It's really primitive right? You'd think people in 2020 would be mature enough to say meh it's just a video game. This is the reason I hardly put in any effort into any of my characters that I make for a game, cause honestly getting doxxed just cause my skin is a teensy tiny bit more sun tanned than in real life. And yes there was a black face argument about that one too round about the same time this hairstyle argument was happening. A girl posted what she looked like irl next to her character and her character had a slight sun tan, she was then accused of black facing XD like come on... Who the hell cares where's the maturity. She didn't out right go and make herself darker, as in black dark so no that accusation there was false in my opinion.
@drawnwithlove34994 жыл бұрын
@@chocobossxii9457 what I say to that is... Don't listen to those kinds of controversies! Yes, people are sensitive about this kind of stuff but it's mainly because these are one of the rare times where they get proper representation. Obviously, they're quite protective of it due to past experiences. They want to feel superior for once And yes, that's bad. But it also shouldn't influence the way you want to design characters Want to give curly hair to a white character? Sure! Give some rep to those naturally curly haired white peeps! Want to give blue eyes to a black character to make them more interesting? That's ok! They're a fictional character and it should lean well to their uniqueness! Do those who are oppressed a service, and remember that the sensitive ones are those who cannot take gratitude to what has been given to them. If you know your intentions, stand with it
@chocobossxii94574 жыл бұрын
@@drawnwithlove3499 You make very good points. I'm for representation and respect it and appreciate it. My biggest headache is just like with the hairstyle thing here, you can get roasted for just slightly making your character a bit sun tanned when your skin is pale. I know lots of white folk here in South Africa where I live that are tanned down by the sun, its our weather, its what we look like. If I were to showcase that somewhere not that I really do, but the principle remains the same, I'd get roasted and accused of blackfacing. I know the black and POC folks here in SA don't care about what white people wear or how they style their hair after or if they're tanned, you know silly 1st world problem stuff, they're grateful if you show respect to their culture. They gain appreciation when you speak their native languages, they find it funny when you dress in traditional clothing or try to make their native dishes. The 1st worlders presence online however... Yeah. None of them understand the concept of what is cultural appropriation and what is respecting and appreciating it. Sadly them not understanding what it actually is, is ruining people's livelihoods and businesses. There was a commotion about a white owned business making Vietnamese dumplings in a state in the US and that business got flagged for cultural appropriation even though the woman appreciated and respected it enough to represent the food in the city where little representation is. Our issues as whites is that everything we do is evil. I know there are people who appreciate it, but the majority just want to hang us, and it's not even black people or the PoC community, it's our own white folks. I'd say I'll just make the stuff I like for myself, and keep it off of sites like Twatter and FB and whatnot. It's exactly the twitter community that is so toxic. Just a nuclear bomb waiting to explode. But to cut this rant short. All this stuff makes me a bit depressed. I try to limit my exposure to silly stuff like this but often than not there's just that one video about something so logically irrational that I can't help but start firing away in the comments. I thank you for your advice if you managed to read this far. What you speak is the truth, but still, as a human my emotions can be such a burden at times.

Not racist: - Having a hair style. - Having a hair type. Everyone forgets why a lot of black Americans are so touchy about their hair in the first place. Glad to see it finally touched in the comment section. 😩🙏 The thing is, black people have been excluded for TAKING PART in their OWN hair. Because it's "nappy" or some shit. A lot of us have been conditioned into thinking our natural features and hairstyles are "unsightly" and "unprofessional." Of course animal crossing has nothing to do with white people adapting hairstyles from black people just for clout but still promote systems/standards preventing/hating on black people being their natural-selves. They just wanted to wokeschold 😤. Wokescolding is cringe, absolutely, but damn this could've been turned into an actually insightful conversation about assimulation and appropriation instead of "haha sjw's go REEEEE." :< Even if the ree'ing is kinda funny.

