Why do you need a mod plate?

This week we look at why you need a mod plate when you modify your vehicle in Qld.
Modifications such as seating, engine, transmission, diff, fuel system, campervan or motorhome etc all need a modification plate to be legal in QLD.

we just got burnt by that on our prado sale with rear drawers in the back, an absolute roadworthy nonsense box ticking compliance exercise., its not like the rear seats need to be unbolted even, they are designed to clip out.

Yeah there’s a grey area You can temporally remove the rear seats for putting things in. But if there’s drawers or something else permanent or seats have been removed and lost you need a mod plate to downgrade seating capacity. The way they look at it is, if you are complied for 7 seats and only have 5 but could carry 7 you no longer meeting compliance. Worst part is if you change from 7 to 5 then back to 7 that’s 2 mod plates you need 🤦🏻‍♂️

I have turned my 97 prado to a camper can you do a mod plate a 7 seater to a 2? Might have to come see you guys!

If a car is mod plated for engine conversion in QLD, can that mod plate be used to get a BlueSlip in NSW?

Even though we are one country on one code of practice, each state uses it differently I know if it’s mod plated in vic or nsw in last 5 years and you come here it’s reciprocal and we will accept it. But for ours to go there I’m not 100% sure sorry

​@@procheckautomotivemechanic4551 thanks for the response bud. I asked around, apparently the car will need to be "certified" by an engineer if you significantly modify it. This will include passing emissions as well, which i hear is hard. They go over the car with a fine tooth comb and check every little detail. Its much more strict than and expensive than getting a mod plate apperently 😭

No you done Head lights and tail lights just need to be ADR approved Body kit has to be 100mm off ground

This isn’t a new thing. Mod plates have been needed for years for reduced seating capacity.
