After spending 2 years as a bodyguard, I can confirm this. I learned after being around celebrities is that they are human beings at the end of the day. Most want to be treated like everyone else and will respect you for being nice and not acknowledging their fame. I personally only ever wanted to be rich, but not famous. I would disappear after making my billions. I would hate the attention of fame.

I'm an actor, director and musician and I think this video just changed my life. I've been struggling with my goals and ambitions, coming closer towards them but feeling less good about the perks than I always imagined it would be like while still feeling bad about not being as successful as I aimed to be. This made me think about the way I could pursue my career without needing the great success and attention, but just enjoying the process and projects as they come. This took a lot of pressure off me and made me realize how naive I was in regards to how I imagined the life of celebrities. I thank you deeply for creating and sharing this video.

Politics-wise, there is a high chance that celebrities are being paid by political parties to spread political messages. Otherwise, it makes no sense for celebrities to alienate a huge portion of their fans if they are not rewarded for doing so. It seems to work very well in getting their fans are used to be apolitical to become political because of celebrity influence.

Kate Winslet said in an interview how she was just 20 turned 21 during the filming of Titanic. From being able to just buy a newspaper and milk at the grocer. In an instant, she couldn't do that anymore. She says how her private life instantly vanished at that time. However, she does say she doesn't regret it as acting truly was her passion and she knew what she was signing up for but it was still a painful experience to have that sudden change in her lifestyle and she says at times it almost felt offensive at what lengths the paparazzi would do just to get to her and get a reaction.

@@deleted01 That's the thing, they're well known but aren't loved. Deep inside they know fans don't "love" them, not really anyway. The attention and sense of validation is fun and exciting at first but the novelty of it wears off overtime.

As a current limousine driver, I can confirm every Celebrity I meet wants to be treated like a genuine human being. I have made many personal clients just by pretending not to know who they are. Even their own crews are infested with fans with skills that they need for business. Most sports celebrities I meet are stuck at the age that they became famous, maturity wise. They blow money on chicks with kids they simp for like an 18 would. It quite a culture shock to be so close to their lives.

I fly for a major airline and we have plenty of celebrities in our first class and I always just act like I don't know who they are and treat them like any other Joe Schmo. I genuinely believe they prefer that over someone gawking at them and asking to take a picture with them. To this day I haven't taken a picture with one single celebrity I've had on board and Ive met hundreds of them. I also don't actually give a s*** about any of them so that helps me to not fangirl over them lol.

The thing about success, is that it gets really lonely very fast when you reach it. Even in the corporate world, or other industries. Getting up to a certain level can feel so alone. You have to remember that not everyone gets there. And when you're there, it's a whole different world that only a very few people can relate to. So it becomes challenging to find people you can even converse with at the same level. Unfortunately, that's how the world works. And it's not anyone's fault. When you're placed at a pedestal, people perceive you differently, people relate to you differently, and if you want to keep staying there, you need to act a certain expectation that is different from those who are now looking up to you as a hero, as an aspiration, as an inspiration.

Every famous person I met looked tired and annoying when I'd even look at them. There's times I didn't even approach a famous person because I didn't want to burden them. There's no benefit in me needing a selfie, video or anything. It won't make a difference in my life. What would make a difference is if I built myself up to a point where I was invited to meet them, interview them or do something with them. That's the only time I care to ever meet a celebrity.

Society tells you that music and arts in general aren't "real jobs." And then it arbitrarily gives millions of dollars to a hyper concentrated, unrepresentative portion of artists whose work is often almost entirely ghostwritten. How about we start valuing our local artists more instead? No one needs or "deserves" (whatever that means) to be making millions. Artists, like any other workers, just need to feel valued by society and earn enough to live a decent life.

I don’t think many people would deny that many celebrities are miserable and many more are not happy. The difference between celebrities and most others is they have a certain amount of choice about it. If an actor or musician is depressed they can stop whatever they are doing and go do something about it, whereas most common people just have to live depressed due to responsibility and lack of choice.

Even non-celebrities have lost a lot of enjoyment and privacy. Why? Because it's impossible to go to a small party or dinner with friends without being photographed & ending up immediately on FB or other social media with no control over where those photos reside. Guests come to your house and take photos of your bookshelves, furniture, etc...then send that around the world. The world of quiet intimacy with friends is gone.

If I had to walk/drive/commute somewhere to do something and a dozen goobers with Canons just materialize to take pictures of me doing anything, I’d get depressed and insular too. Of course this doesn’t go for everyone considering some relish the attention or get in touch with paps and photojournalists to relish in the publicity. Still, it’s entirely fair to attribute the constant stress of attention and how your outside life is documented to a tee (people bandwagon the brands you wear, the way you walk, what you eat etc.) like you’re a living gossip mag to being a significant factor in deteriorating celebrity mental health.

