Legit! What is wrong with these schools? At my Jr. College, a classmate of mine told me she had a seizure some months back. She was unconscious in the hospital for 6 days and through that period she had missed her first exam. When she went back to her class, she asked her instructor if she could make it up. She had prove of her hospitalization and everything, but her instructor refused to give her a make-up exam. So, she went to the dean for help and he pretty much told her "that's your problem, sis. Come back next quarter and do better". I wonder why I'm even spending my time, money and effort going to a school where literally no faculty member will care whether if their student drops dead in the middle of their lecture or not.

I had a similar experience in art college. It was more so the teacher was flat out wrong on art subjects more than anything. He would critique for example a drawing of a 20th century brick building, and would say things like "Bricks aren't like that! They are lined up perfectly on top of each other and not so random!" when in reality bricks are not perfectly laid on top of the last brick, because that'd make the building less stable. He would also particularly pick on me, which I don't know why. I was as good as everyone else and when it came time to critique I got a lot of helpful critique from my peers and never tried to shield myself or anything, but the professor would always find something to completely bitch about in my drawing and dock my grade for and sometimes even holding up my drawing and screaming about it. Like thats not critique that's flat out rude. Or he would flat out say he liked the artwork, but it's not EXACTLY what he wanted. Like once he said he wanted my drawing of a cube assignment to look more interesting, so I drew the cubes in different angles according to the assignment, but put them near each other enough that they formed the shape of an animal. He flat out gave me an "F" because he didn't specifically ask for them to align to look like an animal. Made me so irritated, because he wouldn't make up his mind and would give an "F" for the littlest things. I also had to go to a many meetings because of the professor who failed me, and it felt so demonizing. Like they refused to accept that I could do art, because apparently the professor said otherwise and the professor's word is more important than a students. I get what you mean though. Dropping out isn't always the best, but it really depends on how good the classes are and the personality of the professors. Like I can deal with someone hating me, but it's a whole nother story when that person is ruining grades over it out of spite. It use to suck so much. The whole "what would a boss say" happened in my experience to. "What if your boss is mean? Will you just quit because you don't like them?" and it's like "He can mean, but he better pay me my due amount after putting in my work". XD Anyways sorry for the block of text.

You should have kept in mind that college is a service you are PAYING for. That teacher wasn't your boss they were a person that you were paying to provide a service. If they aren't providing the service you're paying for them I support quitting or taking your money somewhere else. Always stand up for yourself in college. It isn't high school and it isn't free so they don't have the right to treat you poorly.

Typically, there is only a short window where you can drop the class and get some funds returned. The catch is you don't know if you will learn anything until you take the class and by then it's already too late.

Tbh, I totally agree that if you don't want to be there, you aren't going to do good. I hate school. I always have and I probably always will. I was expected to go to college and I felt that I had to because everyone was telling me I had to. Safe to say, I flunked big time. I was so stressed and panicked about my classes that I started to skip and the just stopped going to them all(Accept my art classes, stupid I know, but I enjoyed them) I didn't go back either and I make money with commissions. I mean a degree would probably(actually I know it would) be good, but I cant do school. I just cant. That school sounded like shit. I had a professor who was...iffy, but I learned recently that she was talking shit about another art teacher who was(very obviously so) better than her, to her students and I heard about it and hooooo boy. Not like anyone will do anything about her. Shes been at the school for 60+ years and will probably be there till she kills over. She doesn't teach either. Just simple things in our drawing class like Blue and Red makes Purple(something most people learn in kindergarten and grade school while playing with paint. I had signed up and paid for that class to learn advanced drawing and I got the most basic color theory that literally everyone knew and she knew they all knew. My painting teacher(who was cool as fuck I love that guy) even said she was teaching the same thing from when he was in her class 20 years ago and that she honestly thought she was the best artist to grace that schools presence. Feeling really bad for the students in the tablet breaking guys class, though.

Pencil Princess right? Like don't get me wrong she's an amazing artist..but she's been teaching for so long(she retired but then came back to teach my semester) that no one is gonna dare fire her. She also taught a watercolor class but everyone I know who was in it hated it, because she did the same thing she did in the class with the bare minimum basics for the whole course.

Your Boss doesn't have to provide you everything! There are certain things that the company CAN provide but they don't have to. In all my previous Jobs it was a 60/40 between me and the Company, but what the Company has to provide you are stated by a law of some sorts (or in the contract). In the retirement home I currently work in we have to buy the white pants/shoes and the padlocks our self, the rest is provided by the Company.

