I feel like fantastic beasts should have been a Netflix show, where for the first season they dod a beast of the weeks, but very subtly introducing the gindlewald plot in the deep background slowly pulling it forward until it’s the main issue near the end of the show. It would give it more time to be fleshed out we actually get to see new and unique fantastic beasts, and they could still keep all the characters and they could have meaningful arcs and growth but I guess not...is it too early for a reboot?
@jinsstyle5 жыл бұрын
Omg this is such a good idea. But unfortunately I think it's too late for a reboot since we are already 2 movies in the franchise.

@nont184115 жыл бұрын
They shouldn’t have made Fantastic Beasts in the first place. The Harry Potter saga has completed in 2011. No need to stretch things or expanding the whole “Wizarding World”. I think JK Rowling tried so hard to build the cinematic universe to compete against Marvel but MCU is far superior as they had planned it since 2008 while Wizarding World, in my opinion, was created as a response to the rise of the first Avengers movie. Just an opinion, I may be wrong.

Something has been bugging me. Is there any way you guys can make a video about this? When reading the books and watching the movies I've always wondered, is there any form of magic that Muggles can actually perform? Not wand-magic or spells and charms and such. But what about potion making? Divination? Travelling by broom or floo powder? Do you actually need to have magical blood to do any of these things? Would love to hear your thoughts SCB! Love your vids!💪
@kcnbt995 жыл бұрын
I would say that, at least potions, would require magic solely if not that you need a wand to make them. Divination is already questionable even in the magic world. Used only, really, by Seers of which are magical. As for broom work or carpet work, I could see that requiring magic to control it but you could be on them. Though the Floo Network I can see being usable by Muggles.

Olivia Taylor the real problem is that these stories were cooked up based on marketing ideas. Somebody said “kids like animals and there will be lots of merch we can sell, let’s make a new Harry Potter that’s all about animals.” But they didn’t get to the step about how they would make that a dramatic series _without_ having to hurt or fight animals. They could have stolen the _Horizon Zero Dawn_ solution and made them evil robot animals. Otherwise, the only option is what they did: have a dramatic story that basically has nothing to do with the setup.

I don't know, but I get the feeling the Rowling wanted to tell the story of Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and the doomed, toxic, gay romance that pushed Albus to romantic isolation and self impose political unimportance for the rest of his life; and the studio didn't think that would be family friendly, so we ended up with barely coherent Newt and his magical petting zoo. All doomed, of course because Rowling is a great novelist, but a mediocre novice screenplay writer.
@LuddyFish_5 жыл бұрын
I have the same feeling. Like Dumbledore and Grindelwald's relationship was like a mysterious subplot in the books that was hardly touched upon. I kind of hope that we get to see more of the story of Ilvermorny's history in the following movies as the lore behind it is very intriguing. Perhaps in the way that the three brothers and the Deathly Hallows were explained?
@rosariocastro63865 жыл бұрын
@@LuddyFish_ I don't really think they will, which is a pity, it is an interesting story. I don't know why they can't just tell a totally different story set in Rowling's wizarding world. Something not related to Harry Potter or it's characters. Or at the very least the story that we were supposed to be having. The first movie is the one people most enjoy because it is Newt's movie for the most part but in the second one you can already see what was the story that actually was trying to be told and Newt becomes almost superfluous in his own movie. Let's be real, the reason why Crimes of Grindelwald FAILED was because of several reasons: (1) WHERE ARE THE CRIMES!? (2) There are too many plots happening and by showing all of these plotlines, it confuses the audience as to what exactly the story it is try to tell. (3) J.K. Rowling tries to be fan service-y but it doesn't add anything, she just retcons aspects of the Wizarding World. (4) J.K. Rowling is NOT a screenwriter, which is different from being an author. Warner Brothers need to hire a screenwriter to work with her to condense all that story into something that is watchable. (5) J.K. Rowling should have written the full story out and then decide how to bring that story to the big screennot vice versa.

I agree with @Random Cat, and I know we're not alone... I think the one crucial thing JKR and/or Warner Bros. doesn't comprehend is that we of the Potterverse fandom are generally much more interested in hearing about Newt and his relatively low-key adventures with his creatures than about another epic war between the Wizarding World and "The Most Evil Wizard of the Age".

I believe that initially, the series was not supposed to have anything to do with Newt after the first movie. I think the original plan was to watch the rise of Grindewald through the eyes of different ancillary characters each movie. Like maybe the second movie would have Bathilda Bagshot as the POV character. However, the 4 main characters - especially Newt - were so popular that they had to scrap those plans and shoehorn Newt into the rest of the series.
@najpotenicewolf9345 жыл бұрын
@@jchacho6335 I think that would work so much better. To tell few separate stories, which tie with each other, telling the story of Grindelwald. Maybe it wouldn't feel so forced if they created completely different side-story around it, just like they did with first FB.

