There's a popular, fairly progressive Christian meme that has made the rounds online. It pretends to refute a "colonizer Jesus" and to support a "historical Jesus." But it turns out to just be another piece of poorly thought out propaganda. Proving once again that lots of people care very little about understanding Jesus and care very much about claiming that Jesus is supportive of their agenda.
You all said that I should walk through this popular progressive meme and unpack it. We aren't going to shoot for talking points or picking sides here, unless the "side" is Jesus' side. This will be a thoughtful analysis of each point in this popular meme.

Sorry for the sound issues. I think I’ll have everything dialed in for the most part by Friday. It’s just growing pains as I work to improve the overall audio so people listening on different devices can have a good experience. I realize it was clipping a bit today after I raised the volume. That should be better next time as well.

It never mattered what Jesus' skin tone was until the American Democrat party decided it did a long time ago when they wanted to insist he was European white. But ... I like to remind the ignorant bigots of my day who think Jesus was Subsaharan black that on the lines of latitude where Israel is, that's a white skin tone ... all around world following those lines. You go to Iraq next door, Lebanon, the Gaza strip, all those places the Bible references, go take a trip, they're all white. Well, they're a mix. They go from white to tan. In relation to the USA, you're looking at the US-Mexican border because those are Israel's lines of latitude. From native America, we can guesstimate that if they were outside all of the time, then they were probably more tan, although southern European white Rome was all over Israel at the time, Israel had recently-for-skintone come out of captivity to mostly white Iraqi Babylon, and Israel was always an advanced modern society for the current world, which means they intermarried with all their white neighbors. But again, it never mattered until the American Democrat party decided it mattered way back when. They still think it matters, but the skintone of their bigot brainwashed puppets has shifted. Same animal, different demographic. In 100 years, assuming we still exist, it'll probably have shifted again because division is the bread and butter of the Democrat party. They have never stopped being what they are and will never stop being what they are.

MORE LIKE 66 BOOKS 😂. I don't understand the logic of Atheists and mythicists as it doesn't make sense comparing the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth to the Christ of Christianity in The Scriptures like they're any different from each other. AMEN brother Mike Winger. I really appreciate what he does in his work in Christian Apologetics so thanks for uploading this video as this channel does great Christ centered and Scripturally accurate content for the furtherance of The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ 🙏❤️. This has nothing and everything to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a fellow Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't. I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict. Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers. Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of but not macro or micro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

You hit the nail on the head when you said "They just want to hijack Jesus for their side. I just want to understand the real Jesus because he's my Lord. He's not my tool for promoting my agenda." What I have, sadly, seen quite often, is people who claim to believe in "Jesus" but they really believe not in Jesus, but in *their* "Jesus," who believes and says what *they* want him to. A "Jesus" who makes them comfortable. If God's word, if Jesus' word, never makes you uncomfortable, then you aren't hearing what He's saying.

It doesn't matter what Jesus looks like. He gave his life for ours. He paid a debt we could NEVER pay. It will be feeling the full impact of his sacrifice. It will be that feeling that you get when you are HOME. Safe, loved beyond love, peace, joy, and gratitude!

Except that it does matter when you are understanding the context of stories. For example, the story of the good Samaritan is highly subversive in its context because Jesus is a Jew speaking to Jews who (at the time) *hated* Samaritans. Without thinking about who he was we miss the punch of the story. This goes beyond specific examples though and matters for the bigger picture as well. Jesus belonged to a conquered and oppressed people. He wasn't a Roman, the world super-power. This matters because if he were Roman and declared Lord then people would just see him as another Caesar. However, when a Jew (and a crucified one at that!) Is declared Lord, it's a scandal to the Jews and Folly to the gentiles. Lastly, consider our context, are we more like Romans (yes, America = super power) or more like the Jews (no... Unless you are part of a minority in America). This difference colors how we see the gospel. Passover is a story of liberation of oppressed people, and how you see Christ our passover lamb differs based on whether you need liberation from oppressors or not.

@@fishgibblets979 You're wrong. It doesn't matter at all. If you knew about what Jesus said then you would know that He was NOT concerned with oppression! In fact, when His diciples tried to get Him to conquer Rome He rebuked them! He told them that His kingdom is not of this world. He then proceeded to tell them to pay their taxes to their oppressors! Jesus NEVER talked about race unless is was to show that it does not matter! How someone sees the "passover lamb" is irrelevant and whether someone is "oppressed" or not is also irrelevant. Christ came for one purpose, to save sinners from their sin. Paul later tells us that in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek. Meaning that race has no bearing on salvation. Christ did NOT come to save people from oppression, only their sins. Understanding context has NOTHING to with one's oppressed status. It only has to do with understanding what Jesus meant by what He said to the crowd at the time. To try and somehow link that to race in America is ridiculous.

