What is your belt rank and biggest Jiu-Jitsu struggle right now?

1 stripe white belt. When we spend a bunch of time drilling a technique, and then we roll and one of 2 things happens. Either A) I forget a step in the technique and I can't get it, or B) I'm never in a position to use it anyway.

White Belt. Been training 3x/week on average for 15 months. My biggest struggle is recognizing opportunities and taking them within time. I'm in my mid-30s and have arthritis in my back, and I am rolling against younger and faster guys. I will see an opening, but by the time I realize it and move to respond, the window has closed about half the time. At 10 months in it was 80% of the time. To me it seems like I just need more time on the mats to make recognizing and responding automatic, instead of something I have to think about.

Got my purple in November. Took me 16 years 😂. That was not all training. I took a about 8 years of total time off due to injuries and not understanding how to training properly. finally figured out ways how to train more effectively. need to work on consistency. For me my priority is not about getting a black belt, it’s doing jiu Jitsu 2-5 times a week until I’m dead. I’m 42 and I plan on living a very long time. A black belt would just be a bye product of my goal. Love this break down.

A video that might be interesting is what you expect of each stripe from white to blue. Most videos people do are what it takes to get blue, but not the stripes in between.

I'm a brand new white belt. I'm 38 and my primary reason for starting is to have a competitive, full-speed sport/martial art as a vehicle to get back into shape. My biggest struggle is letting go of perfectionism and being okay with the journey of not being good while I'm learning. I don't have many white belts to compare myself with at my gym, so I have to rely on performing marginally better against experienced training partners each practice. The guys in my gym are encouraging and offer great advice, which helps a lot. My second greatest struggle is that I can only go 2 days a week. My gym thankfully offers T/Th 6-7am practices, which allows me to get back before my wife and kids are in full swing for the day. I'd love to train more to get more practice, but I feel like this schedule is helping me from getting burned out.

Man I trained 3 years from 2009-2012 and got my blue belt within my first year. I swept and cleaned the gym after classes because I didn't have the money to train, but I loved it so much so they worked out a deal with me. Then I joined the military and never got back to it till this year... now i'm 10 years detrained as a blue belt, my body is different, and I just am having a hard time with the motivation since I lost all that time. But i'm back, and i'm ready to train, and i'm not stepping away again.

I have trained in a MMA just but i just went to the grappling and wrestling classes. I´m going to start as a white belt soon. I usually train with the more expierienced guys but i feel bad for my newer training partner as he has to roll with other people because i want to train against better guys 60% of the time. Another struggle switching gyms is in my new gym the newer guys are a bit soft. Every time i get a submission they tap right when i just get in position even tough i haven´t pressured further in to the submission. Do you maybe have any advice on this? Love the video´s!

Just got my brown, and I’ve never felt further away from black belt. My knee is fucked, I have systemic arthritis that gets worse each year, and my neck gets hurt if you look at it funny. I’m only 43, and I’m just a hobbyist at a small school without much talent. At a competitive school, I’d probably be a blue belt. At this point, I just hope I can go to class occasionally and not get hurt.

Do you still enjoy grappling? Would you still have trained Jiu Jitsu if there were no belts at all? Answering yes to both of those questions was liberating for me. Now I just train because I love grappling. I would rather flow roll for 30 minutes than run for 30 minutes 🤷‍♂

White belt training 2 years 3 to 6 times per week constantly. 42 years old. Can tap some of the blue belts of comparable or smaller size. Recently didn't get promoted when others I can beat did(was relieved I didn't) I think because I'm bigger than most people and need to focus more on technique than strength. Not in a rush but frustrating at times.

1 stripe white belt. I'm not super worried about burnout. I am also pretty high up in Taekwondo; was teaching it 20+ hours/week for several years. I'm only taking about 25% of that in BJJ right now.

37 yo 4 stripe white belt I got maybe 3 to 4 years training but spaced out over 15 years. Life and moving afew times. It's an hour drive to train but im there 3 to 4 times a week . Sucks my legs aren't as jui jitsuy as when I was 20. I need to work maintaining back mount and finishing and Guitines and leg lock defense. It's fun cause there's so much to get better at.

Don't go from zero to 100. Find 1 to 3 days a week you can realistic attend classes, set it as an appointment in your calendar, and make it a priority. Once you go to class constantly and it's a habit, then start worrying about techinque's and progress. Don't get wrapped up in everything else.

27 yo white belt been training for around 3 weeks had a lot of success after the first couple of subs i learned, wrestled in high school and college. My biggest struggle right now is trying to get good training while remaining gentle, my takedowns, scrambles, and cardio are much better then majority of the gym i train at. Im training 2 times a day 6 days a week at the moment and i will always pull guard and start on bottom except on competition day which is thursday afternoon. I know that i need to stay humble and focus on technique. My coach wants me to do my first tournament in the blue belt division next week im super exited but also dont wanna just be that spaz lol.

I think If they get rid of stripes less people would be worried about belts because it’s a long way away. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to a colour belt If I’m honest. But I’ll keep practicing and participating until one day I can’t.

I’m a white belt, I’ve been training for 3 months now and I love every minute of rolling. I never get mad for getting my ass kicked on the mat. My struggles? I’d have to say is rolling with spazy newer dudes and huge fat heavy dudes🤷🏻‍♂️ but other than that it’s all very fun for me.
