I tried putting my nightmares away with pain pills for a decade, lost everything, my family exiled me, hit rock bottom in 2016. I had a divine epiphany and realized I was only hurting myself, hindering myself, the idea of what I hoped and wanted to happen, would never happen

I just stay to myself. Retired. Hunting & fishing a little. I go through my bad days but on the whole now that I'm older, I know how to handle it since the military years. RIP to those we lost & prayers to their families.

Wish we could get past the stigma of going to the head docs. Had a sailor let it build so bad that he was gonna do it, until I sat with him for 4 hours talking. He agreed to see the shrink, and I am proud to say he finished his 20 ! Don’t be afraid to see the people you NEED to see.

At some point the counseling should just be mandatory, and part of the process. That said, the doc can’t be some hack.

Wow, that kind of confidence can certainly do some good for a lot of brothers in arms who have invisible wounds that destroy them on the spot. Hearing these words can trigger a reflection of the kind, "I am not weak if my invasive thoughts affect me, others are also affected. I'm not alone". Thank you. If these interviews are so great, it’s because there is a great human who animates them. Salutes from Quebec.

My highschool friend was flying escort in an AH-64 when they were trying to recover Marcus Luttrell. He struggled with guilt when the Chinook was shot down and all of those Seals lost their lives. He felt like he failed his duty to protect them. Part of his recovery has been authoring books about his grief through fictional stories. I have no doubt that this gentleman knows him as well.

That's awesome that it was mandatory for those guys to at least talk to a Psychiatrist. They don't have to continue it if they don't want to, but it helps to remove the stigma. Everybody needs a little help sometimes. Even the toughest.

All strong Men don't like to ask for Directions when driving, it doesn't surprise that we don't tend to ask for help with this sort of thing either. I got injured and went through a similar path. My mind still thinks I need to go back and do more. My body on the other hand, thinks my mind is an idiot. 🤕

I think the 160th SOAR is the most underrated and overused Special Ops unit in the US military. Staggering amount of missions since Urgent Fury. And not one Medal of Honor yet for these warriors. Makes no sense

what about john chapman ???? it’s like they just forget they left their CCT ? and what about SrA Jason Cunningham ? their PJ ? nobody recognizes these men, but the SEALs are always mentioned
@joesgotya99304 сағат бұрын
Though I agree that John Chapman should have gotten more of a mention here, this narrative that the SEALs left behind their CCT needs to stop. From the perspective of Slab in that frame of time, it was assessed that John was already dead, and leaving behind his body to get out of the enemy cross fire was in fact what saved the rest of that team. There was no way that Slab could of known that John still had life in his body in the situation they were in (under enemy fire in knee deep snow at 10,00ft) . And tell me something? why is it people get pissed off that John got left behind, but they don’t seem to care that SEAL Neil Roberts was (also) left behind? So it’s cool if the SEALs leave behind one of their own, but it’s a cowards decision to leave behind a CCT? I’m not a huge fan of SEALs by any means, but the people pitching this narrative that the mako 31 team just (intentionally) left behind a man to die are acting In dishonest discourse.

Not sure what I think about the Navy psychologist's, they sucked in 86 when I had a heat stroke! I saw one bake then and she must have been from a big city with no understanding of what she was doing! Because I grew up hunting, on the report, she called me an animal abuser, and because I thought the Corps was boring, she called me a thrill seeker along with all kinds of other crap that she wasn't even qualified to understand! I hope things got better in later years because they sucked back then. I wasn't allowed to carry a rifle for 6 months then after that I got put on guard duty and my first assignment guarding an armory with 10 rounds of live ammunition. There was a wall of open phone booths 75 feet away from me as I walked the inter perimeter of the fence. I remember thinking "What the hell is wrong here"! Shinks had no idea what they were doing back then, I wonder if they even do now.

Wow, waa my post deleted that quick? Anyway Army/VA shrinks dont give 2 shits about your mental health UNLESS the issues you have would/are causing you to lose your shit and break down while on an operation. The trauma, etc youre dealing with doesn't matter as long as you can complete tasks and accomplish your objectives.
