Vanguards are one of the most accurate, smooth action guns under $700. Beautiful guns too!
@Hill_Billy_Without_A_Hill3 жыл бұрын
Yup, especially when you got some rifles, in price categories they don't belong in. I tell people, if they are shopping for Ruger Americans(not that they are bad), that if the price is similar to the Vanguard or Howa, then get those instead. In normal times, really the Ruger A should be under $400. Used to see them $280 range here and there. Who knows what normal will be in future though. They way high now.
@simonar113 жыл бұрын
@@Hill_Billy_Without_A_Hill agreed. I bought my son a Ruger American. 243 compact and its a tac driver. Serves its purpose as its light and we don't have to worry about scratches and wear as much as an expensive gun.. However, the stock, trigger is decent, finishes on the bolt, barrel etc.. and action smoothness is where I see the difference quality/price. Both will get the job done. One is just a better quality rifle and will be reflected in price as you noted.

Bergaras are more accurate yet at that price point. Weatherby tends to use thinner barrel profiles, which heat up fast and start throwing shots. But they’re good for hunting and saving a little weight.

Mine appears to be identical to yours other than caliber and scope. Mine is in 25/06, I don't remember the brand of 3X9 Scope that was on it when I bought it. And I'm too lazy to go up to the gun room and dig it out to find out. This rifle filled 3 holes on my wish list. I've wanted a Weatherby rifle, since I saw one hanging on the wall behind the bank manager's desk in the bank in Elsinore Kalifornia when I was in the 2nd grade, I'm 72 now. I never had a 25/06 or a Howa built rifle. So like I said 3 holes on the list. First time I took it to the range I fired one shot just to clear any lube or residue from the bore then fired 3 shots that I could cover with a nickel at 100 yards. Stopped right there and went on shooting just for fun with an AR and an SKS. Love that Vanguard.

If Weatherby thought the Vanguard was a mistake, they have had FIFTY years to stop. But, even in 1975 we heard that rumor so decided to make a new one used by testing it at the range. It performed every bit as well as the 700 BDL, finishes were maybe a bit nicer. My opinion is the Vanguard is as advertised and not "junk".

The Vanguard is a mix between the Weatherby Mk V and the Howa 1500. Keep in mind the Howa's grandad was the Sako Finnbear, which Howa did a copy of up until the late 70s called the Mountain Bear and which the 1500 shares a lot of features from, such as a nice big barrel lug. So a nice combination between the Weatherby MkV and a Sako, not to be sneezed at.

Folks who had shot/owned both generations of Vanguard preferred the Series 2, hands-down. I own 2 weatherby vanguard rifles. One in 270 and one is 308. They are both sub MOA rifles. For the money these rifles cannot be beat IMO. I deliberately selected a very common brand of ammo in the event of a road trip and required ammo. I picked Rem Core Lokt ammo. If you need a bolt action hunting rifle on a budget consider the Weatherby Vanguard. My 270 win weatherby is my go to rifle. Never fails me.

I have never been able to use a center point scope on a center fire rifle. Because the scope was all over the place.

I bought a used Weatherby Vanguard years ago. It's the black plastic stock, or whatever it's made of. It's a 30-06 and has digested a lot of handloaded ammo and brought home a lot of meat both deer and elk. I've certainly got nothing bad to say about it and can give it much admiration.

Don't listen to the Weatherby haters brother. I love mine !!! Its a .270 also. Simmons 44mag and Atec are great low end scopes. Had good luck with both, under a $100 bucks on eBay. Great video dude !!!👍👍👍

Beautiful rifle! And 270 win is a helluva caliber. I have 2 vanguards, with timney triggers, some of the most accurate rifles I’ve ever shot! 👍

I own a weatherby vanguard 270 and it is my go-to rifle for hog hunting. I have killed many many hogs with this rifle. The last one at well over 200 yds which is pretty good for an old fart.

Almost all rifles looked like that (glossy wood and bluing) when I was a kid. Nostalgic, cool rifle.

Beautiful rifle! I had the chance to shoot one a while back. The barreled action was so close to my Howa 1500. Both sweet shooting rifles! Good grouping also!

I got a Weatherby Vanguard in 30-06. Just like yours, but not laquerd finish. I love that rifle.

The vanguard's were garunteed to shoot 3/4 inch groups out of the box , I have the synthetic stocked one in 270, it shoots winchester xp ammo into 1/2 3 shot groups. You're stock is beautiful and the blueing is fantastic . Thx for sharing Wtw

I have a synthetic stock vanguard circa 1988 that’s lights out. Bluing isn’t great and has rubbed off in a few places but use it in Pacific Northwest Rains every year and not a spec of rust. That slick bolt gobbles up cartridges like a hungry hungry hippo. I remember when A-Bolts caught popularity… couldn’t believe people paid more than $100 for that sticky action. $300 is a steal for any Vanguard, especially walnut stock. Hope you upgrade that scope to something in the $300-$500 range. Thanks for the vid.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard 300 Mag with an excellent scope. Has a 26" barrel. Get excellent groups up to 1000 yards. IMO the better scopes are worth the money!

I have 2: 7-08 and 223 in a beautiful wood stock. I love the Monte Carlo stocks. Almost bought a CZ lux in 223 but scoping issues stopped me mid purchase. (Got the cz 527 in a x39 carbine instead.)

I bought a 300 weatherby vanguard from Wal-Mart 20 years ago for $383. One if not the nicest rifle I ever owned. Extremely accurate. My brother in law also bought one in 7mm rem mag. He loved his as well. Just my two cents.......
