Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the channel as well as high proof spirits in general and I've really enjoyed the education and shenanigans that you guys provide. Tangentially, I also really like your choice in music to the point where I actually did a really quick lindy hop demo at my local dance studio to the song Millionaire since it just had that perfect feel to it. Figured I'd pass it along should that interest anyone. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3WlZ6eajbGhgq8

How I got into whiskey. A friend of mine: "You know Lord of the Rings? Laphroaig is the kind of whisky the Elves would've made. Ardbeg is sort of dwarven." Me five years later in a whiskey bar: "Could I get an... Ardbeg?... sip.. ... sip.. ... 'Curses to the Dragon Smaug!'"

My first thought was that elves would drink brandy. My second thought was that elves don't drink, they are all junkies. That is why they are so skinny and don't sleep. But yeah, Ardbeg does seem a little bit dwarvish.

Fun story - I downed a whole bottle of Maker's one night in Texas like 20 years ago. I had a hard morning the next day, but I recovered with backyard brisket for lunch, and then drove 12 hours straight home. Sounds weird, but that was what did it, I really got into it after that. Now I'm going to hipster BTAC auctions and stupid things like that. Oh well, they had some toasted Michters the last time so it was worth it, nobody wanted it!

Redbreast was not only the whiskey that made me fall in love with whiskey, but actually the first whiskey I ever tried. My Whiskey that got me into this amazing world was the Auchentoshan Three Wood. I was on a military TAD trip and it was my first time out of the country to Scotland. On one of my off days, I decided to go check out a local distillery and the closest one was Auchentoshan. I fell in love with the whole process and culture of Whiskey, but the one that I loved most that they made was the Three Wood. It's such a nostalgic trip for me to sit and sip a glass or two of that.

The whiskey that took whiskey from "kind of like" to love for me was Red Breast 121 I'd tried things like Jameson and Bushmills and other entry level sorts of whiskeys before, but Red Breast was such a big step up from those. Laphroaig was my introduction to single malt Scotch, and I've been mostly an Islay drinker ever since. I think it's the unique savory flavor profile.

For around 15 years I've been drinking Wild Turkey and Maker's Mark, and only in the last year have I really started exploring more and more Bourbons. Now, only within the last week, have I taken a break from Bourbon and began my journey into other Whiskeys. Last week I bought Monkey Shoulder and Redbreast 12. I loved both so much, my enthusiasm for this journey exploded, and today I splurged on Ardbeg Uigeadail and Laphroaig 10. That left a dent in my credit card. I'm still developing my personal palate but so far I gravitate to sweet/fruity scotch (Speyside & Highlands) and sweeter more desserty bourbon

I was one of those weird people that do not exist. Started drinking a variety of whisk(e)y and fell in love with the Ardbeg 10 upon first taste. I should have known better because I love the smoky, earthy, spicy, and salty types of notes in foods and drinks. Since then, I have been diving head first into the world of scotch that I did not think I would come to love and appreciate.

I know the exact moment I fell in love. Drinking a flight of whiskies at the Glenfiddich distillery on vacation about six years ago. Up until then I drank whiskey, but never imagined the differences and the fact that you could do tastings like wine. Epiphany, I was hooked.

The whiskey that made me realize I was more of a scotch guy was Balvenie 12. And then when I got a chance to do a whiskey flight in Asheville, NC I tried Red Breast 12 and found I really enjoyed that as well. Working on my Islay with Ardbeg 10 at the moment.

Absolutely agree with all of this! People need greatness and meaning in life! Shakespeare and Miles Davis are great and so are Laphroaig and Lagavulin! Both of these are my favourites!

my whiskey Journey over the last 8 yrs has kinda been a whirlwind. my original with coke whiskies were Angels Envy, Blantons, Gentlemen Jack, Makers Mark, 15yr Noah’s Mill and Jim Bean Devils Cut. Since finding the Tribe... my newly found appreciation and understanding led me to experiment with new categories and I found these to be my breakthroughs: Laphroig Lore/Laguvulin 16(islay), Red Breast 12/Green Spot(Irish), Lot 40(Rye), and Highland Park 18/Macallen Classic Cut(not islay) I still love the bourbons, but coke is a thing of the past.