@@JamesRichardWiley Brother, no matter what your spiritual belief is, its undeniable that Jesus Christ was a real man that actually died on the cross and His body was missing from His tomb 3 days later. There are no other rational explanations other than the fact that the Gospels are real eyewitness accounts and Jesus Christ is the Son of God who rose from the dead. He lived a sinless life and healed countless people. He taught us the most valuable lessons in human history. He came here to be the perfect once and for all sacrifice to atone for human iniquity for all those that believe in Him. He extends this free gift and free mercy out of His love for all of us. John 3:15-21 “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” We have all broken God’s laws and fallen short of His glory. God is a perfect judge who will judge us righteously and fairly. The wages of sin is death: eternal death. We earned our wages rightly by our lifetime of iniquities. If He were to judge all of us, we would all come up short. Thats why Jesus came to grant us mercy. Jesus Christ took on all of our sin on the cross and suffered the punishment that we deserve. We broke the law and He served our sentence. He rose on the third day triumphant over sin and death forever. He justifies us and demonstrates His promise through His resurrection. He promises all of us who believe in Him everlasting life, not because we earned it or deserve it, but because He is good and He wants us to turn from our evil and cling to Him for His grace. In order to truly believe in Him and be saved, we have to look at our sin in God’s light and recognize how serious it is. We must repent and trust in Jesus Christ as our only hope and only salvation. I will pray for you brother. I love you.

Clearly "colonizer" Jesus is a stand-in for white people in general. They've been indoctrinated that whites\Americans\Christians are the source of all the world's ills, so they instinctively latch on to anything they see as "other" even without any understanding of the underlying principles. This is why they hold so many contradictory beliefs, e.g. pro lgbtbbq but also pro islam, traditional gender roles are oppressive but a child exhibiting cross gender preferences is a reason to transition them. The fact that they say Jesus wasn't white as if it's some big slam dunk just reveals their own bigotry.

The atonement through sacrifice theory is a prominent one in Christian culture, but it definitely isn't and can't be the *only* true theory on the purpose of Jesus' time on earth, and here's why: Jesus spent 3 years in ministry teaching the masses, which would be pointless if Jesus' plan was to die on the cross as atonement for the sins of the world. The bible makes it clear that Jesus wanted to bring the inverted kingdom of God down to earth, so he taught to love your enemies and that the last should be first. Thinking that Jesus *just* came to atone for our sins sterilizes him of his teachings, which I would argue are the most important part of his time on earth.

I grew up seeing the blue-eyed Jesus and the black Jesus both. Back then, in a more civilized time in many ways, it was understood that different groups of people often depicted Jesus as one of them because he died to save them, too. The modern, olive Jesus is probably closer to actual history, but doesn't all these different kinds of people getting to depict him as 'just like them" come closer to what he was about?

Yea I think it makes sense to depict him through the lense of whatever culture is envisioning him as. So while He is often depicted as the White Renaissance Jesus. In African or Asian or Hispanic cultures he'd be depicted as such. Which I think is a beautiful sentiment. He wasnt just the King of the Whites or Black or Asians or Hispanics he is King over the Whole Earth and he died for the Sins of all humanity.

Thank you Mike, I've been praying for this. I've recently been confronted with a "Jesus hung out with sinners" type of people and I informed them that they are called to turn from their sin. "But you can always repent" one said... But how many times can you repent? How long can you continue to sin and expect God to forgive? True repentance comes with change, change that happens when we are born again in Christ. I've serious grappled with whether I've been wrong to confront them. These same people told me they don't listen to scripture, only the words of Christ. The scripture I shared were the words of Christ. They also began to tell me about their interpretation of God through their intimate relationships with him. Progressive Jesus is not my Jesus, my Jesus gave me words to follow so I don't have to leave it up to my interpretation. Praise Him!

I find it interesting that those who bring up Jesus not being white act like it's a major "gotcha" that's really supposed to upset us. Of course he wasn't white. The paintings of Him as white were probably done by people who have been gone for years. It's like the people who act like they're gleefully destroying our faith by telling us that Jesus may not have been born on December 25.

