So the theatrical cut gave the impression Snyder was trying to glorify an out of control Batman where as the UE version, rightfully shows Bruce’s fault; while still remaining sympathetic. WB again (which is the movie business) places money over narrative, but refuses to take any responsibility for they’re actions

Problems with BvS for me is it was too soon in the franchise for that movie to come out and it was 2 movies crushed into 1. They should have made a solo Batman movie and MoS 2 before BvS then BvS should have been 2 movies part 1 the Batman and Superman stuff and part 2 the Doomsday and Wonder Woman stuff. It would allow a lot more time for everything to breath and for Bruce and Clark to form a bond.

Everyone misunderstands the "Martha" scene. Batman did not let up because their moms had "the same name" The familiarity of the name is simply what gave him pause. The reason he let up is that he realized that even though SM was about to die all he cared about was his mother. It humanized SM and BM realized he was wrong. It's really not that difficult to figure out. All the mocking of the scene just shows how stupid and simple-minded most people are

I recall leaving the theater with a bittersweet taste. It had a lot of things I liked but felt really rough on editing and some things didn't quite make sense. Enter ultimate edition which is now (in my book of course) one of the best CBMs ever made. One can only imagine what would happen if the wise (sic) executives of WB, allowed UE version to hit theaters!

I thought the original release was only alright but had too many types of stories going on. I also didn’t like having a young Superman fight an old experienced Batman. The Ultimate Edition made me actually love the movie a lot more and appreciate it.

The DCEU failed when the studio abandoned it. Had they stayed the course they would have been fine. BvS is a good film, even in the theatrical version. The first 6 films in the DCEU made $4.9 billion. The first 6 MCU films made $3.8 billion and the MCU was fine. WB panicked. Aquaman made $1.1 billion AFTER the Justice League debacle. People were still interested. Even Shazam was good and made a little money. It was the move towards BOP and such that killed the DCEU, not JL, and certainly not BvS.

This movie is an incredible point of view. In Man of Stell as well as in BvS, Superman saves people in some scenes (not that much, I've to admit, yet, he saves people). Let's count the scenes : - the military man falling from the helicopter ; - the girl trapped in the building blaze ; - the big cargo trapped within iceberg ; - the astronauts saved from an explosion on a launchpad ; - the family trapped on a house rooftop during floods. As I said above, it's a question of perspective : Zack Snyder storytelling choices was not to put the emphasis on Superman saving cats in trees. That was his point with Man of Steel. Yet, he managed to include scenes with Superman saving people. Snyder's perspective was indeed to show us how Clark Kent is trying to become The Kryptonian (not even Superman - at least in what Snyder showed us in Man of Steel). Yet, because some people (yes, SOME, not that much) didn't see Superman saved cats in trees they went nuts and assume Snyder's Superman is too dark, or even nihilist. It's quite weird in addition since BvS storyline for instance gets inspiration from The Dark Knight comics. Zack didn't create this iteration of Superman out of the blue. I'm open to discussion.

I remember watching it in theaters and being disappointed. It felt rushed and unfinished. A few years later i watch it on HBO max and i loved it. I didn’t realize it was the “ultimate edition”. I didn’t know what was different. All i knew was that I liked it. If WB would stop having these “ultimate editions” or “snyder cuts” they could be doing so much better. Release what the director wants to release!

I'm sick of super hero movies, but BvS was a beath of fresh air, a lot different than what we were used to watch, a lot different to Marvel movies in particular. Darker, serious, tensed, intriguing, somewhat unpredictable. I liked the theathrical version, I didn't mind that they didn't explain everything, there's a a bit of a mistery in that, as for the Ultimate edition I loved it. I believe that there was an unfair threatment coming from the critics and Marvel fans towards this movie, I don't know why, whether it was a simply kiddo argument between BvS and CA CW or whether it was an anti-campaign against BvS I don't know, but some of the people I went to the cinema with already formed their mind because of several scenes like the Martha scene, which they clearly didn't understand completely, but they prefer to bash it just for the sake of it. Other people didn't understand some parts and in such cases you know that people often don't like what they don't understand. Others didn't like it because it was not funny and they expected a Marvel movie with jokes and funny moments. I knew what to expect and I was not disappointed, it was great. I own it on Bluray and still watch it every now and then and it amazes me how good this movie is despite being 7-8y old already. It's not exactly a masterpiece but it's not far from that either.

