Will also add that my 1400 and 2902 rain gauges never are skewed by the anemometer cups. Never. My 5000 is obviously a separate gauge (have it only 3’ up too which is perfect to minimize inaccuracies caused by wind exposure) and my VP2 ISS is 5.5’ up. Good point to make perhaps one like the Sainlogic would be cutting it close, but my 1400-IP anemometer cups are very close to the rain funnel never had issues Out of the four stations I own, the AW WS-5000 is my favorite by a fair marging, Davis VP2 6153 is second. The 2902 is amazing for the price though, I recommend them to absolutely everyone and I have even gotten old used ones and given them out to neighbors lol. I know of 2902s from 2016-2017 that are still going strong and nearly every part can be replaced individually (like a Davis). I do like the WF Tempest but I don’t care for haptic rain gauges. I also understand why they use AI and local data to “smooth” data out like temperature spikes but that is unrealistic and I would rather just see facts not numbers based on algorithms that use other stations’ data

Ambient Weather WS-2902 can’t be beat for under $250-300 (or Ecowitt equivalent). WS-5000 and the Tempest are the next step up, and Davis VP2 another half-step up lol my 2902, 5000, and 1400IP all track very closely with the VP2 6153 I have. My 1400-IP is 8 years old ($150 in 2015) and still going strong! I love my Davis but I’ll always own an Ambient Weather

“Nowhere near as capable as the Davis”, but truly, all of my AW stations are 98-99% as accurate (actually better RH and rain-related values, as well as MUCH faster reaction time to temperature changes). AW stuff actually comes internet-ready from the box and especially the 2000/5000 come with waaay more modern displays though I am aware Davis finally released something more modern lol. My Davis is online using the $300 WeatherLink Live and CumulusMX to actually get rapid-fire on WU. Have my Davis and two of my AW stations on CWOP. My $150 2902 tracked almost perfect with my VP2 6153 when I had them on the same pole. Even in direct sun despite the Davis having a 24/7 aspiration fan

I know this video is old but I highly suggest giving AW/Ecowitt stuff a try if you haven’t yet. Definitely would take a WS-5000 over a WF Tempest any day of the week. And I would take even a budget 2902 over a Davis Vantage Vue as well, no contest

im considering installing a davis pro II on a sailing yacht; the anemometer will stay attached on a stern post, ten feet above sea level, wired to the rest of the unit, attached five feet above sea level but rotated 90º so the solar unit faces forward not aft, im considering mounting this on a swivel; the station will be installed on the chart table/nav station, inside the cabin (wired) .. wondering if it will it work, any tips??