That is just awful, especially with the Tablet pen incident, that is just total BS and a serious case of unprofessionalism on his part. I think the thing I hate most about certain schools is how they make you take classes that have nothing to do with your major. I won't lie, I went to the Art Institute to try to major in game art design and I hated how they made the students take classes that had nothing to do with the major with classes like Language Arts or even an extra curricular class like learning a foreign language. I mean I think it's cool to learn new things but I just feel that they shouldn't be required when trying to get a certain major you know? Needless to say, I so hear you on how teachers/professors can be hit/miss. I remember I had this one teacher I had for 2.0 Perspective drawing and honestly, I suck at perspective drawing so that class was hard for me but the teacher didn't make it any better. He was good at what he did but he wasn't so good at explaining things. I remember one time I stayed after class to try to get some pointers on how to improve and he just clearly wasn't very well-versed in explaining things as he was stumbling across words and had a few awkward silent moments. It just wasn't fun and I failed that class twice. And even worse, I had that same teacher again in another drawing class for life-drawing. Apparently he was also a hard teacher to get a good grade from. So yeah, I ended up dropping out and while I'm in debt, it was for the best honestly. I just felt that perhaps school wasn't for me until I learned of the Animation Academy in Burbank California. From what I read, they only have you take classes that are necessary to what you're trying to major in and I love that so I'm hoping I can go there some day when I have the funds haha Anyway sorry for the ramble, this was a fun thing to listen to but boy I could relate to the frustration lo

Oh my god I think I know what you're talking about. As soon as you said Southern California, a college came to mind. I don't go here, but my cousin does, and just hearing stories about how difficult her registration process is flabbergasted me. We had a date together scheduled once that she ended up missing entirely because the school made her run back and forth and jump through hoops for the sake of taking a single extra credit. She complains constantly about the professors, who seem to single out students every semester to pick on, and the administration that seems to just push work around instead of doing it. I hope she's able to leave that place soon and move onto a better university, because that mess is something no one should have to suffer.

I went to a 4 year liberal arts college and all in all came out alright, although there were a number of administrative hiccups along the way...probably the funniest thing though was the fact that part of the requirements for an art major was to go through about 3 levels of art history classes...which the school no longer offered. I was able to get two of them waived, but the intro to art history basically had to be cobbled together by the school at the last minute. The professor who volunteered to teach it was a nice guy and good at drawing, but...in every class he would show us these slide shows of historical art, and then throw in one of his OWN pieces! He'd try to shoehorn it in with some tangent about the basic properties of art that have transcended time or whatever, but the fact of the matter is he was trying to connect medieval religious art to his own random photograph of a bowl of eggs. He would also constantly talk about his blog and show it to us, and how amazing it was that he had so many followers (about 50, I think.)

Honestly with the vast wealth of information at our fingertips today, the only time I think school is necessary to learn something is if the subject requires access to specialized equipment and / or laboratory facilities which would be prohibitively expensive to purchase / establish on your own. A lot of employers are beginning to wake up to the fact that a college degree doesn't make someone smart or wise, it just proves they're capable of memorization and taking out loans. If you've got the drive and self-discipline, there's very little you can't teach yourself these days.

Traditional graphic designers use macs simply because they are used to them. Back in the 80's and 90's Macs were essential because they handled fonts better. Today, both OS use the same font types. Due to a strict school requirement I ended up purchasing a macbook and within 10 months it started to break. So I started learning more about computers and i've started building my own. It definitely was the best decision. I highly recommend it.

I'm in college right now doing art. I've already passed art but I wanted to learn more techniques. A few months in I haven't been taught any techniques. Litrally all I do is go in, my teacher gives us a list of what artists we've got to learn about and draw a final peice, write a bunch, draw and go home. If I'm late for a lesson I don't get paid for a whole week. The bus ride there is always late and we get blamed for it. I've learned more things out of college than I have in college.

Hi TwistedDisasterArts, I wanted to say I enjoyed your video and I'm sorry that you had to experience all these crap at Jr. College. I will be a senior this fall, and I'm already thinking about going to an art college. My dream career is to create 3D animations, plus I like digital drawing but I'm still struggling since I'm used to traditional drawing. I'm nervous that I hear the art college is "good" but then when I enter that art college, that I won't have good art classes or professors. I'm still researching about good art colleges that offer digital drawing and 3D animation classes. Again, I'm sorry you had to experience it, but your video helped me to realize to be careful about which college I choose to study for several years... I don't really know how to phrase it but all I'm saying is I hope whatever art college I'll go in the future, it won't screw me over like what happened to you.

