This will sell at least 1M in the first year, but it’s really a publicly sold dev kit. It’s a precursor for the everyday glasses/visors with new battery chemistry for super fast charging. This had to be released now to get the apps started and general public awareness.

This seems so "Un-Apple".
@TamasKiss-yk4st Жыл бұрын
This will not sell in 1M, since Apple only manufacturing 100.000 pieces, and yes mostly for developers, to let them make their apps ready for the later devices. This is why they are announced on the developers conference, developers can request a device for their app from the next month. So basically only the rest of the remain devices will be on sale in 2024 for the public.

Spot on. VR has one mass market use only, Gaming period. AR on the other side can be an everyday product but it has to be light looks fashionable and allow open field of view. Kinda like the Xreal Air grasses. Vision Pro and any other apple product that looks similar will only be used within the professional space.

Agreed. Simply put, the hardware we have available today simply isn't up to the task of creating a holo-deck like experience. The battery also needs an upgrade as this current headset gets less than 2 hours of life.

Couple of things to note: 1. This thing was announced at the developer conference for a reason. This first version is primarily with developers in mind to build up the Vision OS ecosystem.... from that perspective $3500 is just an investment and an incredible opportunity for AR/VR app creators. 2. The price will come down faster then people think and assuming this thing will most likely have mobile network connectivity (5g) I'd be willing to bet the mobile networks will offer the same type of payment plans it does for iphones, ipads, etc. that will make it appealing for consumers. Most people finance their devices now anyway so if it drops to $2500 within a year and with the expanded app offering that develops in that time it will absolutely become a mainstream device imo
@nadeemshaikh7863 Жыл бұрын
Which device with a $2500 price tag has gone mainstream?
@vtalfie Жыл бұрын
I can see the non pro version coming in around $2999 but I would bet the nominal price for both don’t go down much if at all. That’s just how apple has historically worked. After the huge initial stock price of the iPhone the $ has only gone up

*Excellent* scepticism on this stuff. I remember google glass and segways. Do we imagine very many people wearing these things except in private? Are people supposed to go out and do stuff with this thing? He mentions 'sequestering' technology which is a new term for me but very well chosen. And when I personally think of wearing this thing I would be embarrassed because it would make me so 'different' in such a visible, ostentatious, way, like wearing a bikini to the supermarket or some big moose hat to a nice restaurant, People love their iPhones. Do people love their apple watches, I don't know but imagine less..Thanks for putting this out. Also, how much appetite is there to continually learn new tech? I know the young have a real susceptibility and enthusiasm for learning settings and menus and connections and formats and cetera... But as the marginal change in what the new tech offers falls I wonder if our appetite to spend the time to learn to use the stuff also falls? I ask because I don't want to learn any of it even as I use most of it, the products expect more of me than I want to give to them.

I’ve been saying it a lot since they announced this and even before. This product and Apple glass will be two different cousin devices. Neither will replace your iPhone. The two things I see a lot of tech people obsessed with is something you wear all the time and an iPhone replacement. What they showed off will never be just a pair of glasses. Apple glass will basically be google glass as a pair of normal glasses that show you basic info and directions. That’s it. It will not replace your phone, tablet, computer, nothing! As a matter of fact, it may use your phone to offload major task. The AVP will be the at home spacial computer, that offers that immersive experience. We will hear about aliens are real before we see all that tech in a pair of glasses and not tied to a computer!

I predicted it’s failure on day one. Watching the launch video was almost comical, who’s gonna wanna sit in the office poking and pinching at invisible spreadsheets floating in the air? Ridiculous.
@johnsmith-vy7vo Жыл бұрын
That all depends upon how you measure failure. If you think Apple needs to sell a zillion Vision Pro headsets in order for it to be judged a 'success', then by that very narrow measure, the headset will likely 'fail'. However, I doubt very much that Apple expects, or more importantly, intends for this device to sell in the same mass consumer quantities typical of iphones and ipads. This is a $Trillion dollar company that dominates in a market built on predicting the future (of technology). They don't need a 1st gen product to generate a few $billion of sales for it to 'succeed'. The Vision Pro is really a Trojan Horse of sorts. It not only ushers in technologies that will power cheaper more refined future implementations of the headset. But it also delivers an unparalleled user experience, so compelling, that this will likely completely redefine industry and consumer perceptions/expectations of what personal wearable computing should look like in the future. They are re-engineering social perceptions of what we think of as 'desirable technology'. And they intend for all that aspirational consumerism to be synonymously linked to the Apple brand. The 'real' selling will begin in earnest some years further down the road. But right now we are already buying into the 'vision'. And from the buzz around WWDC and the world's media, it doesn't look like they are anywhere near 'failing'.
@MacTX Жыл бұрын
I thought the prototype Vision Pro that was demonstrated to the press last week was more polished than that first iPhone at release. That first iPhone was rough, I wasn't too impressed. I haven't tried Vision Pro myself but the technology on offer as well as the first impressions from people who have tried it, makes me excited. From the people who have tried it, most were in awe and at a lost for words on that experience. Magical was used more than a few times to describe the experience. These are people who could afford any of the VR/AR gear and some have even used most if not all of them. If they're that blown away by it, imagine what regular folks will think from the experience. The only hurdle Apple has is getting people to try this, once they do, it'll be something to desire, to lust after. Good or bad.

Considering the techonolgy inside it, not that much. This is a 4K capable display not 1080p like the others have. This has built in spatial audio instead of simple stereo (so built-in 7.1 sound system), and also their GPU is capable for the same performance like an RTX 3060, which none of the competitors can reach with integrated GPU. So if you need a good laptop with dedicated GPU and a 7.1 sound system too for the other headsets, that raise the price for them too, and also harder to mobilize them, all of this built-in here, so this is a standalone device where you are capable to watch the Avatar 3D movie in 4K with 7.1 sound system without any other device requirements.

There are several startups solving good use cases with crypto but the meme and hype driven nature has forced more terrible projects to come to light. Personally a lot of the industry needs to focus on use cases for crypto. Problem with all the XR and metaverse talk is that there aren't as much use cases to justify a huge spend.
