Simple and to the point. Thank you for sharing this video for a new Sony A6400 user

I've been using: Cine4, CineGamut3, Saturation -10, Black Level +10, Black Gamma Wide and as high as it goes. Enables the use of 200 ISO and has just about as much dynamic range as Slog2! Worth playing around with. Might even try Cine1 now as it has less contrast.

+Charlie Powlett great idea! May have try this :)
@MarcoPeru7 жыл бұрын
Charlie Powlett very interesting man, I'll give it a try too!
@zuzkarory7 жыл бұрын
why use cine 4 at all? just to make a overly contrasty profile less contrasty? doesn't really make sense. yes cine 1 or 2 is way better.
@charlespowlett53347 жыл бұрын
I recall reading/hearing that Cine4 preserves highlights better than Cine1/2, and that Cine1/2 are better for lowlight shooting. Or maybe it was the other way around. Should probably figure it out before my next venue shoot! Haha

I shoot pretty much only in the dark and though I have never shot cine1/2 i do use cine 4 with sloggamut3 and the high powered LEDs never get blown out like they used to now

i find slog2/3 even when graded gives a soft, vintage or retro-ish look. i like cine4 - pro as skin tones are more realistic, colors are modern and i dont have to spend tons of time color grading in post.

Great video. I was playing with my A7s the other day on a large projector and I was surprised at how much more noisy CINE4 and ITU709 were in comparison to CINE1 in low light - all with SGAMUT. Thanks for the demo - it really helped.
@raqeemstudios3 жыл бұрын
how do you know when to set the high iso? i mean do you have any maximum point to make sure you didn’t burn all the highlights?
@HarvVideoAudioStuff3 жыл бұрын
You can use zebras for this, 90% will be good for catching highlights but of course you can set it for whatever you prefer 👍🏻

@mnorton19645 жыл бұрын
Hi Harv, from a fellow Bristolian. This is a great video, the best low-light settings explainer I've seen. I'm trying to replicate what you're doing on my A6300. What does your histogram look like when you film this? Are you pushing the shadows into the middle of the histogram with the ISO? If so, how far? On the A6300, exposure compensation is only available with ISO on Auto so I'm not using it in order to be able to select a specific ISO. If you're using Auto ISO, what range are you setting? Sorry for all the questions but, having nailed this, your help would be much appreciated.

can you use picture profile "pp" and slog2? or only 1 option? tks
@HarvVideoAudioStuff4 жыл бұрын
You should be able to use slog2 as many times as you like 👍🏻
@dominic-ryan2 жыл бұрын
Hey Harv, are you still using SLOG-2 for your low light footage, or have you moved onto one of the newer PP's since this was published?
@HarvVideoAudioStuff2 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed, these days I use slog3 for everything with the a7s3. For low light the higher native iso of 12800 is super clean 👍🏻

why you use s-gamut with PP cine they intended to be used with the cine color space??

Nice and helpful video.Now i Understand how to use cine and s gamut. one that i still confuse about is black setting and details in picure profile s-log or in anykind of cine. What your thought about it ? and one more about noise reduction, if we use s log2, we must overexpose 2+stop in order to minimize noise. what the highest iso value recomended for a7s that still usable using slog2 ? and do you have any recomend software for noise reduction free ? in some situation, even we already use +2stop slog2, we still need a noise reduction, because noise is still pronouce quite high.

Some what interesting. Some questions. 1. Is the banding out of camera?, in grading? Is there Neat video noise reduction applied? DId you notice that with a moving or flickering light sources which changes the noise algorithm in the sony a7sii has issues with flickering sources? Like candles, or rippling sunlight on skin in trees? In some cases it seems quite a prominent issue especially in moody lighting (darker) - just interested if its my camera or maybe I should consider shooting this kind of stuff in raw on my ARRI or pocket magic cam. thanks nice videos - your energy is wonderful!! love it .PS is the ISO 80,000 or 8000 or did you actually change it?

Bro, if you're trying to demonstrate differences in noise, upload in 4k instead of full hd, because the video gets "noise reduction" right away by virture of compression. It always gives me a chuckle when people try to compare raw footage on YT, but this one takes the cake.

Request: Could you make a tutorial that works with HDR scenes? How to expose for a indoor scene with a window to sunny outdoors for example? In post I would use masking to work on a scene like this, but I still find it difficult to expose correctly to avoid noise in the dark parts.

+Espen Sommer Eide nice idea, I'll certainly give this some thought :)

In that case use sLog2, its intention is to maximize the dynamic range. sLog3 might be nicer/easier to work with, but only if you record 10 bits, otherwise you are throwing too much data away.

Video would have been a lot better for comparisons if you would have used a standard light source instead of a candle which flickers differently with every shot due to movement. Just my 2 cents. Still a helpful video non the less.

On your other video, you said to shoot slog profile at native ISO. But here you are, shooting at 40k and 80k ISO. And saying slog2 is your favorite. This got me confused.. make no mistake, I'm not hating. Just confused..

all these words of s-log 3 and shutter speed and more are for to me. How am I suppose to know where to start learning how to us a nice quality camera? I have not bought a camera yet. I would like to understand the language how of professional cameras before I go out and buy one. All I know is I do not want a 4k camera since you doesn't do this auto quality yet. How am suppose to learn learning the language and all the techiques these cameras have (from the beginning? for example you mentioned (s-log 3 and shutter speed) is this the beginning of understand these professional video cameras. After I understand how these cameras work, then I buy a professional camera.

why this over the top desperation for people to take care? :) i find cine 1 and 2 best for low light. particularly cine 2 as the shadows feel raised in a nice way without needing to go so high on the iso and overexpose like with s-log. one thing. why i like your videos on this. to really get into the nitty gritty and most helpful, you should do one that gets into the best combination of both gama and color space i.e. pro, cinema, s-gamut. all of that COMBINED would be very great to examine in very thorough detail. that is the video that would really get you a ton of views and likes to be honest. thanks

I shoot with: Sony a7iii - Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 Daylighy (or highlight environment) setting: - PP7 S-log2 4K (25 fps 1/50) or Full HD (50-100 fps and 1/100-1/200), depending if I want slomo or not Can someone help me in setting the best lowlight profile? I tried with a modified PP2: Black Level -2 Gamma Still Black Gamma -2 Color Mode - Pro 7 Saturation -4 Detail -7 But I’m not so happy of the result, it lost detail and was not the best for moving people at the party Thank you!