@@artalcoolique3341 You’re absolutely right, every point is made perfectly. There are too many cases of black people suppressing their natural hair because of stigma within schools, the workplace and society in general, and its due to poor education and miscommunication that makes people question the legitimacy and importance of these things. If those woke allies took a moment to realise that cancelling individuals on Twitter over small problems might do more harm than good for the communities and minority groups they’re ‘supporting’, maybe they would start focusing on educating others, raising awareness and incite actual change that would help black lives in the long run. Okay but like I'm pretty sure white people can have black hairstyles sometimes? I found out recently that my own very curly hair is from having one black ancestor a LONG time ago. One. In a sea of white (well there's also some native American in there but it's not visible in me). I'm the palest, whitest possible dude and yet the genetics in my (light brown and reddish) hair texture is still partially determined by a gene usually associated with black people... If that's possible, it's probably a dominant gene (I'm no geneticist so I could be wrong but it would make sense). You can have a definitively white person like myself where every single ancester doesn't have to be white and then some common features of another race shows up? Also, I've seen plenty of black people with "white hairstyles". I really don't care. If it's natural, great. If you straighten your hair, also great, you be you. So long as it's not making fun of black people it's not racist to wear your hair how you want I don't think... Especially in a FICTIONAL video game... This kind of stuff is why (as an artist) I'm scared to design POC characters, sadly my all-white cast seems racist in of itself but I'd rather lack representation than accidentally make something offensive... And I'm pretty sure I'm far from alone there

As a black person, us black people are touchy with our hairstyles because we've been called "dirty" "ghetto" and "unprofessional" for wearing our hairstyles. And when a non black person decides to wear one of our hairstyles and they get praise for wearing it it's a slap to the face for us.

@@lazyphd5626 well in that case I apologize,it is your cultural hair and all but there’s times where you should just ignore those people and worry about other things more important,if our generations get touchy by these subjects then there’s no hope for humanity for the next generation.

@@lazyphd5626 It’s disgusting that people would even say such a thing, and I’m sorry that you have to deal with that. It’s a shame that everyone has to make everything so negative. However, I still don’t think it’s right to call someone racist or criticize them for how they want to style their hair, and that goes for any ethnicity. Especially in a video game

In 2020 I was expecting us all to freely float around in space with our civilisation being spread on different planets and whatnot like in those futuristic movies, not people nagging on the Internet about a hairstyle. These people gate keeping the styles and whatnot are the same people who call us racist for not taking part in their culture and or the stufd they like. So which is it? Multiculturalism or segregation? You can't have both folks you need to choose one.

Me before: please don’t invalidate cultural appropriation on a greater scale- Me after: thank god. Thanks for coming out and being a well adjusted human being, I too agree that it’s a game so it’s not really worth fighting about cultural appropriation of some more grey area hairstyles. But I would say to anyone wanting to use them, maybe research stuff behind the hairstyles and what they mean to black communities. Appreciate culture even if you don’t absolutely have too, it’s a nice thing to appreciate.

To me the issue with this whole situation isn’t the fact that she used the hairstyle at all. It’s that she called them space buns. Because as a black man that wears his hair in an Afro to work and in life. If a non-black person came up to me and said they liked my “curly hair” or my “curls” that would make me look at them sideways because what I’m clearly and proudly wearing is an Afro. Ok I understand that their isn’t a definitive bun style in the game and since she may like the style she can wear them but by calling them “space buns” you take away the meaning of the hairstyle to make black people feel empowered and beautiful. Like when Kim K wore her box braids and called them something else entirely (I forget what she called them) it wasn’t the fact that she was wearing them at all (for some people) it was the fact that she called them something else. so that when people emulate them, the original meaning and cultural representation behind the hair is lost. ANCH isn’t to blame for this but it is a catalyst for bigger issues at bay. And I think another issue is that when this update came out is that. Non-Black people feel so comfortable with wearing black styles and hair and partaking in our culture. But when those non-black people have their own hair styles, and culture and clothes and music. They would rather take what’s ours rather that to stick to what they can wear. I know styles and things change and fashion rotates but lots of people don’t understand that somethings in some cultures are important and we are protective over them. For Black people it may be hair. For Native Americans it may be headdresses or misinformation on practices and culture. For Asian people it may be clothes and history. For Muslim people it may be religion and beliefs and hijabs (for example). Just because we are a growing melting pot doesn’t mean every aspect of every culture is everyone else’s for the taking. Keep some things sacred and i doubt that there would be many issues.

