Nowhere does it say Sidious was holding back. In fact, if you ask, they say Windu won the duel. In this case, which is the question here, it would be a fight to the death without anyone intervening. With that said, Windu's lightsaber form Vapaad is extremely effective against Sidious. It would be a tough fight, but there's no doubt Windu would be the victor here.

In my opinion Sidious allowed himself to have genuine feelings for Anakin so he could lure him more easily to the Dark Side (Anakin might have Sensed duplicity if he didn't). There also is something almost affectionate about the way Sidious touches Anakin/Vader's burnt forehead and how he kneels beside him; yes I know Vader was badly injured so Sidious could have been gentle because of the injuries or to tie Anakin to him further but I think there could be something more to it.

Also, remember Palpatine's history with cybernetics. He turned Grevious into an unwilling cyborg as well, and there he meddled with his mind. It's not completely unthinkable that he did the same with Vader, which would explain his later complete obedience up until the point where his feelings became too strong. Vader showed no emotion at all between the awakening in his suit and his son's coming doom at the hands of his master.

For me it's quite clear that Sidious did like Anakin/Vader before his impairment. He knew of Anakin's unique potential, watched him grow, become ever more powerful, stayed close, nurturing an opening to the dark side in the boy. Anakin was a main part in his hopes and plans to overthrow the Republic and the Jedi. Anakin was very likely the one being that Sidious ever came close to loving, and I think the only one he was ever attached to.

With Anakin never able to overtake Sideous this is another reason to go and revisit the Galen Malek/Starkiller story as with Galen that'd have been a 2nd chance for Palpatine to have a truly worthy AND WHOLE apprentice again with power and potential equal to or better then what pre burned and crippled Vader had before his full turn. For fans and in the game/books, Sideous even trys to get the player/Galen to do exactly that.

Well its described more in the books that Sidious let a little bit too much of Palpatine through when it came to Anakin, though a Sith he was still human and had formed a connection, however small to Anakin. Also as you said, all the time and effort, and also the "awe" he had for Anakin. I believe its in the book "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader" that Palpatine is having a inner monologue where he's both mad and thankful for Obi-wan injuring Vader. Mad because it weakened him yet also glad because in weakening Vader, Palpatine felt he never had to fear him. It also talks about how even as a Sith he was in awe of what he considered a "god" in Anakin and shocked that Anakin truly wanted to befriend him. So all in all I think it was 2 parts, one there was no Jedi left that if turned out be as powerful as even a weakened Vader and two, there was a connection there.

Do you think that Benicio Del Toro could be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn in The Last Jedi? I think so and it's extremely plausible because why would they bring back an adult fan favourite character and kill him off in a kids show where he's done pretty much nothing that would have a major impact. Thrawn could almost defeat the Rebels and then in S4 be injured or re-deployed to the unknown regions like in legends only to come back and whoop the Resistance's ass teaching General Hux, Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma about being an effective an charismatic villain. even in his diminished state it would have been difficult to find someone more powerful than Darth Vader. Sidious knew this and he also knew Vader was easily controlled and manipulated. He was however always looking for a replacement and when he became aware of Luke Skywalker, the son of Vader with presumably comparable potential to him before his defeat he set father against son in the hopes of acquiring a better apprentice. Sidious was many things but he was at the end of the day fairly practical and more reserved than most sith lords.

I also think Palpatine didn't have another apprentice lined up at the time. So like you said, he put so much time & effort into grooming Anakin/Vader that he felt he could save him until he could find a more suitable apprentice....but even when he could at least what I've read in comics & books that Vader would rise above these new would be apprentices & defeat them as Sidious would send them to take out Vader. Sidious was always testing Vader, he sent him on missions that were tests & seemingly impossible even suicidal/homicidal missions. Yet Vader would prevail. It wouldn't be until Luke Skywalker came along that Sidious thought he found a new potential apprentice that could take Vader out but we all know how that turned out. Great video imo though. Keep up the great work. What are your thoughts & theories about season 2 of Kenobi. Maybe a more in depth view of young Luke Skywalker & deeper indulgences of Darth Vader after the loss to Obi Wan.