Okay that's really fucking stupid. Unless it's some kind of money laundering scheme! "BUY THIS TEXTBOOK AND WRITE IN IT'S PAPERS OR YOU WON'T PASS!" I'll bet you two hundred potato chips that teacher was making money from those textbooks indirectly! Classes aren't sponsorships! Edit: Oh jeez and connection-based jobs too? Professors that don't want to take responsibility, and laugh at people who take his fake advice... Plus changing the goalposts at the end, that place has got to be one of the worst around.

that is what I am thinking! I've had other friends have classes like this. Where they had to BUY the book and show their teacher that they bought the book ( receipts ) Or else they wouldn't pass the class. Then the entire class went through and they never used the book. My friends even kept them in the plastic to re-sell cause it was to long to return to. Only to find out that the Teacher's husband Wrote it. When they found out and went to the dean to complain. And the Dean said the samething to them that he did to me. " Well if that is how they teach thats how they teach. " and now it say so on rate my professor for people to try not to take that class.

Schools like this are sadly not uncommon. I encourage everyone to look into self guided programs before they spend $10,000 on an education where they didn't really get much out of it. 1 Textbook at a conventional school will cover MONTHS of lessons at sites like Schoolism or SVS Learn. Also, Wacom tablets do not require batteries. Other brands might require batteries in the pen. It's a bad sign if you are taking a digital art class and your teacher has never used a drawing tablet.

i dropped out of my jr. college too... not because of the school itself being terrible or the professors being jerks or anything like that, i LOVED the college i went to. i loved my professors (particularly my Classic Mythology professor and my career basics class (forgot what the class was actually called, selective memory) professor). i loved the classes, and i loved learning in the classes. the problem was the homework and stressfully short deadline for homework assignments to be done. it’s a shame because i was actually going to be a History major, mostly for mythology and folklore in general (i’m a massive history buff and even more massive mythology/folklore geek/nerd). maybe i’ll try again in the future, but right now i’m content. i know “too much homework" is a lame reason to drop out but i have Autism and ADHD which means focusing on a task i don’t want to do is hard. to my credit i did my best but in the end the short deadlines and assignments piling up led to stress and the stress won out.

I love your art piece! Something I've noticed, and that I really like about your art style (or you. Or whatever) is that, you're not afraid to draw boobs. But you also don't draw all your characters with really big boobs. A lot of artists tend to be like "what? The b-word? I do them as average as possible, while still making them really small. I don't want people to notice my character has them, but they have to be there, because it's human physiology." And then the rest just "yeah. I like to make my characters tits real big, 'cause I think that looks best. I want it to be something you notice about them right from the beginning, that they have great boobs." And I think you have the ability to sometimes do them big, and sometimes small, but always realistic. Like, not f**ting basketballs. I'm sorry I went on a rant about boobs, I just feel like it's a problem in art, and I hate it when all an artist does is focus on their characters f**ting watermelon boobs. And I feel like you're one of the only artists I know who can get away with drawing them without this happening (I'm having problems with this myself). Anyway, you must think I'm really perverted now. Thank you to whoever actually read this, and thank you double if you didn't take it the wrong way.

To be fair, at least the advisor told you their art program was crap. I went to a trade school for makeup and I told them this when I signed up and they told me, yes go to this program it will be half skincare and half makeup. It wasn’t. After a year of no makeup the teacher finally tells me I would have learned more makeup skills and done more hands on makeup if I had just gone to cosmetology school.

TwistedDisaster that makes sense. I’ll still watch it, but I was kind of concern there. I thought my hearing was going bad or my chrome book was broken 😂😂

She always has very little comments on slightly older videos. People don't go back in time to watch the old ones I guess. Gosh, on her channel, 2016 is old, huh?

damn your junior college sounds like it was a total shitter. i dont know the difference between american education and my countries education but the college i go to is purely an art school and has some good lecturers and bad ones quoted by classmates from another class. But the lecturer who didnt know how a wacom tablet worked should never be even known as an art teacher. the decision you made was defenitely reasonable. And if you're stil thinking of going back to school, y not try my colege as they only do art stuff, if your intreasted

We have those as well but at the time I didn't realize art was what I wanted to do. And I didn't have the money to go to a "real" college at the time and I didn't want to get in a shit ton of debt. So I went to Lacy instead. BUT it was a terrible school. My friends have gone to their JCs with no problems at all.