As a person who‘s been experiencing this „white ppl aren‘t allowed to wear this you are a racist monster!“ before it blew up I can confirm that this imo has been blown way out of proportion and twitter leftists to me just seem like optics destroying cringy crybabies with no sense of productive advocacy or rhetoric and that‘s coming from a far left person. I‘ve always been an advocate for accepting all cultures and embracing them as we are all human beings and all share the human experience together. This sort of slippery slope with cultural appropriation and cultural segregation it‘s often misused as is just utterly wrong and unproductive. Yelling at people of the „wrong skin tone“ for engaging with different cultures is highly unproductive and also pretty hypocritical since only few cultures are held to this standard usually. That being mostly Black cultures. So many of these people are foaming at their mouths because of someone who‘s white wearing cultural attire or using cultural furniture to decorate their islands while those same accusers often flaunt their own japanese or asian inspired islands or styles like that‘s suddenly ok because this culture is ok to appropriate aka endulging in hypocrisy. When are we going to stop blaming white people who‘ve done nothing to harm or take away from other minorities and have made an effort to actually support said groups in gaining justice and equality? Because if we continue to hate on this group there will always be a divide and hatred really doesn‘t help. In general I decided to leave twitter and give up on fighting this mob because I‘m not gonna concern myself with immature crybabies who don‘t care about optics and just wanna hate on white people for existing. I myself as a bi person know how it‘s like struggling with being oppressed and I do also have some resentment towards straights and their ignorance yet I‘m not gonna let that control me and I‘m not gonna turn into a straight hating woman child who can‘t do anything but bi*ch all day about straights and how they are the root of all evil because it does nothing to our benefit. Literally nothing. Sure I can vent ofc but I‘m not gonna let out my anger on some unsuspecting animal crossing user because it‘s not healthy for me or fair to them. I know it‘s often discussed how tone policing is also an issue but I do see the point in it regarding optics because if you WILLINGLY engage in debate or internet activism you happen to be guaranteed to meet people you disagree with. However screeching at them like a bratty child is not gonna help you spread your rhetoric and neither does it help you educating others because if you act like an as*hole you‘ll definitely not be listened to anymore by your target. If you wanna educate people online then do so in a more calm and non judgemental work. Sure it‘s exhausting but you CHOSE to do so so put at least a bit of effort into it so it‘s actually useful. Having a temper tantrum online isn‘t the same thing as venting in a safe group online about your struggles. If you wanna do activism and rhetoric your optics and educating people who you wanna bring to your side as well as debating the opposition is your key. However, just policing random people online for the most minor sh*t isn‘t doing any of that. Because once this blows up not only is the left taken less serious again, but we‘re also yet again stereotyped as something we are not. This is the bad optics I‘m talking about. And sure you can now tell me how you don‘t care about tone policing because you have a right to be mad as a marginalized individual I mean sure. You‘re right. But it still won‘t change the fact that this behavior only makes it worse for you, your group and leftists as a whole to do advocacy because no normie wants to step into that lions den if those lions will be this aggressive. There‘s a time where you have to step back and ask yourself: „am I gonna try and do advocacy that does something good? Or am I instead just gonna regress into a cultish immature crybaby on twitter for the sake if woke points and in the great scheme of things accomplish nothing because I‘m really mad?“ Because in the end if you wanna be a political activist, part of activism is actually being productive instead of regressing and damaging the movement.

Didn't realize my frizzy ass curly red hair wasn't allowed to be styled into space buns. Heaven forbid I don't wear my hair naturally rather than damaging it everyday with today's standard white girl hair style. Got it. Thanks Twitter Edit: I don't have enough frizz/ I have way too much length to put my own hair IRL in space buns and call them afro puffs. *also I'm white. I don't claim to be someone of color, I don't feel right calling them afro puffs. Kinda feels a little messed up to wear my hair in frizzy ginger space buns and claim they're afro puffs.* Thanks for listening. I'm not a fan of claiming one thing for any specific race or gender. We are all human and we are all beautiful. I'm so thankful that we have more styles in ACNH for hair and I'm so thankful and honestly really hyped and proud of the beautiful woman who had a MAJOR role in bringing these styles to the fan base.