When the fanboys first heard that Ben Affleck would play Batman they went crazy saying he would ruin the character. After the movie was relased suddenly nobody was complaining about Affleck because he was the dark brooding Farnk Miller Batman we alway wanted. The Ultimate edition cut did exactly what this video said, it filled in the holes and fleshed out the plot with vital details

BvS is a masterpiece. I’ve loved it since it first came out. Love the extended cut even more. I didn’t understand the hate and backlash. Ok maybe lex luthor wasn’t the greatest casting, but overall it was so much better than most MCU films. That’s a fact. Now that the film has simmered down, everyone is praising it. Just like most phenomenal films, like fight club for example, were not loved right away. Now, they’re classics.

I thought the theatrical cut was a barely comprehensible mess (albeit with still good action scenes) while the Ultimate Edition fleshed out all the plot beats and really made it a great movie. I only became a fan of BvS after that version released. Jeremy Jahns put it best in his review of the Ultimate Edition. While Terminator 2's theatrical cut and director's cut both work, as do LOTR, BvS just couldn't work with half an hour of runtime shaved off its story. Could say that the vision was too ambitious for its own good, but nevertheless the 3 hour actual cut is a genuinely great movie. Definitely see a lot of parallels to Watchmen, though with a more reconstructive bent.

The studio wanted to show the movie more so they cut 30 minutes that's why it doesn't make sense for the theatrical film, an example would be when in the second trailer you see Doomsday and people complain that it showed too much but Zack Snyder said there was more to come and in the ultimate edition you get a glimpse of Steppenwolf

This is why in my opinion zack snyder is a very good film maker. But it's the medling of studios that F up most of his works. The first time i watched this flic. Was the extended edition, and i thought it was a hell of a film. It goes to show for example in the courtroom bombing scene, in the short one Kal just cowers out and flees, but in the extended one, he goes out of his way to help everyone, tries to save survivors and is visibly hurt and shaken by it. In my mind BvS is a masterpiece. Studios just need to stop screwing their people over. You hire a film artist, Then let them do their F-ing job. Just stop restricting them, wrecking their works and reputations in the process...

I think many people were too quick to bash this film and rather than trying to get an understanding about it, they instead joined the band wagon on hating. I also think that it’s because they were expecting it to be like a Marvel film with quips and light hearted jokes, but realistically, it’s not supposed to be. The uniqueness of BvS is honestly why I love it so much and it deserves more credit it deserves than what people are willing to give. The Ultimate Edition is undoubtedly a masterpiece and I’m glad some people are praising it.

I still don’t like it primarily because of it being a rushed attempt to introduce the DCEU and set up justice league at the expense of a great foundation story that was being developed for Superman. These heroes needed their own films to further develop their characters to a point where fans are invested in them.

When people say the ultimate cut is better because it’s Snyder’s true vision I call bullshit on. I’m not defending the studio that is WB nor I’m defending Snyder. I think that there is evidence of studios meddling with filmmakers visions that end up doing quite well in the box office and has appeal from both critics and fans. The Lord of the ring all three of them are at least almost and over 4 hours long in the extended cut and the theatrical cut on those films even work and were well received. James Cameron’s Avatar had a theatrical cut that was well received at the time and the extended cut was better received as well. It’s because they’re well told stories. The extended cut in BVS only fixes the pacing issues from the theatrical cut it doesn’t change the story in any way, it’s still Snyder’s work and vision for that story.

I recenty watched the Dark Knight followed by BvS. The things that makes it so divisive is its story and the way its told. Its written in a round about way, orbiting rhe core of the plot instead of just landing on it, creating a dull, sometimes confusing, affair. The fact that it even needed an extended cut tells more about its flaws than anything else.

I think the problem with this Movie was the concept of Batman having a chance in hell against Superman. Doesn't matter how good a movie it is this concept made it ridiculous, especially to older Superman fans who are fully aware of his capabilities. Let's face it if Superman had beef with Batman he could see his every movement, hear his every word, rendering Batman's every plan useless. Superman can literally turn back the clock. The best thing about this movie is Batman's slow powerful calculated fighting style, which I was happy to see incorporated into the Patterson version of The Batman.

All previous commenters are either huge Snyder fans or huge DC fans. As just a fan of comic book movies, I'm not impressed. I enjoyed MoS, I enjoyed the Snyder Cut. I wanted a JL2 and possibly 3. Still, BvS Ultimate or no, was a messy and stupid movie. The things that made it bad were not corrected. Even if it could be fixed, it would need more than 30+ minutes runtime.
