Would you go with boring your factory cylinders out to a 107 or just opt for a drop on 110 kit?

Considering that I'm semi retired and on limited income, I would go with my cylinders being bored. I love your awesome and informative videos. I've owned a Honda Valkyrie and a Yamaha V-Max and love the rush of torque and horsepower still. Almost 68 and still ROCKIN. B-) I own a 09 Dyna Superglide at the moment and love it.

Looking at a 103 Streetglide. I have a set of Woods 222 to go in it upon purchase. If the bike has a few miles on it I may consider doing this as a part of a freshen up when the cams go in. What compression will still work with these cams? Will probably leave the heads stock as I'm not chasing that last 5-10hp.

As far as H-D goes, more can definately be done with less. The XR 750 was one of the baddest engines H-D ever made. It was basically a destroked Sportster. Keeping the same bore but shortening the stroke from 3.811 inches to 3.00 inches allowed for a higher Rev limit and boost hp output to 85-100 hp. I have always thought that one of H-D's biggest mistakes was not making a street version of this bike. The second was when they quit making it.

The XR750 was an absolute legend, if you bought the motor from Harley it came as a box of parts since there were so many possibilities with putting one together.

If I had the money I would definitely go the Fuel Moto with the woods cams cuz I like Woods cams and I like Fuel Moto. Like I said if I had the money because once you're into the cam chest and everything you might as well do the cam plate, tensioners and oil pump still once you're in there needs to be done I think so anyways! I agree with you a long way Gixxer, but I have never been a fan of high compression pistons on a Harley. High compression will put an extra pressure on your crank bearings, rod bushings and stress your starter to break. I prefer a max cam lift with stock springs and ported heads instead, even with a “non-easy start” set up the oem starter has no problems activating the stock springs. Ouh I love horsepower but I also love a reliable and steady bike which doesn’t sound like it’s going through torture every time it starts. Many of my friends has paid fortunes for starters and starter gears. Crazy HP bikes comes at a cost….it’s like riding the famous Tiger: It looks good but it will get you in the end !
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 3 жыл бұрын
Higher compression is pretty harsh, compression releases are an absolute must to get started. It's a better idea to go with a build crank for high compression increases, but a cam with head porting usually gets the job done pretty well.

High Quality stuff at great prices, they offer a 96 high compression piston there spec piston made by wisco for your 88 motor. match that with Harleys 204 (high rev cam) with Harleys screaming eagle roller rockers with the higher ratio arm. Drop your motor sprocket a few teeth in the primary ( Harley had a kit once that came with the sprocket and chain called the “hole shot kit”) it upped the rpms but made the tire rip. Get head work and compression relief. And Primos 84 tooth ring gear with the screaming eagle clutch spring and plates or a high end clutch. Get screaming eagle ignition for high compression. Topped off with a 2 into 1 ! That set up is extremely responsive quick and hard hitting. It make the bike extremely quick and pulls hard that’s my set up for my 02 Nightrain. I will be putting a new screaming Eagle 6 speed with the same ratios as stock but getting that 6th gear. For it just being a 96 it’s Extremely fast. 0-100 mph Bike all day long. I let my fellow Harley mechanics “Friends” test it out and they All say WOW what’s in that thing after riding it knowing it’s just a 88 year bike most say it one of the fastest bikes they have ever been on! Well just got the the Harley shop to start wrenching what a life to live there is Never a dull moment with our customers! Lake city choppers we were once a Harley Dealer but Harley put the license fee crazy high on purpose 2 million dollars plus mandated a new facility! In my opinion Harley should be been thinking of there customers and at least made us a authorized service center. now for the thousands and thousands of bike need to go 2 hours away just for service and those Harley Dealerships are booked solid. We still work on Harleys but have a hard time getting oem parts. It’s a shame Harley pissed a lot of folks off! It’s a sad story of how many small dealerships they closed look into it! In my opinion if Harley couldn’t supply the bikes, everyone of those Dealerships should have been given the “just” authorized service center option!

@@GixxerFoo changed the slipons to the thunderheader 2-1 just that pushed me up to 121tq/101hp. Really thinking about going up to 107 now, since I already have higher compression and valves with the woods TW-400 I don’t know if I should just send the cylinder out to hammer and just get them bored

🤔What about the throttle body and injectors🧐
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 2 жыл бұрын
The stock throttle body and injectors will handle a 107 build, you'd have to get a lot bigger for those to become a factor.

Boring the cylinders is a lot cheaper than a kit with new cylinders and you don't have the heat issues of the 110.

TC can easily and cheaply make good power compared to evo imho.
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 2 жыл бұрын
Both of those motors have their good and bad points to them, but you can make either engine solid. Evo takes a bit more as the power goes up.

@@GixxerFoo true the other point is if you aren’t doing the work yourself the cost of big bore and labor might as well just dump in a 111. 🤷‍♂️

Even stock I would run 91, with a cam it's going to be imperative to run 91 or better.

My budddies 2015 103 road glide makes 115hp and 123tq with screaming eagle race tuner, v&h x pipe, intake and drago cams (forgot what mufflers he is running). S&S has 110 kit for $2,800 includes: cylinders, pistons, cams, quicky push rods, oil pump, cam plate and a few other odds and ends I’m forgetting. Start talking for $2,000 I’d rather go the s&s 110 route for an extra $800 and have everything new aside from the crank

S&S is the way to go with that cam chest upgrade, replacing the oil pump and cam plate is something Harley should include with their kit. But the cams with the S&S kit are way better than the SE cams.

The 106 kit isn't bad but for the price difference the 107 with added compression is a much better deal.

Does all this work with the stock throttle body?
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 3 жыл бұрын
It will run really well with the stock throttle body, going larger is negligable as to the power gains. It's often not enough return on the investment for what the throttle bodies cost. Now if you're going to a 124 or something a throttle body is worth the investment.
