Sailing alone from Cuba to Cayman Island was a short overnight sail with good wind and moderate sea state. I decided to stop in Grand Cayman to split the voyage down to Panama.
I was positively surprised by the zero formality fees, but not so impressed by the extremely high costs for everything else.
It was a great treat to meet Zak and Lindsay who gave me an awesome trip around the island, thanks for that, guys.
Enjoy and Ahoy,
Nike & Karl

This is NOT a live documentary! There is a time difference between filming and publishing due to the time it takes to edit and to internet not always being awailable on those little remote palm tree islands :).

I don't understand how 4 people put thumbs down. we humans are strange, I mean, look what we in the us did this week, enough of the negative. I'm sorry I did not make it to Miami on Sunday, I chickened out, couldn't hit the buy button. I so wanted to meet you, and still do. you are getting a lot of great advice here and I'm sure more at home. everybody loves and admires you for you and what you are doing. I have recommended you to several other sailing couples on you tube, for your attitude, perseverance, and knowing when to say you are not ready for something (that crossing to Mexico). maybe Lavagabonde will give you their old (pretty new, actually) as they have been given a million dollar cat that is underconstruction as we speak, I half to insert a little dark humor once in a while. maybe you could get a good deal on sailboat that was, thankfully and happily (thought by many) from sailing miss lone star. again some sad humor.

I'm sure your family miss you too. I'm sure there are some of them who are envious of what you are doing, and others who are very proud to be part of your family because of what you are doing, and even some who think you are totally insane for doing what you do! However, family always means a warm welcome when you return, and knowing that there is someone sending good vibrations your way when the brown stuff hits the fan.

Sorry to hear you're down, Nike. ☹️️ Keep going forward. And by forward, I mean whatever keeps you progressing. Maybe being alone out there is exhausting you? Solo sailors going around the world have the goal of making it all the way around to motivate them. You are, and don't take this the wrong way, a beautiful jellyfish: you're just following the flow & floating around this beautiful area. But like most things, they are best shared with others. Although you're sharing with all of us, it's something about sharing the adventure with someone....in real time. I don't mean to pretend to know your situation. I just speak from my experiences sailing & traveling. Much love & pleasant breezes to you !!

hey Sidney, thank you for your kind words. Being alone out there can sometimes be exhausting or overwhelming. And sometimes it is purly living on the sea that tires me, especially if there are times with many storms at anchor because I worry a lot then...I don't have a motivational problem, though, I think. Like what you said about people being motivated by circumnavigations. But I can see how that is maybe different, that one has the feeling, oh, I gotta keep on going cause this is the goal I set. For me, I pruposly did not set any goal for this journey because I did not want to be doing this out of the wrong reasons (e.g. feeling obliged to do it because I said I was going to do it). That's why I said I wanted to keep it all open in the beginning. But it also makes it maybe harder, because you basically have to take the decision to keep on going on or not each day when you wake up. I do enjoy sailing with others, but I also notice that usually I get to a point where I am longing to have my solitude back :). I guess I enjoy the mix of being able to have both. It feels good to be home (I just arrived at my parents place yesterday) and I will enjoy some time here off the boat and on land with friends and family around and then come back with refilled batteries to tackle new adventures in the Pacific :) Ahoy, Nike & Karl

It's been great watching you. Karl has taken care of you but maybe if sailing alone is your preference you need to come up with a plan to replace Karl with something newer and more reliable(mechanically. Surely you could find someone for those occasions that you prefer some company(or help). I don't sail now but I've always traveled and lived alone so I know how you feel. The obligation of an adventure having to satisfy more than one person is sometimes overwhelming , more so than the daily tasks overwhelming one person. Hopefully you find the balance. It's been a lifelong challenge for me and I suspect it will for you as well. Be safe above all else.

I can't help thinking and have for some time. Your lonely. When you school friend came aboard I was hoping she would stay a while. Another thing is it's a lot of effort sailing with the work needed to keep going. So company and rest. Oh. And eat something. Much love. A big fan.

Hi Earl, at that time I did feel a little exhaudted. Hurricane season was making my time schedule tight and I was on the move a lot. It's Not so much loneliness but more the constant moving and not having stability. I figured out over the years that I need a mixture of traveling / being on the move and some time with certain routines and friends around. And no worries, I Do eat a lot, my body is just very active and the camera makes me look thinner than I am 😜

Hey Nike, you need to reflect upon the face that you have91.1K subscribers out here rooting for you. Just think. for a minute, 91.1K subscribers. Where is that nice guy that you have had aboard and kept in the shadows? He must care a great deal for you to be aboard but almost invisable? Perhaps you should reinvite him back aboard and show him, Ill say it, more respect and public admiration. I'll just bet that your disposition and goals gel up quicklt. I hope this works well for you.

Hope your feeling better. Sorry your thinking of leaving this lifestyle, but I can understand what drives you to think this way. I think for a variety of reasons I'd try to do some experimentation without committing to other lifestyles though. Example of myself I claim to dislike being alone, but the truth of the matter is after being around others for any length of time I so wish I were alone...ain't that a fickle barrel of fish...lol. Consider still living on the boat even if you do decide to come back to civilization...it's cheap and leaves your escape open. Pain in the rear sailboats are a pain until you don't have one...then you really know pain!

yes, totally feeling better, thx. I was just a little tired at that point and I always try to consider different options and try to picture how that would make me feel. In the end, especially with the broken engine, I decided to take a small break and go home, but I do love the solitude and freedom I have through my life with Karl for sure, so I am not ready to give that up, yet :) Ahoy, Nike & Karl

Hey Rick, I hardly ever go back and watch the old videos, just very rarely when there are some comments later on and I want to see the episode again to get a better feeling what they are talking about. But I watch them a 2-3 times in the beginning when they just come out. It helps me to learn for future filming because when you watch the 2d or 3rd time you see more things that you could have done differently / better. So any favorites that are on the re-watching list? Ahoy, Nike & Karl

Now and then I will watch the episode which you spoke about not being sure if you wanted to quit or not and then the following one. Your strength of character and dedication to your dream is inspiring. I hope I don't sound like some sort of weird person, but you are the type of woman any man would be proud to call his partner. You are self sufficient, confident and strong. You show that trust in our fellow man is well placed and that gives hope and joy to all for future generations. I spent 26 years in the military and have seen the best and sadly the worst in mankind. For the rest of my life I hope to be surrounded by people such as you and those you've met on your journey. I ask that you continue your journey but realize that I have no right to ask this. Only you can make the decisions for your life. And in my opinion you are making the perfect ones. As before, my invitation stands. If you are ever in the Galveston, Texas area I will ensure my wife and I will have a spare room for you if needed. And if I could I'd be proud to sail with you!
