Great video!! Great way to honor an old boy. I live on a hunting ranch in West Texas and anytime my husband and I find something we want to keep that died out here, we just wire it to our fence posts around the house. Once it’s been picked clean and the West Texas sun has done its job, we boil it once in a similar fashion and pressure wash it. We typically have to do a bit of restoration on the horns but not much. We use mop and glo also! Great trick! They always come out pretty dang white and never a problem with smell or bugs. Great job!

Ryan, this is the first video of watched of yours. I’ve done numerous skulls over the years, ranging from dear elk and antelope. I learned more in 16 minutes, watching your video than I have the past two decades of other crap on the Internet. Appreciate your humble way of explaining what has worked for you and why you’re passionate about it
@jvoss7826 күн бұрын
You’re definitely a pro. One tip I use when cleaning skulls like antelope is I drill a small pin hole before I slip off the horn that way I can line the shell up on the bone exactly the way it came off. When it’s fit back in the exact position I put a small piece of wire back into the hole to hold the horn on the bone. Great job thanks for sharing.

I started getting into taxidermy a while ago, but usually never have to clean things off since I usually buy from cheap sellers but have good skulls and bones. But I’m really into birds and have started learning how to clean off wings to keep the feathers preserved and not worrying abt damaging tendons, and I finished cleaning one not too long ago and I’m able to fold the wing out and what not. This actually taught me some things about cleaning so ty, even if I don’t have all the stuff to do this, and I plan to go hunting for my first time soon so I hope I’ll be able to bring something home from it :)

I have several skulls I crudely have done myself. Personally, after boiling I just set my skulls outside for months and let the sun and elements do the work. Yeah they don’t look snow-white like in the video, and my pig and black bear skulls have a lot of oil showing, but I could care less. They’re smooth, white-ish in color and the skulls look rustic and “desert wild.” To me they look like how one finds them after being exposed to the sun for several years when a wild animal does naturally. I like it.
