This is such a good collaboration between two KZbin cooking legends. I have seen wasabi plants for sale, years ago in the garden section of a hardware store in Edmonton, Alberta. Having lived 3 years in Japan - eating real wasabi with sushi/sashimi is way different than eating bastardized wasabi/horseradish or fake wasabi sold as green dye horseradish. And I eat a large amount of wasabi with each piece.

His cuts are so practiced and consistent in portion size that it is somehow more pleasing to watch. Additionally I noticed Chef Terada applied wasabi and ate the salmon in a way where the wasabi wasn't on the top when he ate it so it wasn't against the roof of his mouth by sinuses as I've found to be the best way to avoid tears and the kick in the face that can be strong wasabi up the nose. If wasabi blows you away, don't have it on top as it goes in your mouth. Great vid, I think I learned something about breaking down the salmon and Guga is a great host.

A big difference between the powder and the "gel" is the vinegar that they add... the vinegar activates different components of the white horseradish that prepared "wasabi" is known for in most restaurant forms.

I've never had the pleasure of getting to try real wasabi... only the horse-radish dyed green that they call wasabi at the restaurants... The tube is the best. I make a roll I call where there's smoke there's fire. It's nori outside with avocado, cucumber, and and spring onion inside. Outside smoked salmon with a slice of jalapeno. The tube wusabi and I use for dipping a sauce of soy sauce red pepper flakes and a hit of sesame oil. You heat the sauce slightly and then cool it. Absolutely fire baby

I love the wasabi kick compare to chilli. The wasabi kicks you in your face for 20-30 seconds, then it disappears. When you try the real wasabi, it’s a whole different story and I agree, it’s just delicious
