Two questions. I have a 2018 Grand design reflection 297RSTS travel trailer. Pulled by a 2015 f250 6.2 gas engine. Trailer was bought used and has an E2 hitch. Is that adequate or do I need the E4? You briefly mentioned in another video of yours to disabled the electronic sway control in the truck when hooking up the e2 or another sway control system, never mentioned why we should do that. Should the trucks sway control be turned off with an E2 installed?
@therealjr91754 жыл бұрын
The Equalizer E2 with a trailer that is 34' long and roughly 8,000lbs I would say go with the E4 IF you are having stability issues. I turn off the Ford sway control because I find it fights with the sway system no mater what brand it is. Now newer models from Ford have got a lot better with that. There use to be a delay but that seems to have been working on that. HOWEVER try it both ways and see what gives you the best results. Some customers do not notice some notice a huge difference. As far as buying a new weight bar system and installing it I am going to leave that up to you. Do you feel comfortable and safe while traveling? Do you feel like you are fighting to maintain control? Is the front storage bay filled with the heaviest of heavy things that can be moved to reduce tongue weight on the truck? I do wish your dealer had set you up with the bigger system to start with but you know the price to have the new system installed and have to make a decision on if you feel uncomfortable... As far as safety goes I know I can not put a price on it. I have a trauma first aid kit in my back pack and in the trunk of my car. I Keep a fire extinguisher on each side of the bed. Ever smoke detector and life support item in my house gets lithium batteries twice a year. I fuel my vehicles and check, oil, trans, washer fluid and tire pressure including the spare on my wife's car and mine every Wednesday and Sunday. I know I am the safety dude but thats me

I believe that Equalizer has a video on that. Check the Equalizer KZbin channel. As far as the squeaking keep that in mind that metal on metal friction is what keeps the trailer in line. When it squeaks that the system talking to you letting you know that its working. They do make pads that make that quieter but you are reducing the effectiveness of the system. Yeah, am in midwest, but, there would be SOME mtn (western and SE mtn driving) 1x or 2x /er year. NOTE: I am leaning toward the 4-point hitch (Equal-i-zer). Thanks so much for your input! @therealjr91754 жыл бұрын
Always go E4 nobody complains about too much control from the sway system. Truck towing questions check with Ford. So many factors, engine, gear ratio, body configuration
@brawdys4 жыл бұрын
I have towed that exact Rockwood with an F150 through the mountains of Appalachia. The answer depends on the F150 and how its optioned. An F150 with the 3.5L turbo Ecoboost gas engine and max tow package will likely have more than 1600 payload ( some newer models claim as much as 2100 lbs). CHeck the driver door sticker. With a 625 hitch weight, there is 975 left for passengers, cargo. The 3.5L Ecoboost has plenty of giddyup for the hills and the F150 has plenty of payload capacity for that trailer. But if you ever want to upgrade to a much bigger trailer, say the Rockwood 29xx line, you will need more payload capacity. Now, you probably could still tow the Rockwood 29xx, but you may have less than 400 lbs of payload left, wherin you may be trying to figure out which guest/ passenger stays home. Of course, being forced to leave your drunk aunt home may be a good thing. Its hard to answer generically since it depends on the specific Ford F150. Look at a few, check the payload sticker, subtract the hitch weight, and decide if you have enough for your family, cargo, and your drunk aunt. Almost certainly yes for the 2507S TT, but not for a bigger TT in a few years, especially if the aunt gets a boyfriend. If it we me, id go with the 4 pt because no one ever said "I want to be less safe and have less control over the trailer" - but thats me.