“Doesn’t seem to understand the nature of things that he deems as simple.” This is one of those moments that you were talking about in the theme section where it’s a really cool idea but it’s just an idea. However the other thing that I think it could be linking back to was the idea of Voldemort underestimating the magical ability of things that he deemed underneath him as well. I feel like Rowling has all of these illusions between the two villains. That is why we see a house elf (and his magic) being able to get around all the magic to get into the cave to get the horcrux in the sixth book. When a wizard could not. Because Voldemort didn’t protect his horcux against the house elf’s magic because he didn’t see it as something he should worry about

My top 3 reasons why this movie failed: 1. The movie spent a long time building up suspense with little to no pay off, which made it hugely disappointing. Instead of making a stand alone movie, they made a filler movie that only exists to introduce new characters and set up new storylines for the third movie. 2. The tone of the entire movie was off and completely unlike the first movie. There was too much of a focus on politics and not enough on the main characters and magical creatures. In my opinion, this is not what the fanbase is looking for in this series and it left many viewers bored. 3. There were far too many new and/or minor characters that the audience was expected to empathize with and care about, but they were introduced so quickly that viewers have no time to develop any emotional investment in them.

I'm reminded of something Rowling once said in an interview... _"The lake is the setting for the second task that the Triwizard competitors must face in Goblet of Fire, which is also my favourite task. I find it satisfyingly creepy; I like the diversity of the methods employed by the competitors to breathe underwater, and I enjoyed plumbing the depths of a part of the grounds that had never been seen before. In the original draft of Chamber of Secrets, I had Harry and Ron crash into the lake in Mr Weasley's Ford Anglia, and meet the merpeople there for the first time. At that time I had a vague notion that the lake might lead to other places, and that the merpeople might play a larger role in the later books than they did, so I thought that Harry ought to be introduced to both at this stage. However, the Whomping Willow provided a more satisfying, less distracting crash, and served a later purpose in Prisoner of Azkaban, too. The Great Lake (which is really a Scottish loch, apparently freshwater and landlocked) never did develop as a portal to other seas or rivers, although the appearance of the Durmstrang ship from its depths in Goblet of Fire hints at the fact that if you are travelling by an enchanted craft, you might be able to take a magical shortcut to other waterways."_ If Newt had been surprised by Dumbledore asking him when they met and take his Kelpie with him from his home to Hogsmeade, and they met in the dead of night outside Honeydukes and Dumbledore suddenly showing up from _inside_ said shop, asking him to be quiet as not to wake up the owners in the upstairs flat and brought him into Hogwarts castle, where they would sneak outside and walk to the edge of the Great Lake.There, Dumbledore converse with the Merpeople, and told Newt that if he releases his Kelpie into the lake, the Merpeople had agreed to escort him to one of the secret passages underwater that would bring him out to sea, and that he could journey from there to France. Just release the Kelpie, have Dumbledore wish Newt good luck before Newt climbs into the case, Dumbledore closes it, locks it, casts an Impervius Charm on it so it will repel water and tosses it in after the Kelpie, which shoots dramatically up from the water, the case carefully tucked between its teeth, and then disappears back underwater. BOOM. That's how there would've been a pay-off to the Kelpie. How is it Rowling didn't think of this?
@LuddyFish_5 жыл бұрын
When you have such an expansive universe with many rules and places, it gets hard just to follow one path and make the sacrifice to leave some things out. I really like this idea though of Newt travelling through the ocean on Kelpie as it brings in more of Newt's closeness to magical beasts. And I might add as well this is very plausible as there is an ocean swim where you swim across the English Channel and many have succeeded.

Agreed. And that’s how rule #14, trashes everything said by the SCB. JK has proven us time and time again how perfectly tied up everything is and going for 5 movies should’ve a purpose above mktng stuff. Yes, all companies want money, but how about doing it perfectly like theatre, or 7 books, or 8 movies. Give it time, the lore is thickening and has us talking and theorizing so much that’s actually serving its purpose.
@Cllocopine5 жыл бұрын
You all say that this movie only will be good in the context of the entire series, but as far as we know literally nothing happens in this movie that’s actually important to the overall plot. The only thing that happens that will be important moving forward is the fact that Queenie and Credence join Grindelwald and credence finds out he’s a Dumbledore. Maybe a few characters that were introduced will be important like Nagini, Flamel and Newt’s brother. But the whole thing with credence wanting to know who he is, everyone chasing him around, finding out he’s actually a Lestrange but actually he’s not is just really a waste of time, we didn’t need to see that before we see the third movie. Then there’s all the other new characters that are introduced but they die so they’re not exactly gonna be important moving forward, Leeta’s sacrifice might be good to know about but literally no one is gonna care about that random guy who supported Grindelwald but not completely so he died, or the black guy who told them a really unnecessary backstory.
@forestgrump47235 жыл бұрын
It's fine to be part of an over arching plot but every part of the story needs to make sense on it's own too. Think LOTR. Each movie they have one big thing that happens, all of which are stockpiling until they get to the big over arching thing. But each one is a complete story on it's own as well. Movies need to have a complete story first. Once they have that THEN they can work towards tying in an over arching narrative. What is crimes of grindlewalds complete story?