Yeah, by this time Sidious had discarded the rule of two like his master before him. But I think he saw the need to have an apprentice in case something happens to him that way the Sith wouldn’t die out. But his plan changed to have Vader as a powerful tool to keep his assertion over the his empire once it was clear that his injuries were to far. But he could have made Vader more powerful if he wanted by upgrading his cybernetics. While his suit did cause him pain and help his connection to the force as a result. Vader’s hate for himself and Anakin was his greatest strength to connect him to the dark. Vader did eventually upgrade...but I never understood why he didn’t upgrade himself to the fullest extent. I don’t buy that having the best cybernetics would have weakened his force hatred anymore or less. But maybe Palpatine would have taken this as sign that Vader was planning to Rof2 his ass. Sidious himself wonders why Vader never did this and took it as a weakness. But at the same time if Vader did fight Sidious....Sidious would obv win maybe kill Vader. But would of lost his beat asset. So it’s very confusing. Darth Sidious never had a suitable replacement. Vader saw to that. Also in my opinion when Sidious fought Maul and Savage. He should have replaced Vader with Maul. Sorry Vader fans. He still be emperor now. And he and Maul could have killed Vader easily!!

Sidious was worried about Dooku using Ventress to overthrow him implying that he was capable of doing so. Perhaps if Dooku deceived him after the Battle of Sullust and continued training her in secret, they would strike at the Battle of Coruscant when Sidious was at his most vulnerable.

It's expressed in the books that Sidious believed Vader's limitations were all psychological which does ring true with Vader's actions, he uses the dark side on his own terms and the canon is going with the idea that becoming strong enough in the dark side to resurrect his wife is his motivation, he kills but only when he deems it necessary rather than for pleasure as an example. As such my view is that Sidious though angry at first and based on his personality probably came to view the incident as a gift from the force, if Vader's limitations were mainly psychological they could be healed. Plagueis tried to convince Sidious they could work around the need of the sith to kill each other so it was clearly something masters thought about protecting themselves from. The suit gave Sidious the all powerful apprentice he wanted but with a safeguard against Vader killing him because Sidious's lightning could disable the suit, Sidious could be outmatched by Vader in all areas but still reign with that one factor.

Now that it is highly emphasized that Palpatine created Anakin, I think he was extremely disappointed mainly because his new apprentice and practically son he knew would now never be able to achieve the full heights of a sith lord. I think him conceiving Anakin is why he had affection for Vader. I don't think he would have turned away in any scenario. I think it was just a knee jerk frustration thought of essentially "NO! After all my work and manipulation he's ruined! I am so mad I want to just storm away furious". I think it was obvious because Anakin was passed out and Palpatine knelt down and touched his head in an almost loving way. And also when he said "there he is! He's still alive." You could hear the genuine concern in palpatine's voice. But then again in the new canon right off the bat Sidious began plans to replace vader with force sensitive cyborgs. In legends though he had no such thoughts. I think Disney is trying to make Palpatine seem 100% evil but I think Lucas didn't agree with this and honestly neither do I. To me it was clear Palpatine genuinely cared at least a little bit about Anakin. However after Vader's failure to protect the death star, I think palpatine then realized that Vader could not be relied on to protect the empire. That is why when he found out about Luke, which I'm sure in a way he sort of saw as his grandson, he decided that Luke would be a better apprentice and sith to stand by his side do to him not being half machine and failing palpatine so badly with the destruction of the death star which Palpatine saw as his masterpiece. I really don't think Palpatine is 100% evil. More like 99% evil. I truly believe he did truly care about Anakin to some extent even if he did ruin his life to make him into Vader. He saw it as doing Anakin a favor by getting rid of Padme and having him turn to the dark side hence calling her death a "gift". However when Vader attempted to force choke Sidious, that obviously infuriated him. He did just save his life after all. Why sidious would make him weaker by giving him bad cybernetics to punish him I don't understand. You'd think he'd want Vader to be as powerful as possible to crush any of the Sith's enemies. I understand the mask and skin to fuel his rage but not the bad cybernetic limbs. Palpatine was a master manipulator. Arguably the most masterful of any villain ever in the history of cinema. Even moreso than jigsaw. With that said, maybe he really didn't feel any true compassion towards Anakin ever. I don't think so though. I think he did until he failed to protect the death star. That was i think when Palpatine thought "ok he's gotta be replaced."