To think women back then cared about anything more than today is what is unscientific. All prior history in those regions clearly depicts all men of influence as good looking. Zeus and Thor could also be shampoos models and the stories on them are from 1000 years prior. Would we know of them if they had dad bods? Look at all those Italian sculptures. Does anyone know who the fat guy on the turtle is? Look at every modern election in America since women could vote, the better-looking guy has won every time. I bet JFK is still the most recognizable. The psychology on what women will pick is well understood. Even bringing people back to life wouldn't impress women if Jesus weren't good-looking. No women would care if Jesus was the son of God unless he was good-looking. All kinds of people were performing magic in other regions and no one cared about those that did that stuff because there were clearly no extremely good-looking Warlocks or Shamans running around. And since the Romans were in Israel 60 years before he was born, Jesus was likely half to 3/4 white. As someone that is half Asian, except for the lack of cowboy hats, I can't tell people from that region apart from anyone in Texas. They are white now and it had to have started as soon as the Romans arrived. That's only how it worked every other time when they showed up somewhere. God knows this basic psychology about people. And if you think about it, why would God make his son homely? Are people saying God had no ability to decide how Jesus would look? Does that mean Jesus could've been born a female? So, God could predetermine sex but not looks? Aren't many people believing such a thing really no different than them hoping Jesus is the same color? I'm seeing a lot of people arguing God had no control over certain aspects of biology and that is blasphemous...

AMEN brother Mike Winger. I really appreciate what you does in working in Christian Apologetics so thanks for uploading this video as your channel does great Christ centered and Scripturally accurate content for the furtherance of The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ 🙏❤️.

And if a woman, having divorced her husband, should marry another, she commits adultery”, and "whoever shall marry her who has been divorced commits adultery", and clearly warns that "anyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Mike - Love you bro and I thank you for letting the Holy Spirit work through you. I have to correct you a bit here. The reason you can go to Caribbean countries, South American countries, African countries, Australasian countries and even North American countries and find white Jesus clearly is not because of ignorance of the world around them or simply making it look like the people there. Clearly when caucasian people arrived in those areas they knew the population there wasn't white. Those pictures were used as a tool during some very painful periods to assert a hierarchy and so yes it was racist. This is just history. You can go to many of these countries and find the pictures/statues still there among a mass of people that do not look like them and you can date when those pictures/statues were installed. Colonisation cannot be ignored here, there was a method and unfortunately imagery was used. I agree often the imagery of Jesus is just the reflection of the people and there are places where it shows this but think logically - that just cannot be the case everywhere (see above areas)! It also doesn't tie up timewise. I agree people can often look to racism as an answer when it isn't but in this case unfortunately it very much is.

@@jesussaves6625 Not at all. If the genuine reason was to provide converts by belief and not intimidation then you would make the image as close to the people you are looking to convert. I also disagree that they believed the image was "right" because they were aware of where Jesus was born - at best it was just a relatable thing as Pastor Mike said but notice, that same 'relatable' reason would apply when spreading among a native (or enslaved) population. It makes far more sense that it was kept as white images for control in terms of hierarchy, especially when it wasn't exactly the whole scriptures in full that was taught - otherwise they'd have to admit their colonising/slavery conquests were unbiblical. But then more and more and especially these days, more, I saw this become the meme it is now, acting like it was the colour of Jesus skin that was the main thing. So long as the colour of His skin or His ethnicity is never the main thing, I find all portrayals of Him around the world beautiful. My husband and I were gifted a gorgeous story artwork with a Tibetan looking Jesus. Yesterday I was at Truro cathedral in the UK and found it beautiful to see how people there in history had depicted the Old and New Testament saints, even if their aesthetic had that Anglicised flowing hair. Having bought into the progressive diversity ideas as a teenager, I am so glad to have the freedom God offers us to appreciate some of the true diversity God loves.

7:31 I had some thoughts on this… It’s totally fine for Jesus to be Korean, in a Korean community, or to have darker skin in a country with those kinds of people in it. The reason we have issues with ‘white Jesus” is because the United States of America is not a ‘White-People Country’, it’s an ‘Everyone Country’. Our Jesus needs represent Everyone. Don’t get me wrong, it’s OK to have a white Jesus in your interpretation. The problem is using this version of Jesus to enforce a class or race division, as was rightly pointed out in the video. I doubt the KKK would have used crosses in their symbolism if Jesus was had olive skin in their interpretation. The ‘White Jesus’ _can_ be used to represent ‘Everyone’ in this vacuum, in the absence of these divisions. This should be proof enough that it’s not implicitly racist on its own - people are racist, not Jesus. That being said, I _would_ like to see more darker-skinned Jesus in our artwork, to help bring Everyone into the fold.

