Why is Turkey extending its influence in Somalia? BBC Africa

Turkey has been trying to act as a mediator in the ongoing row between Somalia and Ethiopia. The escalating tensions in the Horn of Africa are as a result of a maritime deal that also affects Egypt. Turkey has been a long-time partner of Somalia but has also been investing in the country for more than a decade. A new naval deal signed this year deepened the ties between the two countries. This explainer looks at their relationship and why Turkey is keen to establish itself in the region.

Somalia has a lot of oil and natural gas but is in need of a lot of help before it can enjoy the natural wealth of it's nation. I really wish the Turks would not try and do everything at once tho. They need to stabilize the country by getting rid of the clan problems and terrorists before digging for oil. It seems to be trying to do both at once leading a lot of Somalis to think they are only here for their cut. Am all for giving them their percentage but thieve got to earn it in a honest way and not cut corners. Both countries can benefit a huge amount from this relationship although so far only Somali as seen the fruits. I hope Somali cuts ties with all other countries and choses only to work with turkey so as to keep the maximum wealth of the nation between us and us alone. Other countries have not earned such rights and can not be trusted for they will be quick to exploit. I hope Somali get a better government too this one is corrupt as fck. A lot of Arab counties use to dirt poor like Somalia, we hope to be just as rich if not poor once we solve our internal differences and dig up the oil, gas and natural minerals our land is rich with.
