Daniel Sloss is a comedian with two Netflix Specials; Dark and Jigsaw.
Before he played his sold out show in Newcastle I got to sit down with the most handsome Scottish comedian since Frankie Boyle to talk all things relationships, and some other stuff.
Expect to learn strategies to break up with a partner, mine & Daniel's shared achilles heel, why you should shave your anus and how to slide into Mrs Sloss's DMs.
Massive thanks to www.tynesidelettings.com for letting us record in their lovely flat, check them out if you're looking for accommodation in Newcastle!

I've always felt this way about relationships but never knew how to explain it to girls that'd always ask me "why are you still single?" Or "you still haven't found a man?", " Why don't you want to be in a relationship?". I've never been against dating people. I've just never understood forcing this "you NEED someone" ideology. Falling in love is a great thing, but I still never force it to fabricate a lifestyle.

Also, my mom was my dad's third marriage and longest marriage lasting almost 30 years until she passed away. He had the most kids with her, hasn't married since, and met her in his mid 30s. I've seen for myself that true love will come when it comes and setting marriage as a goal by a specific age doesn't mean shit.

I will say before I met my husband I was single for a long time after dating a lot. I loved it. I had no desire to be with anyone I had my ambitions and my goals. I met my husband at work and he was in the exact same boat. Didn't wanna date. And ya we are married and didn't have to compromise on our ambitions and our goals. If had to I'd have left him. I was very very happy being single. And I'm very very happy being married. I could not agree with him more. I was absolutely okay being single for the rest of my life rather than be with the wrong person. Be single have fun. If you find someone you find someone if you don't you don't 🤷🏼‍♀️ you make your own happiness.

A relationship is a friendship and the best friendships are the ones that last through the decades. If you have any old friends, you know that's the gold in life, when a simple look can bring about gales of laughter. You don't love your friends ALL the time, but who's lovable 24/7?

This is fantastic chat, the whole jigsaw analogy hit me like a freight train when I first watched the special and it's something I've thought about a lot since. It's really helped me process a particularly painful break up both from my perspective and from her perspective too. Now I'm focusing on loving myself and being comfortable by myself again before I can open myself up to love again. It's not all straight forward but it's the right thing to do. Thanks for this interview, it's great content, really appreciate it!

This applies to more than relationships. A while ago, I got what I thought was gonna be my "dream job" and had a lot of big successes during that time that I barely posted about. I thought I was just being modest, but looking back I think I didn't want to brag about something that was shiny on the outside, but made me feel like crap on the inside.

This dude is awesome on so many levels. I grew up very different. Deep in SE Texas. My father was a good father. But as boys, me and my brothers weren’t allowed to cry. Whatever the circumstances, no crying! “Dry it up” I’d hear. So as adults it was very strange and weird to allow myself to actually experience emotions. Took me a long time to be comfortable with it. Daniel is so open about his thinking and emotions I respect that so much.

Just wanted to add it’s really beautiful when two fulfilled, emotionally healthy end up together because it’s not out of neediness or fear. They’re totally fine being alone, but they choose to be together because they have a shared vision and goals. That’s so much more powerful than two sad people who are together because they feel they need a relationship to find purpose.

Minute 5:56. That was me! I was so happy being single and suddenly love came and fucked everything. I am happy now, but it was so life changing. It was so inconvenient. People was celebrating in my behalf while I was trying to learn how to share my life and I felt so angry when People said I should be happy cuz I was in a relationship. That is not the point. The point is to find your happiness no matter your status. Truth is Jigsaw is the best comedy show I have seen so far. I felt so good to be able to finish the show and look at my partner and know... We are ok.

This is an amazing interview. I totally understand it. Falling for my hubby was fucking inconvenient. But 10 years married, I am still so happy with my life. Jigsaw gave me a way to verbalize my thoughts on the subject and why our relationship works. We are both happy people separated, we just love being together, growing together. I wish my brother understood that you have to be happy single before you can ever be truly happy in a relationship. Thank you Daniel.

Hearing you talk positively about how hard empathy is but actively encouraging accessing your emotions in physical ways has me crying right now. It is so healing to hear grown men discuss crying and empathy because I too struggle with it and saw it as a weakness: I was vulnerable to the world and if I never cried then that made me stronger. I'm so happy to be connecting back to myself in important ways which I suppressed as a teenager to just get through school and trauma. I LOVE both of your philosophies and attitudes to issues, the human honest way you both bring to these principles is refreshing and much needed. I can't wait to go on an empathy dump after this! I'm glad that this bubble of illusion of love and relationship is finally being busted. I've practically always been single, managing my life quite well alone and not having the need of a partner. I am though very glad and fortunate not to have grown up in that Hollywood nonsense of fairytales and living in stereotypes, being forced to look for Mr/Ms Right and live happy forever after, as I grew up without tele in Africa and Europe and all that Americanism. We are all here to learn and experience to grow and not to be trapped in lies and lose ourselves with others.

Omg this is so refreshing for me... a woman in her 30’s who spent her teens and 20’s in full on (years long) relationships and are happy (have been for years) on my own now. People cant comprehend it... I don’t know if its just society or that I’m not repulsive to look at (used to model) but I’m a city councillor now and would have never done this type of high level community work had I stuck in my old needy ways... I love my life and the time I spend (rarely) longing for others, is far outweighed by the time I spent miserable in ‘relationships’. It would take a pretty special person to even make that scenario appealing to me now.

I understand completely the idea that falling in love should be inconvenient. When I met my (now ex) wife 15 years ago, I was not at all looking for a relationship. Not whatsoever. I was recently out of a terrible break up as well as another bad relationship a few years earlier. I was fully committed to stay single for a while. Maybe even be a bit of a manslut. But then meet this incredible person 5h away. I go there to see if this thing was real. A bit hesitant because I had an incling of what was going on. And sure enough I got that aw-for-fucks-sake feeling. I was hooked and there was nothing else to do than to move and get going with the rest of my life. Lasted for like 13 years and resulted in 2 kids. We are still best friends. The reason for the breakup was almost entirely down to my own demons and clinical depression.

@@thefinster Well, I have a chronic depression and pretty debilitating anxiety. But I'm more or less adequately medicated now. I don't get super happy about anything, but in return I don't go into the deep sea trenches of abject despair either. I'm on the whole provisionally content with my situation apart from being poor as fuck.

That whole love must be inconvenient thing really hit home this past week. I’ve been doing pretty well, just got a second job and lost about 25 lbs. I’ve been talking to all sorts of girls. I wouldn’t say I’m living my absolute best life, but getting there for sure. And then out of nowhere I met someone amazing and it’s like a kick in the balls. Like “goddamn it, I’ve been out here just doing my thing and now I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you for the past 3 days.” 😩

@@ChrisWillx I think (hope) that's going to change with some power going back to content creators. These days you no longer rely on publishers and record labels for regular people to put out books, or music. I guess for a movie it would be a bit more complicated but not impossible. I'm really curious what kinds of movies we would be seeing from Daniel.

Life is hard. It's nice to give and have support through it. But everyone should go through at least a full decade completely on your own. No financial help from parents or anyone. Alone. We are biologically driven to find that "stable partner" to raise children. I hate when people say "Oh, you don't have children? Who's going to take care of you when you're old?" Having kids for that reason is so selfish.

LISTEN TO HIM! adjust your exoectation but a relationship has to feel easy. If it is hard its not right and for god sake, do not through kids in to the mix untill you have someone who is compatible with you and you can have an effortless good relationship and then have babys if you want and make it more chalanging.