@@-.George. Yes, absolutely true! Jesus is physically real and alive and reigning beside the Father in Heaven. My comment is about what is in the video. The artist of this meme has labeled a fake version of Jesus "historical Jesus" when they really mean reinterpreting Jesus in a way that is less offensive to modern secular culture.

Thank you so very much...bc I was following an unconditional love ministry....they began to say things like the killed by church and state and justice was only through restoration saying the devil may one day be saved...I hadnt yet found your clear teaching and it all was being taught behind closed doors at a conference and not in the main public teachings. it confused me for a while. i lost friends ...but even in confusion ....I knew that teaching was taking people away from the cross ..thank you for such clarity...

honestly both Jesus' are mostly wrong from that meme, however if I had to choose between the two, the colonizer Jesus is actually better than the sjw Jesus, and I say that as a minority from a very poor background since at least that colonizer Jesus at least retains one of the most significant aspects about the actual Jesus, that he died for everyone's sins and that anyone can be saved if they accept him (rather than him dying from the non-existent "church" [perhaps they meant the synagogue of satan] and never resurrecting from the dead and all of our faiths being in vain).

What I find disturbing is all the new age churches out there and church leaders who are not teaching the the word. They will take a part of a scripture and twist it and turn it to fit their needs. Like all the prosperity preachers on TBN, Hillsong also the music they sing these days is not worshiping God.

Exodus 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Leviticus 26:1 “You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I Am the Lord your God. I came away from this more certain of my Salvation. Just going thru hard time. I thought this was Biblically accurate. (Just a note, your scripture of man/woman belonging to each exclusively has been logged over me that a woman must always give herself to her husband on demand. Honest. Over decades, in a few churches, all Protestant of one form or another. One, if we have Jesus as our Savior and are married, why would we withhold? Sure rough day here n there as we aren't perfect. Why have I heard this in Church often? I was told by 2 men, I must submit to husband as he is head. No problem. You must love me as Jesus loved the church and He laid down His life for her. Riles the power hungry w/o Jesus.) Thank you, Mike for all your hard work. The broadcast was fine. Your a perfectionist, we benefit. I love that YT didn't get a commercial. I think it hard to keep a train of thought. I think YT wants us schizophrenic. I found with purchase of a JBL 3x4" BT, my sound so much better than phone. Best $35 ever spent. Sale. 🕊Shalom

Picture Jesus as a Mediterranean man that looks like hes been walking around preaching and working for 20 years because that’s where he was from and what he did. Best you could deduce is he had long, dark hair and beard, probably a bit of a rough appearance from working in the sun all day for most of his life.

Thank you for this Mike. I'm starting to realize that politically conservative views doesn't completely align with Gods word or with who Jesus was. I used to think that conservatives were the ones that aligned most with my christian values and beliefs, but now I'm starting to realize that this isn't necessarily true, and that I probably should work my way back to how the bible would view the woke issues of today
@chrisbrass8930
@chrisbrass8930 6 ай бұрын
I've seen some variant of this argument since the 1980s, and you're correct, both conservative Christians and progressive Christians push this. For me personally, I've just kind of come to grips with the idea that if he knocked on my door and I see him standing on the other side if I have the Holy Spirit in me, and the Bible tells me that that the spirit fills those who follow and believe in him, then the Holy Spirit will leap for joy upon seeing him. And in a quasi related note, I'm becoming a firm follower of the "don't have an image" philosophy, because it can be a problem. In fact the only "religious" imagine in my home is an angel painted by a Christian friend who painted it while going through a divorce and suicidal at the time. As an individual who was also suicidal for a period of time, I fell in love with the painting because I could feel the pain that she was going through. I had an opportunity to get it, so I did and it's held a central position in my living room since, I don't view it as worshiping an angel or heavenly being, its a painting from someone who was going through hell and the painting depicted her grief in a way that I could connect with so I wanted it so much that she gave it to me, probably mostly to shut me up but possibly because she knew how much I appreciated this particular work.
