Reason I love natural hair: no more expensive hair products/treatments, with long lasting damaging results, I can enjoy swimming without worrying if gets wet, I have freedom to exercise and not worrying about sweating out a relaxer. Natural hair is unique and versatile, grows faster and healthier. You control your hair, your hair does not control you. Also beauty is in the eye of the beholder, never allow anyone to tell you what is beautiful.

@rachybaby724 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this falls into the category of 'easy for me to say', but if you _really_ like your hair, who cares what people think about it. I've had people in my life say that my hair would _really_ look great if I did a braid/twist/bantu knot out, all the Outs. My brother even said to me recently, after I took my twists out for good _(I had twists for a few years to hide/grow out damage...though, I retwisted every 1.5 - 2 months),_ that "Once you get your hair done..." -- I told him it was 'done' and kept it moving, while he looked embarrassed... I don't know what my brother saw on my head that made him think my hair wasn't ready for prime time, but I do know that the people who want me to rock an 'Out' style prefer manipulated curls to the real thing. I could care less, all I have to please is me and I love my curly fro. After deep conditioning, leave-in conditioners are all I put in my hair. *Side Note:* It's a funny exchange when people say my hair would look good if I did X. I just repeat with a smile on my face _'No, I like the way it is'._ Some think I just don't understand what they're "really" getting at, as if manipulated styles are the prized possession, so they repeat it...after I repeat myself a few times they start to get the point. 😊

yknight this awakening has really been eye opening and freeing for me! It may be hard to see but it’s true. Real love, real self love doesn’t berate. We’re all entitled to our own opinions and feelings but a lot of what I see is not preference it’s hate! Hate disguised as self love or “confidence” If you’re picking at anyone or anything I say check your hate. If it’s just something you don’t like ok but if it’s more it’s pointing something back at you. Something inside reflecting a “truth” you see about yourself and you’re not projecting making this world less safe and pleasure able for all 😈

I cut off my relaxed hair about 3 weeks ago and for the first week, it was hard because I spent so much time trying to make my type 4 hair look like type 3. I thought that’s what I was suppose to do to be accepted as a natural because You rarely see type 4 girls rocking their Afros online and in public. Also I would spend hours finger coiling my hair just to realize that it wasn’t worth it. I recently ran across your videos and since then, I’ve been wearing my Afro out. You have inspired me so much, so thank you! It’s not easy rocking your fro in public but I hope (like what you did for me and thousands of others) I can inspire at least one little girl with hair like ours, to wear it out and know that it’s beautiful.

Your are stunningly beautiful. I can't believe you ever questioned that. I did the big chop a month ago. I've been growing it out for 10 months under box braids. The first time I saw my true raw natural self I stared and cried for a couple of hours. At the age of 44 I finally got to see who I really am and I love it. I wish a relaxer had never touched my roots. My hair isn't easy to manage, but I'm enjoying learning and nurturing my crown. I can't wait to see where it will be in another 10 months.

Until I moved to Germany where it rained everyday and then I turned 30. That’s when I stopped blow drying my hair and never looked back. I have never chemically altered my hair texture, I never dyed it either. Guess what? I’m going gray now AND I’m allowing my hair to grow long. 7:12 your right seeing Afros are so rare and I don’t even live near the Arizona area. Just in general I feel like wherever type 4c is mentioned or in a picture it’s always stretched or blown out or in a protective style. Even in these charts where they are supposed to represent the textures whenever it gets to 4c it’s always manipulated. I think it’s really rare when you see a shrunken Afro. And a women who loves her shrunken Afro rocking it most of the time. Type 4 and type 1 is the rarest on the planet. Why not show off what makes you unique and stand out from the rest?

For me has been so difficult to wear the afro because I live in Spain and the most of them have straight hair. Even I only have seen a women with the Afro in my entire life. I hope I become confident with my new look, thanks for all your help💗.

