If Games Workshop can make serious cash from insanely over priced, half assed games from videogames that are filled to the brim with glitches, over repetitive gameplay and mediocre story telling to board games that end up costing you a stupid amount of money if you want anything playable & figurines and paints that will cost a small fortune for a small army. Everybody who enjoys tabletop games should buy Sandy's games. They're not over priced at all. With Cthulhu Wars you get a tremendous amount of stuff in one box & if you like painting your figures there are 70 figures to go nuts with. There are tons of parts, a large game board and the rules are not only very well thought out, but also easy to pick up and learn. You definitely get more bang for your buck. On a side note: If you do paint the figurines, make sure you keep some obvious indication of their team color since the base colors are important to the game. I used an LED lit ring within my custom base plate for the figures since I went a little crazy with the texturing. Go here to buy Sandy's games. Own a piece of his heart and soul: petersengames.com/

Looking forward to many more plays once we can again! It may be my own predilection for heavy games, Star Fleet Battles is my all time favorite, but the actual rules are pretty easy to learn, it's all the interactions and special powers that add complexity, but also make each faction and the independents feel unique too.

Cost of multi-part and otherwise fancy eldritch horrors is no joke - I know of a Japanese resin Cthulhu 8" high that costs $90, and that's for ten unpainted pieces. Through that lens, Cthulhu Wars is absurdly cheap. Also - that hypothetical of a cthulhu racing game - the mind reels. Would there be races of traditional cars vs. byakhee? Would there be hounds of tyndalos on the track to destroy the guy in last place?

But why not making a lite version? Yes, most reviews complained that it was basically a deluxe version. I mean, people still go nuts for deluxe and collector edition, not something you would fear that it may cannibalize the product. Great ones have tokens instead of miniatures, tokens can be thinner, etc. I bet many after buying cheaper version would go buy the 'deluxe' if they liked it. Since this is a technically a strategy game, do you have any points how can a strategy game be also scary? Like a RTS, I know top down view can eliminate some of that factor, but again there are still games that does it well, like Sunless sea. Also props mentioning Yugo, I am from the country where Yugo was produced and exported from :D

I have taken precisely the approach you talk about over your games. One deluxe over-the-top gorgeous special game (The Gods War), then stick to more normal sized/priced fare otherwise. Though the temptation to "deluxe-up" the components of the smaller games is very strong. A Petersen Game does have a certain reputation to uphold, after all...

Sandy, comes first that I admire your work. Your games are excellent and many of them are iconic and among my best preferred ones. I proudly own every single product of the Cthulhu Wars product line. I also have everything that you Kickstarter for Planet Apocalypse. I bet you heard this other times, but as a customer of your company I don't resent paying hundreds of $ for the game CW is. I like the game a lot and I'm sold on the concept of the over produced game. I know you're not technically saying "my games are miniature games". Yet, they are and it's why they're so expensive. I got to say that I kind of like the minis on CW, despite them not being very good except a few of them, which are ok, but overall the quality is not so good. I found the quality of Planet Apocalypse, compared to the quality of the designs (I'm fascinated by them) and perhaps even the renders, quite lacking. I'm willing to pay, but not for that quality and that's why that, after receiving my PA all-in pledge, I said to me that I would not invest more on this kind of games by your company, except Cthulhu Wars. I know more quality would mean a pricier game and you would probably drop enough sales not to justify it. However, if I as a customer I could choose between CW as is or a more expensive with quality miniatures or cheaper version with no miniatures, I would go for either. Petersen Games' products are in a tough middle ground for me, with not good enough miniatures and a very high price because it has a lot of big miniatures.