@therealjr91754 жыл бұрын
So there are a ton of veriables that go into that. I am going to take a few guesses and fill in the blanks. If I am close on this numbers let me know. I would guess the 5,400lbs trailer is going to about 600lbs to 650lbs of tongue weight A 2012-2019 Ram 3/4 ton will have a payload capacity of 1,300-1,700 lbs If the bars are rated at 10,000lbs they should be rated for 1,000lbs of tongue weight So you should not be over loaded for tongue weight on the bars or the truck. However they are a little heavy you may notice some bucking when you hit bumps. Like a 1997 F350 without a load in it when you hit a speed bump. I would doubt with a truck that heavy you would notice the bounce/lift unless you were really looking for it. Same with the length being over what we typically like to see. Now if you switch to a Reg cab short bed aluminum body 4x2 V6 pick-up truck (just trying to figure out the lightest pickup out there) I would think about switching to an E4 matched to your tongue weight and get more sway control. At the end of the day the question is do you feel safe? Do you feel like you have control of your trailer or not? If not have a service department take a look at it and see what they say. Or snap a pic on instagram and send me a Direct message on there. See if we can get a few things worked out

Jr, we bought a Flagstaff 21FBRS last fall (2018) from Keystone and love it. At the time of delivery, you all did not recommend a WDH as we were towing with a 2015 GMC 2500HD 6.0 gas motor, but we did purchase a sway bar. We have put on a fair amount of miles in a wide variety of towing conditions. I have no complaints except I do notice the the truck rear end drops about 4” to 6” when we hook up. Visually, from the side view, the truck and camper are level. Do you still recommend that we don’t need a WDH?
@toddonsite41695 жыл бұрын
How much does your front end of truck rise after hitched? The wdh helps keep proper load on the steering wheels. Too little , you could experience lack of steering control. Conversely too much , hard to steer and could end up with steering part failure. Your current setup may not require one. But you could choose to use one. Or if you change tow vehicle may require one at that time. Also a wdh more evenly distributes the total weight over all axles which may remove or add weight to the trailer and if you are close to weight capacity pin trailer equalizing may not help. In either case , professional s need to assess your setup for proper recommendations. Hope this helps
@therealjr91755 жыл бұрын
Depends on how the camper is loaded too. If you put a ton of weight in the front pass through storage and in the back of your truck. Depends where weight is put even with weight distribution you can over load the weight of the bars rating

Love your videos JR. [Monster drinks] I just watched your video on how to Hook up to a trailer with the e4. I can easily see how it is a weight distribution hitch in s four points of contact. But how does it help with sway control. Your comment on pinching the brakes and accelerating in high crosswinds to cause the'behave control' ... Totally see it straightening out. Buy I don't see how this does much towards that. BTW. Bought my first trailer last week. 35' ouch.

I can attest to the E4's sway control capability. It's kept our 33' travel trailer in line. Essentially intense friction is created at the weight distribution arms articulation points, the "L" brackets and pivot joints, when you load up the hitch with the trailer's weight. This discourages a lot of the side to side movement necessary to generate that oscillating sway. You'll hear people complain about how noisy the E4 is. Driving through the campground you will hear a lot of moans, creaks, and pops coming from the hitch. That's those WD bars slipping as you turn, generating opposing force to the turn that your tow vehicle overcomes which creates that noise. That's the same force that discourages sway at speed.

Hey JR. I purchased my trailer from you guys and got the E2 system at that time with the 6,000 lb trunnion bars. I am now getting a larger trailer and will be upgrading to the 10,000 lb bars to meet the trailer weight requirements. I know I can just purchase the bars, but my question is can I use the previous trunnions and hardware with the new bars? Thanks.

I have seen them and used them they are really good. We just like the equalizer brand a little more and trust me we looked at a bunch

The most important thing is to feel safe and happy with what you have! If the system you have is working keep rocking it! If a customer is looking for more check out equalizer. And the only compensation I want is free energy drinks from monster/red bull/ and or quake

Just got a new travel trailer weighing 4200 with equalizer 2. Watching your video how to use it so I am assuming it’s easy to do it yourself . Going to pick up my trailer in two days . Thanks for demo

Hi JR, in your opinion, is the E4 hitch easy for an owner to install? We purchased our Alpha Wolf from Keystone in 2018, however, we live over 3 hours away from your shop now. We have been stationary until now, just purchased our Ram 2500 yesterday! We would really like to get the the E4 so that we can start traveling. Appreciate your opinion on this! Awesome video’s! Love your humor!

I think they are the easiest to install and the best. I have done a ton of them. When installing a hitch correctly by manufactures standards yes the Equalizer team is the very best. Now I want to disclose I did get a Tshirt from them years ago and I think a hat...but I am not paid to endorse the product