"It symbolizes freedom", yesss I have a type 3 hair I guess, some parts are curly and some parts are wavy. I chopped all my hair off in my March exactly, and I felt free of all the oppression I was put on by society to hold the sweet straight-haired pretty face every one wanted me to be, now that I look in the mirror my hair doesn't look ashy, it grew out to have a black with a slight of brown color in it and I NEVER KNEW that my hair had that color, it was new to me, because it was grey before I chopped it off, I never want to straighten my hair again, it was agony, I used to stay hours every week burning my hair and making my hands red with all the heat. I couldn't swim, I couldn't have fun, I was always worrying that if ppl saw the "real" me would freak out, but now that it's growing back I am embracing it, it feels good to disappoint everyone and make yourself happy.

So many gems in this video. 💎 I 100% agree with you when you said that you felt like your Afro fit your face perfectly. I feel the same way. The fact that we can actually admire out hair after years of not thinking it was “pretty enough” SCREAMS growth to me and I’m forever grateful for it. ☺️😌

So glad that you're in a great place with your hair. I have 2 girls with a lit of hair and from the jump I taught them to love their hair. So so very important to instill this into your kids becos they dont care about straight hair, they love their hair. My oldest rocked an afro the whole of 6th grade. Was so proud of her. She didnt care what anyone said. Let's change the narrative for the next generation

Your photos from high school are absolutely adorable. I'm truly confused on how it's possible for those odious kids to make comments like that. I'm VERY, very happy that you've found your peace now.💙✌🏾

I agree, Afro Type 4 hairstyles are the rarest to be worn out! I’m proud to say I have Afro Type 4c hair and I wear it out all the time! I’m absolutely in love with my hair!

Sometimes I miss my curls (my hair is now loc’d) but then I remember how long my wash days used to take and change my mind lol

Years ago, I had a deep conversation with my hair about accepting and loving her just the way she is. This conversation was successful, and now we are united. Our hair textures are identical, and we must handle it with care and tenderness. Your hair is absolutely gorgeous ♥️.

Amen boo, I knew I loved you for a reason. Yes, our hair is spiritual and this is a spiritual journey. There is something special about people with this hair type. Something to be learned, incorporated, and yet very deep and personal. You my dear have embraced it, and that is key. You are so beautiful! Proud of you.

Thank you for sharing this! It took me awhile to learn to love my hair! But now I wouldn't have it any other way! Its actually magic! And if people don't like it they can jog on! I don't see as much positivity about type 4 hair as other hair types and i hope you keep inspiring others to wear there type 4 hair out and to love it!

I been natural since 2010 due to relaxer damage . Its was a struggle in the beginning during the learning what your hair texture/textures are and learning how to manage it . I normally keep mine up and out the way using a protective style using my real hair . When my hair fell out from relaxer damage I had extremely short hair above my ears . Also had a huge bald spot on my crown from alepecia horrible experience.

You're so awesome, I just love your hair and your smile! You radiate joy, and you helped me feel so much better about my hair. It's a lot like yours, and I hated it for so many years, even yesterday my father told me verbatim that he hated my hair and thought it looked dry and nappy (nothing new from him but still really hurts when I actually think my hair in a braided crown makes me feel really pretty.) He told me the others that complimented my hair either didn't know anything about our kind of hair, or that they were all lying. I started to wear my hair curly in high school, never had a relaxer, but it was always straightened once a month before then, and I loved it. I wore almost exclusively afros with my hair pushed back a bit to make space for my assortment or beautiful hair pins. I loved it so much because I felt like myself,, I felt like the joyful,, bouncing, exciteable person I really was inside. For the first time, I thought my hair actually looked like, and felt like, me. Now I'm getting back to that after wearing weaves for a long time, because as I grew up I had less time for my hair and also let the comments of my dad get to my heart, and I no longer felt beautiful without some sort of weave in my hair. I'm giving it a break now, and I'm going to go back to my afro, that you just helped me remember and believe is beautiful again. Thank you, Joy-el.

that's the scenario with my parents and I'm sure this is what a lot of individuals deal with growing PARENTS who forget their role and the examples they should be setting for their kids all just because their worried what other people think of them🤦♂

First off your videos have been helping me with me loving my type 4 hair. And when I start Feeling annoyed, all I had to do is look at your videos and it helps me love my hair even more. Reasons why I love my Afro, I can agree that the frames my face so well it’s round and it gets big over time. I am at an awkward stage right now but I still love it and I love rocking it it accentuates my essence and personal style. It is so versatile and I’m happy that my hair is mines and it does not look like anyone else’s!
