Is there any evidence to suggest that ice baths have a similar effect on skill training in that they diminish the improvements or is it safe to take these after workouts if you don't train for hypertrophy or strength

I don’t know of any research on skill training and ice baths. But I would guess that because of the added blood flow to the brain, that it actually would be beneficial. But when I work with skill based training, we usually prescribe naps afterwards because sleep has been proven to significantly reduce the time it takes to generate new neural pathways, thereby allowing us to do one more skill session without getting an interference effect.

It would be after to reduce inflammation I would assume

usually post workout or on none workout days.

@@NicklasRossnerPT that really doesn’t make sense to me. In my mind that would be detrimental to what you’ve just put your body through. I would always ice bath first thing in the morning. But hey each to there own

Both cold and heat appear to be efficacious in reducing muscle damage after exercise - which can be good or bad depending on the goal. If muscle growth is the goal, I’d keep it on separate days

gotta wait a long time on a team full of 22 players to use an ice bath for 2 minutes each before every training though. taking an ice bath prior to a workout can help you feel alert and awake, but also reduces blood flow and stiffens your joints. Which is sub optimal for training (which is why we warm up). Most scientific studies indicate that cold plunging is better left for after your exercise session - if muscle growth isn’t your primary goal.