I feel like this is the transitional movie in the franchise, yes it has many flaws but it also leaves room for questions and answers for the audience to take in at their our risk. Personally I love the movie have my own theories and directions for the upcoming movies, if you read this I would love to share them and see what you can interpret from them.
@anvime7395 жыл бұрын
I feel the same. I don't think that itself it is a good movie (SCB has a lot of good points). But I think that his movie needs to be seen as a link between the first and the third movie. for me its like if CoG is CoG part I while the third movie would be CoG part II. I don't think that you can judge them separately. Like with Deathly hallows I and II.
@jonathancampbell52315 жыл бұрын
Thing is, transitional movies rarely work unless they can also stand on their own two feet by themselves as a good film. Since we are talking about a five-part series, EVERY movie is technically "transitional", and if that is how you find yourself describing your story you have probably done something wrong. In truth, a lot of this movie could be cut and not only would it flow much better, it would probably improve the "transition" part greatly because there is SO MUCH in it that doesn't really go anywhere other than serve as an excuse for an action scene or be a red herring to mislead the audience which amounts to wasting everyones' time. Followed by killing off your most interesting female character. As a transition movie...it still has serious issues.

@@jonathancampbell5231 Like I said more than a transitional movie we should see it as Part I of alonger movie. The same as Deathly Hallowes Part 1.
@chriswats14334 жыл бұрын
When I mean transitional I meant it to lead into the main story of Grindelwald and his plan to gather the deathly hallows, we all know what is going to happen but it is yet to be seen in a true light. In my opinion the first Fantastic Beast was so popular because we got to see the beast we never saw in the Harry Potter movies, but now it’s time to get to the main story of Dumbledore vs Grindelwald (forgive me if I spelled that wrong). This is what I meant by transitioning
@vladmarcu35364 жыл бұрын
@@chriswats1433 Jonathan Campbell has explained very clearly what a transitional movie should be. Basically every movie which is in a series can be considered a transitional movie until the last movie. But even in this situation, the movies should stand on their own. On the simplest level, a movie should have a start of a plot, the events occurring, and the end of the plot. Simple. Fantastic Beast 2's main issue is that it gives absolutely no resolution to any of the plots or subplots, which by the way most of them were created in the first movie. Second issue is that the plots and subplots are extremely weak, namely no one really cares about them, except the plot with Grindly and Dumbly.

The Crimes of Grindelwald can be described by the "once upon a time" rule, but it doesn't focus on the story in this way. Once upon a time there was a man whom didn't want to choose sides. Every day, people told him he had to choose a side, but he didn't. One day he learned that his love interest had chosen a side. Because of that, he tracked her down to aid her. Because of that, he had to choose her side and oppose the evil villain. Until finally, he managed to find the villain's weak spot. Or Once upon a time, there lived a powerful good wizard. Every day he tought magic. One day, his childhood BFF showed himself as an evil villain. Because of that, the good wizard was forced to find a way to defeat his once friend. Because of that, he sent a friend to find a macguffin. Until one day he got the thing which made him able to oppose the villain.

Once upon a time there was a girl who lived on a farm. Everyday, she would do her two favorite things; ride her horse in the countryside and order around the poor farm boy who worked for her family. All he would ever say to her was ‘as you wish’. One day, she realized that when he said ‘as you wish’, what he was really saying to her was ‘I love you’. But that was not as remarkable as when she realized she loved him, too. Because of that, the boy (now a young man) got hired to a ship, so he could earn money for marriage. Unfortunately, his ship was attacked by pirates, and everyone was killed. The young woman vowed she would never love again. Because of that, she (being the most beautiful girl in the world) was pressured to marry the prince of her kingdom, even though she did not love him. Not long after their engagement was announced, she was kidnapped by three strangers and taken to a foreign country, where she is rescued by a strange man in black. Soon after, she learns he is her long lost love, but foolishly goes back to her fiancé to save his life. He is tortured to the edge of death. Until finally she finds out what an awful person the prince is and decides she’d rather die than be his wife. Her beloved stops her suicide attempt, having been rescued and aided by two of her former kidnappers, one of whom was seeking revenge on the prince’s top adviser for killing his father. They all escaped, riding four white horses.
