Death Battle always pick their match ups based on how similar the two characters are (in terms of backstory, powers, etc.) They have no idea how close or one sided the fight will be until they start doing the analysis. They did a Crash vs Spyro episode, and apparently went into it thinking it would be a wash. They were surprised how even the two characters actually were.

That’s actually really cool. Cuz it eliminates bias. Only issue would be that not knowing how close the fight will be does create problems. Fights that are very one sided (like this one) can be not so fun. Esp when it gets brutal.

When I first watched this when it premiered, I had known almost instantly that Mitsuru would win. It was like taking a green belt in MA (Weiss) and pitting them against a 7th degree black belt. (Mitsuru). She was dead as soon as they said "Next time on Death Battle" in the last episode before this. I saw Weiss and was like "Yay!" then saw Mitsuru and was like "Welp she's dead." The game that team RWBY is in is called Blaze Blue Tag Team Battle. You can even put Weiss and Mitsuru against each other in that game. Now all that is left is Blake.

The game is BlazBlue (Z is silent) Cross Tag Battle. It's a 2D fighting game that puts characters from a bunch of anime into one game (as well as characters from the BlazBlue video game series). Ruby and Weiss come in the base game, but the DLC includes Blake, Yang, and Neo. Edit: Actually, RWBY are the only anime characters to be in the game. Some other characters have appeared in anime, but they were all spinoffs based on the games. Most of the series that crossover in the game are also fighting games, much like BlazBlue itself is.

I'm definitely going to have to go rewatch the Tifa vs Yang reaction after this cause I can't remember it (bad memory in general) xD This is definitely like the Tifa vs Yang one in being favs of mine from top-tier media I hold highly (RWBY and Persona 3, which I still own P3: Fes for ps2 cause love that game). There's actually some crossover vibes from the two series, especially in the "starting out light and going dark" territory; being able to summon demons including fallen foes and mythological figures (which is actually how I learned about quite a few of them); and also losing a character along the way. Though Persona's handling of female characters is a bit of a mixed bag. Especially since imo Mitsuru should've been bi and gotten with a particular other female character in P3 but that's a whole other thing xD So far the track record holds of me lowkey shipping the fighting characters when it comes to RWBY clashes at least xD First Tifa x Yang, now Weiss x Mitsuru xD Really glad that they chose to not be gory with Weiss's loss, cause I wouldn't want to see that. I don't know if you've played P3, but definitely suggest popping up the OP "Burn my Dread" cause its a bop imho

RWBY is mostly town level. Personas can blow up and create entire dimensions. Personas are literally your inner self made real. The stats of the Persona are yours too. That means with or without it, Mitsuru had the power to take out Weiss.

If it makes you feel better, like they ignored proper analytics when it comes to the amount of aura a person actually has with yang vs tifa, in here they ignored that sp, spirit points which is what mitsuru use comes from your mental state. The more you use it the more tired you are the more mentally exhausted you are. Though going by what level you usually are when beating the game she would of used anywhere from a 1/4 to a 1/3 of her sp where weiss spent all BUT we have no idea how much sp a break actually depletes on a persona user. As its never explored lore wise only as a game mechanic.

They also ignored that Mitsuru's Spirit Drain ability can restore SP mid fight and Marin Karin which has the ability to make your summons fight against you as well as being capable of spamming lots of healing powers. She's considered amongst the most overtuned and versatile characters in the series, only rivaling Makoto Niijima (who I'm certain will have her own episode), Yu Narukami (the P4 main protagonist), and Joker from P5.

@@yoder6162 What? Makoto Niijima isn't anything special, in game she's weak as fuck with her spell tiers and healing ramping up late. Ann annihiates her in damage, Morgana well outpaces her healing and both Ryuji and Yusuke are far more effective physical damage dealers. She's a jack of all trades, so she's not really good at anything in particular. P3 Protagonist Makoto Yuki is far stronger than both Yu and Joker. Ignoring P1&2, he is by far the strongest persona user in the series. It's questionable of whether Weiss' time powers would have any effect on Mitsuru at all. The dark hour is a time that exists due to time manipulation, same with the Abyss of Time. She probably can't be frozen in time like that.

Also, Makoto is in a lot of people's final teams by the end of both vanilla and royal and even the Musou game and has been cited to be and she has good healing spells for herself and her crew, her element has hardly a large amount of counters to them, actual good defense mixed with speed to dodge super reliably, her mana is amongst one of the highest of the Phantom Thieves, and she has skills that can make foes miss important attacks. I get you're a Makoto Niijima hater, I am too, but she's popular for a reason.

@@yoder6162 People use her because ultimately morgana isn't needed either. Late game she has the same healing and morgana's crit isnt useable on bosses. P5 isn't exactly a tough game, you can get away with not even having a healer at all. My team ended up being Ryuji Ann and Haru (gun build) because Takamedic All's cover what healing you need, so the extra damage dealer speeds up fights (also means you can heal on anyones turn). Most people aren't comfortable running without a dedicated healer though so its understandable for her to see use in general. What lore states she's any more powerful than anyone else in the team other than Joker or Akechi? I went off of gameplay stats because what else is there to use?

If she was weak, no one would use her. Just know what you said about her is a hot take. Overrated, absolutely. A weakling? 🤣🤣🤣She's still a good unit in the game, vanilla/royal/strikers/star night, and if you want to get into Persona power scaling, where you realize people are beating up entities capable of controling all of an entire element and altering the universe by winking and being able to cause the destruction of several dimensions ran by demonic creatures through sheer willpower alone, be my guest, just keep me out of it. That's a rabbit hole you don't want.
