SOBRANG POWERFUL po ptr joe! I remember a rapper who happpens to be a christian also said that - you can build a christian empire without God. This speaks to me po in so many levels esp Valjean's Soliloquy after the Bishop showing grace to him ahhhh! To walk with Christ, to stay innocent as doves and be shrewd as vipers, to be actual salt and light because of our relationship with Christ..... with all the christianese words without Christ - puro panlabas but without the authentic intimate relationship with Christ.....thank you ptr joe! when we actually walk with Christ, we won't fit in political camps and even including some christian circles!!!! The Way of the Exile. thank u pastor joe, this gives me clarity so much.... everything flows from our relationship with Christ. nothing more nothing less

Hello Pastor Joe! I became "born again" in 1984 here in the Philippines before it became "popular." My parents even threatened to not come to my Christian wedding in 1986 because they wanted me to marry in a Catholic Church. I eventually moved to the United States because my husband is a citizen there. I've lived there all my adult life. I started out my ministry as a youth pastor of a small church until God told me to work as a public high school teacher. He told me "stop preaching to the choir"--that's too easy for you. He told me to "fish" where the waters are dark and dangerous. For 25 years, was surrounded by very liberal co-teachers and administrators who mocked my faith openly even as I continued to share the Gospel in hushed tones with willing students, parents and teachers who were more open. I saw God move in miraculous ways and eventually was able to plant many seeds and saw many of my students come to faith. I am now retired and my husband and I have returned to the Philippines as full-time missionaries. We are starting a school for Marawi refugee children in Mindanao--a dream God put in my heart way before I even knew where Marawi was. It was just a dot in a map that God told me to start praying for. Way before the Marawi Siege ever happened. I am on my mandated 14-day quarantine here in Manila and tomorrow I fly to Mindanao to start God's work among the unreached people groups/tribes in the middle of Muslim-dominated areas there. I listened with interest your sermon which I just stumbled upon today. I have never known a place where Christianity is "popular." I have never been assigned a ministry where it has been easy to evangelize to the people. He sends me where the ground seems to be hardest. I've always been grateful for this because it has caused my intimacy with Jesus to grow. Many times I am mocked, ridiculed and persecuted for my faith. I go to a place in Mindanao where I could get killed for it. Listening to your sermon, it only confirms I have made the right choices. Thank you brother! I pray someday we see each other in heaven so I can shake your hand in person and say, "Salamat kapatid!"

I grew up in a church knowing about the rules, the traditions, and the culture, but not really knowing who Jesus is. It's sad that that is what's still happening today - children growing up in Sunday schools memorizing Bible verses, being taught what to do and not to do, but not really knowing who Jesus is 😭 Thank you for this vlog, Ptr. Joe! I pray that it would reach more people. AND YES PLEASE DO RAMBLE about the purity culture here in the Philippines! 😅

This is a good topic, Ptr. Joe. I think one of the reasons why we have such a culture now is because many preachers have also watered down the gospel i.e. they have removed the terrifying danger of God's impending wrath against sin, they have made accepting Christ more powerful than the act of repentance, and they replace the simplicity of the gospel with useless eloquence. People are easily offended these days, and only want to hear message that tickles their ears (2 Timothy 4). Not to mention that some churches are more concerned about the attendance (quantity rather than quality) which consequently produces professing believers only, and not real followers of Christ. Sad but true :(

Hey Frankie… I can see why you feel that way. That’s why I love that it’s about relationships. It isn’t about how you look, how you talk, etc. You’re Frankie. We know you and you know us. I loved nga that you and Carla connected at one of your recent classes. It gave me a richer perspective of you because she knows you that way. 👍🏽

