it very irregularly measures heartrate. During sleep even only between 5-7 times per night. Whoop measures constantly - thanks to not having a screen. This makes the Apple Watch data despite having the better sensors still less accurate. Also leading to scrapping any native support of HRV measuring as apple knows it records not enough data outside workouts that this would be simply not insightful.
