Dolly Parton wrote one of the greatest love songs of all time. She was so humble when Whitney took it to another level. Dolly said, people can call it Whitney's sing providing I still get the cheques ha

@Roy Oh shut it up, _idiotic_ little boy. Elvis didn't write "Hound Dog", let alone _sing_ it first , but when he sings it, people call it _his_ song. People _don't_ reference a song's songwriter _instead of_ it's _actual_ singer, ignorant troll. So get it through your _thick skull_ that you have no _plausible deniability_ for knowingly coming to a Whitney video & being a d!ck trying to give Dolly Parton _sole credit_ for _Whitney's Houston's solo work_ on _Whitney's_ most famous power ballad, that she sang in her own style, with her unique & extraordinary vocal talent, that _she_ spent time promoting, & used to sell colossal amount of _her own_ albums with. Frreaking idiot. You're not slick. You were being an azz & you knew it. It's why someone else said you were had to be mad . You're either a troll or a BIGOT. How about you stop trying to give Dolly Parton credit for _all_ the work Whitney Houston _ put into creating _this_ song, and I won't feel compelled to tell your troll azz to gtfo & go find a Dolly Parton song instead of _trolling_ Whitney's song. 🙄

A little history lesson: Clive Davis, Arista Records chief (Whitney’s longtime label) did not want the beginning to be a cappella, but Whitney and the producers persevered and kept it. It’s one of the longest number ones of Whitney’s career and among all artists combined.

That's only half the story. David Foster the producer played the first draft of the song to Clive Davis and both loved it, over the weekend Foster added more production and Davis hated it. Both guys had a major argument over the phone. As a result, Clive released the draft version without Foster's consent. that is the version we all know. Clive actually was very important

Whitney was an angelic voice for a reason. Her resounding talent was unmistakable. There are very few singers who can take a song that isn't theirs originally and then make it their own to a point where people forget the original all together. Whitney's voice made this song what it is. Nothing else but her being able to emote from another place and resonate with people, emotionally.

Her version is the top selling single by a female artist in music history. In addition, the reaction to the song and soundtrack was so massive that during Christmas week of 1992 or thereabouts, the album was the very first in music history to sell ONE MILLION copies in a week. Those were the days when people actually had to go to a record store to buy an album or single. When one considers her approximately 200 million record sales, the remarkable fact is that a majority of those sales came from FOUR albums released from her debut in 1985 to The Bodyguard in 1992. This short period was roughly the time frame when her voice was at its peak/prime. If Whitney had stayed happy and healthy for another ten to twenty years, her commercial success would have been absolutely astronomical. She was simply one of a kind, the gold standard for a female pop singer and one of the greatest voices in music history irregardless of musical genre.

If you haven't heard Dolly's version please listen to that just because it is beautiful also. But, Whitney took it over the top and it was a bigger hit than Dollys. This is a cover. It's originally a country song by Dolly Parton. Dolly wrote it as a goodbye letter to Porter Wagoner. He had his own show, The Porter Wagoner Show and Dolly was a part of it. Dolly wanted to quit the show to focus on her music. She wrote the song, performed it on the show in 1973 then recorded it for her 1974 album "Jolene". Dolly re-recorded it in 1982 for a movie with Burt Reynolds. In 1975, Linda Ronstadt covered it on her album "Prisoner in disguise" but her version is missing the bridge. Whitney's co-star of "The Bodyguard" Kevin Costner suggested Whitney record the song and played Linda's version for her because he had a copy of "Prisoner in Disguise" in his trailer. When Dolly Found out Whitney was introduced to song via Linda Ronstadt's version, she sent them her version to listen to to make sure they kept the bridge in. Elvis Presley almost recorded it until he hit Dolly with a contract demanding 50% of the publishing. Patti LaBelle was supposed to record an R&B Version a year before Whitney did. But at that time, she was on a short lived sitcom called "out all night" and didn't have the time.

If you would like some different sides of Whitney, I would suggest: My Love is Your Love (music video/r&b reggae vibe! Featuring her daughter in the very beginning) Until You Come Back/My Love is Your Love (AMA medley with Wyclef and Babyface! Whitney was about to break out in rap 😂) Fine (music video)-more of a 2000s hip hop vibe produced by legendary Q-Tip and Saddiq Could I Have This Kiss Forever (music video with Enrique Iglesias) I’m Your Baby Tonight (music video-pays homage to Diana Ross, Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich) I’m Your Baby Tonight/My Name is Not Susan/Who Do You Love (either AMA or Billboard medley, during the height of New Jack swing era where Whitney gets into a vocal battle with a...SYNTHESIZER!!)

Got to enjoy the moment bro. It’s ok to get lost in the music. Let the song breathe. With that said, love your page and reactions
