Lyrics:
How will I know if he really loves me?
I say a prayer with every heartbeat
I fall in love whenever we meet
I'm asking you what you know about these things
How will I know if he's thinking of me?
I try to phone, but I'm too shy (Can't speak)
Falling in love is so bittersweet
This love is strong, why do I feel weak?

I don't understand how people just didn't like her music cause it wasn't black enough, we should've been grateful as the black community to have such an icon while she was living!
@DorianPaige00
@DorianPaige00 3 жыл бұрын
There were plenty of other icons that should have gotten more airtime who had albums out around this time: Cat Miller, Miki Howard, Me'lisa Morgan, Stephanie Mills, Millie Scott, Phyllis Hyman, Cheryl Lynn, Patrice Rushen, Evelyn King, Regina Belle, Karyn White, Cherrelle, Liz Hogue, Eleanor Grant, Rena Scott, Patti Austin, Joyce Kennedy, etc. all had material out around this time. Quite frankly I'd rather listen to any of them than Whitney. It seems the ole' cabbage gets boiled down and we lose a part of history in an attempt to rewrite it. Both here voice and her songs are very overrated and always were.

@@triplexhd3910 She might be the Global, international Queen of pop but she isn't nowhere near as soulful as those names I rattled in my prior post. What is disgusting is that her, MJ, and Prince are all you hear on Black radio today. Those three were nowhere near as big back then and all of their hits suffered listener burnout and were never played as recurrents. Terrible rewrite of history!

@@DorianPaige00 why does she have to be more “soulful”? Does it make her any less of representative of the African American community? I don’t get it...Whitney had the voice of an angel, none of those people you listed have even close to the level of Whitney’s vocals. You’re trying to make it out as if Whitney was some white washed pop star when that is completely untrue, it’s ridiculous.

Agreed. I actually like this song (and video) the most of hers, even though "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" is more popular. This one has more of a distinctly 80s sound to it, though the lyrics were similar to 60s pop R&B style (quite a few 80s songs were late 50s to 60s influenced or straight up covers of songs from then). The latter was more polished and kind of maxed out, which became the norm for pop music from the 90s onward.

@@mikejefferson1494 No, if You have polite singer and he is full of humility, he will never brag about his career or talent. You could ask M. Jackson or F. Mercury if they are the best male vocalists and I'd bet mine and my family lifes that nor M.J, nor Mercury would admit it but rather point someone else. Case with singer is just like the case with Your care: You can't say which one is "the best", since if You want to drive fast You'll need Ferrari, a "sportcoupe", to drive trough swamps and such You'll need a Jeep and to take all Your family You'd need sedan or minivan etc. Whitney had really powerful voice, she was universal singer, same with Madonna, but then You have vocalists like Tina Turner and Bonnie Tyler with probably the most beautiful and powerful rock voices, then You have Marriah Carey with her soft, perfect for slower songs voice etc. I'm not saying Huston can't sing or she is not great singer, she is but You can mention other who were better than she was at e.g ballads or pop songs, rock songs etc. I'd place her in my top 5 the best female vocalists with Madonna, Turner, Tyler and Riordan - and what's funny all of them could do any song and sound perfect.

In 1985 Whitney Houston released one of the greatest pieces of art in human history. The album contained this song, was nominated to Album of the Year and it is simply called "Whitney Houston". The greatest Love of All, is such a timeless classic, a song that breaks all boundaries, since it's a song that reaches to everyone, and can be felt by everybody. A song about not finding love in others, but finding love in ourselves.

I'm an 80s baby. Whitney was one of the pop princesses of the 80s. "How Will I Know" was one of my favorites. The song and the music video. I had the 45 seven inch vinyl single. I used to think the lyrics were "I'm asking you 'cause you know about bee stings." Only when I got older did I realize that lyric was "these things". And here I thought Whitney was singing about the dangers of anaphylaxis.

Whitney Houston is my favorite pop music singer. I was privileged to see her perform the two times she was at Milwaukee's annual Summerfest. She closed the 1987 festival and opened it in 1991. When the Bodyguard was released, I was living and working in Beloit, Wis. I made sure I was going to be at the first screening at the cinema in the now- demolished Machesney Park Mall north of Rockford. It's so sad she made the bad choice to destroy her golden voice and life with drugs. Even worse is the bad role model she became for her daughter Bobbie Christina. Fortunately her music and movies live on. RIP Nippy.

never ever will there be another Whitney Houston god doesn't make that type of voice and blessing twice. she was a miracle to all of us and some don't even realize just how special she really was. I’m so grateful I was alive to witness such greatness