Laphroaig made me fall in love with scotch, and whisk(e)y in general. I've always liked bold smokey flavors that you find in great bbq, dark beer, and roasted chilis, so it makes sense that a smokey Islay would be my cup of tea. Even now, those bold flavors are why I prefer rye to bourbon. I was just in Scotland a couple weeks ago and picked up some Laphroaig Lore, and it was like coming home, but coming home to a remodeled house.

Mine is definitely Glenfiddich 12! I’m just getting into whiskey and have drank a lot of Jameson and Famous Grouse (both readily available here in the uk and trying to establish if I like Irish or Scotch better) but when I tried Glenfiddich it was just a game changer for me

For me it was the Laphroaig 10, the same for one of my best friends after I poured him a glass. Many people are overwhelmed by the smokyness, but to us the whisky still felt much smoother and much less aggressive than other whiskys, because the sharp ethanol notes from cheaper whiskys weren't present. Makers Mark is also very good, my favourite whisky for old fashioneds.

I got into whiskey October 6th 2018.I bought a bottle of Proper Twelve for Conor McGregor's fight with Khabib Nurmnagomedov.I had a few people coming over my place for the fight.I had gotten the whiskey for us all to drink before the fight.Growing up i only shot bourbon it seems, and with a chaser.Pretty much just to get drunk. When we all drank it before the fight I was expecting harshness like I had experienced prior with the bourbons i would shoot, but it wasnt the same.I was suprised to how easy to drink it was.I had never drank Irish whiskey.I didnt know about different whiskeys. This led my to looking but reviews, finding the whiskey vault, finding the tribe, and trying many of whiskeys.I still have the empty Proper twelve bottle.I have not brought another yet.I will revisit it soon being its been so long and its responsible for sparking my interest in whiskey.

For me the whiskey that turn me into a whiskey aficionado was Glenlivet 12. In 2007, I was in the military stationed in Turkey and my neighbor friend of mine show up to my house with a bottle of Glenlivet 12. Until then I was more into wine and beer but whiskey was "foreign" to me. He mixed my scotch glass with a little of water and it was "love at the first taste". I haven't stop since with my love for whiskey! Jrod.

For me it was Angel's Envy Rye finished in Caribbean rum casks. This one has such complex notes on the nose and is just as satisfying to taste. I can just sit and smell it in the glass all night and be happy. It really challenged what I thought a whiskey could be and made me want to explore other whiskeys.

I read a line in a book: "It’s a single-malt scotch, Lagavulin sixteen-year-old, and will restore the dead to life, if administered within a reasonable amount of time” I bought a bottle and am convinced that this may actually be true. Islay peat FTW.

Hey fellas, new to the channel, just caught this video and loved it. Reminds me at 19 years of age, buying a Laphroaigh 10 on a whim in a late night bar in Liverpool after having worked my own Saturday night bar shift.... and it opening a whole new world to me when I previously didn't really like whiskeys having only tried cheap scotch blends, Jamesons on St Paddy's Day (which I kinda liked) or the run of the mill bourbons like JD or Jim Beam (which I mixed with coke as a teen!). Keep the great work up guys... love yr stuff... I raise a glass of Ardbeg 10 to yall! 🥃

Similarly to what you guys said, Irish whiskey was my intro into the whiskey world. I had bottles of classic Jameson, Jameson Caskmates Stout, Jameson Black Barrel, Teeling, Tullamore DEW XO Rum Cask Finish, and even Redbreast 12, but it was Four Roses Small Batch that really stands out in my memory as the first whiskey that made me realize how much I could love whiskey as an interesting drink and not just something to get a buzz on.

I'm only at the very beginning of my whiskey journey, so for me it's the four roses yellow label. It started like for most of my friends with Jack/Jim/Johnnie + coke, because that's what's widely available and relatively cheap and trying them neat was kinda awful. Then 2 years ago I tried an aperitif that was just four roses, lime and grenadine and it was so pleasant that I ordered it neat later. Liked it enough to buy a whole bottle of my own 😊 A friend of mine who's a lot more into whiskey let me taste test some of his collection and I'm excited to see what's still out there waiting for me to explore 😁