Yes and no. A lot of people are smart and adult enough to know what a celebrity is what not. Or they don't care for popular media culture and just shrug their shoulders and say: Who are you? But those people who are really passionate for different types of media will not understand what a celebrity is. Because the media and especially social media raises people to see celebrities as superhumans that have everything that a human can desire. And to be fair: Your favourite band, actor etc. is awesome. Not just because you love what he does. Because they achieved so many things you wish you had yourself. They made it to a certain top level, which is ultra hard. They made a lot of money. They look great. They are usually eloquent, they are funny, they have a good or great presence, they have interesting stories to tell, they work hard for their jobs which demands them to learn new skills, they travel to exciting places, they are often not only actors but singers or have other cool interests. No normal person you will ever know checks so many boxes. Compare all that with your own life.

Honestly, I don't entirely believe they are ALWAYS depressed and sitting at home and alone. They are constantly somewhere, always posting stories hanging out with loads of people, always looking on fleek, unwinding on the beach somewhere in Europe or doing what they love - singing or acting or whatever their occupation is. Plus the touring part, as much as it is exhaustive it also gives you the insane amount of joy and satisfaction through singing your favourite music, dancing and just being yourself essentially having this incredible connection with people. And while I do understand the bad aspects of fame that were described in the video, I don't think being rich and anxious about your life is much worse than being poor and broke and anxious about your life. The only difference is that regular people can go outside anywhere where no one cares, but they are constantly depressed over not having enough money to provide for themselves and some of em are sad over being non-famous and unnoticed. And famous people dream of being unnoticed and unbothered and scared for their assets. But essentially both parties are hurting here. So...

By this logic…we could only feel bad for the one person in the world who has it worse than everyone else. And nobody else has any right to complain or get any sympathy.

It's about dopamine too. If you don't know about this, you'll be always depression. Doesn't matter if you are rich or poor.

Let’s honest. There is power being famous. Yes, being famous may make you depressed but there is level of respect. A lot of things become free because you’re famous. You’re a commodity. A cash cow. Celebrities who know they will be seen as a product will endure the artificial love and use it to their benefit. Drake is a perfect example. He always seem humble and having fun with his fame. Snoop Dogg is another. Always remain the same and just having fun with it. Enjoy the journey of fame. Once it stops, be a producer or a director. Run an industry. And you’ll be good.

Great job Jake! I think that people need to stop buying the illusion that celebrity and massive wealth are tied to happiness. Being happy comes from peace and satisfaction with your own life, and really finding joy in the simple things, like family, nature and friends.

Money doesn’t bring you happiness. It gives you stability and the ability to have a lot of freedom and things. But it doesn’t equate to happiness. You create your own happiness and have to find meaning in life

It is amazing how well Keanu Reeves has handled his fame over the years; the single best example of handling fame I can think of!
@RedSampler

so true... if you can film him all the time anytime doing basic generic everyday people stuff then there would not be that much interest from the paparazi. sure you can make another picture on day one thousand that keanu takes the subway, or has lunch with the homeless then no one cares after a certain point. ''i saw keanu on his motorcycle today!!!!'' well that,s nice dear he does that every day. i celebs wouldn,t act out so nutty most of the times, getting in and out of relationships all the time, and doing, buying, signing and saying the most ridiculous things then they could have what keanu has. a selfie or autograph from time to time and you can be on your way. what shall it profit a man to gain the world but lose his soul?

Especially thank you to Arvid Ali for letting us get an inside look into the reality of life for celebrities and for what we see vs. what we should know. ❤

Having money would solve practical problems in your life or at least help you to stop things in things like: rent, food and many other things. But it will never buy you happiness... however it migth help you by giving you some tools to look for your own happiness, but it wont make you happy just by itself.

Biggest reason is when you reach the level of success they all have, nobody will tell you "no" or contradict you when you are wrong. We humans are very bright and our minds can take us away into a fantasy world very easily. When you can actually create that fantasy world and you are paying others to be in that fantasy, you lose what makes you YOU. Reality. And it doesnt always take a financial position. If your parents didnt tell you no enough for not wanting to bruise your intellect or just because they were bad parents, you can lose yourself the same way.

I guess most of the people don't realize that when they speak about depressed celebrities that applies almost exclusively to American celebrities. It's an American problem not a celebrity problem.

I have had the honour of befriending a few celebrities and billionaires. Everybody asks me the same thing,"why don't you ask them for a million dollars?" The answer is, that's not what friends do, a friend is somebody you can rely on and trust, not a charity case. Surprisingly enough you will often find yourself buying the rounds.
