Only a moron attempts a cover of a Whitney song. Nobody is going to outsing her. Not on their best day. You either change the arrangement and make it your own or just move on. She never looked like she was straining her voice. It always looked so effortless. Damn Bobby Brown (another hugely talented singer) and getting her hooked on hard drugs that ultimately killed her. What a loss.

@@trips347 Let me know when Sade can sing pop, gospel, rock, jazz, RnB and opera. Don’t ever fool yourself into believing that Ms Whitney E Houston was “common”. Sade had one genre of music. Whitney had damn near every genre. Sade couldn’t belt, Sade had no head voice, Sade had no upper register. Just because you like her, doesn’t make her special or unique. Sade was borderline common, there was nothing special to her voice.

It’s so beautiful, powerful, meaningful, and effortless. It took place right around the Persian Gulf War, so it had an immense impact on our nation and citizens. The way Whitney delivered that song was so amazingly effortless and magnificent. It’s the best Star Spangled Banner ever. Nobody can top that. Whitney Houston is one of the most talented music artists. Her songs and vocals sound so beautiful, especially when she is not overdoing it. Her 80’s album had many of her best hits. All anyone had to do is listen to Whitney's voice...and they fell in love. I fell hard for Whitney back when she released her first album...and fell again when she made 'The Bodyguard' with Kevin Costner. She just had "IT"...talent, charisma, and that ethereal something that sets the real artists that will have immortality across generations from mere stars. When she sang, she sang to you and no one else. This and "Run To You" were both nominated for the Best Song Oscar...and neither won. Which was a travesty...and Whitney should have been nominated for Best Actress, but wasn't. The funny thing...'The Bodyguard' was a script written in the 1970s and it was meant to be a vehicle for Diana Ross. Kevin Costner moved heaven and earth for Whitney to play Rachel Marron...and she was so good. See the movie if you haven't.

What can you really say about Whitney? She was a once in a generation voice! "I wanna dance with somebody" and "I'm your baby tonight" are two of my favorites!