Can you please describe “culturally” Christian? I hope you are not parroting for the sake of it, apologies if I have to be blunt about it.
@rampfox3 жыл бұрын
@@actuallyfrankie and what are those movies please?
@actuallyfrankie3 жыл бұрын
@@rampfox There are certain things that have become associated with being a "Christian," that in some ways have eclipsed the actual Christian mandate of following Christ. Things like: only listening to Christian music, wearing super-conservative clothing, speaking in a more demure and gentle voice (for women), being unfailingly polite, not having or liking tattoos or piercings, only having natural-colored hair...in many ways, outward signs of being "modest" versus the inner practice of it that comes with a right relationship with God. I'm loud (and socially awkward, but that's largely due to my mental illness), blunt, and far from demure. I listen to and even make "secular" music. I like tattoos and while I would never get one while my mother was alive, I wear temporary ones and have even designed a friend's permanent one. I play Dungeons and Dragons. I'm flamboyant, with a costume-y, off-kilter sense of fashion. Heck, I work in advertising which is a den of iniquity if there ever was one (lol). To some, I smell like a wolf, instead of the Lamb. But those who know me, Christian and non-Christian, know that my greatest fear is breaking God's heart. That my desire is to follow Him and follow Him well, even if yes I screw up sometimes. But many people, who look for the "stereotypical" signs of Christianity--the t-shirts and the soft voice and the consumption of exclusively Christian content--miss out on this...which is why I've struggled with finding Christian community. It's gotten easier as I've gotten older, however, and have met with more Christians who no longer feel the need to hide behind the trappings of cultural Christianity. It is possible to be yourself and be a Christian, because to be a Christian is to grow closer and closer to God's UNIQUE design for you and your walk, after all.
@godsservant92363 жыл бұрын
What a powerful message Ptr. Joe! This is what I also observed in Christianity nowadays, it is saddening to see that "Christianity" became a social culture, but only a few Christians are taking up the cross to really follow Jesus (I am also guilty of this)- this is what God made me realize these past months. Let's earnestly pray for the revival of Christian church, that people will be zealous for God once again.

Wow, first video I watched from your channel, solid and sapul talaga. Parang nakakahiya tuloy maging Christian minsan dahil dun sa mga nabubuong stereotypes about Christianity dahil na din sa kung paano tayo nakikita ng mundo. Na parang same-same lang naman yan sa [insert other religion here]. Then we tend to draw the lines/barriers when we speak or act in a Christian way or language that makes others feel like they don't belong in this culture. Praying for hearts to be transformed (including mine) in such a way na magiging salt and light of the world talaga tayo, na makikita talaga nila na iba tayo, in such a way (again) that they would be drawn to Jesus and not to us and our culture. I mean, mangyayari din naman yun eventually, but as you said, our culture/language/way of life is not the goal for them; it should be Jesus.

15:23 When Philip appeared, and how Joe responded as a father sums up the message for me. That 'Hey Philip' just demonstrated how a father and son relationship is far superior to forced behavioral change. Since I was born in the 90s and grew up in the early 2000s, walking behind like that meant almost getting a death sentence like 'discipline' after - immediately or later off-cam.

We've been having a problem with this since 2010! That could also be one of the reasosn why we had a hard time looking for the "right" church where we can grow and have a personal relationship with Jesus. Yes we can have a personal and deep relationship with Jesus but the community will and should really help you in your journey. And until we found Victory, I am not saying Victory is the ONE right church, it just that it really hits us everytime we were reminded na it's about the relationship with Jesus. Everything will follow. As they always say "walking with God daily".

I like your sharing, for those who will hear this, it will make them think na it’s not about the culture of Christianity or the traditions of the church but it’s about true and genuine relationship with God and to have the heart of worship. People tend to have misconceptions of how to be a Christian or how Christian should be. And I don’t think this message is for Filipino people but it’s a for everyone around the world. The minds of the old way has to be renewed ever time because God always wants us to move forward according to his shifting and the seasons that He is changing. we have to be consistent in our faith and continue to Grow. That’s why the Bible said that we should have new wine skin- to have renewed mind and renewed spirit in Him. It’s very encouraging to hear this message, I hope and pray that this massage will be heard by many. So that their perspective about their Christianity will change and their relationship with the Lord will be renewed. God is shifting swiftly in this season and we don’t have time to delay or procrastinate anymore! God bless y’all!

So many good points. Thank you for this content. As someone who's in a season of restoration/renewal in terms of relationship with Jesus, I agree with everything you mentioned.
