Why My Green Cheek Conure and Quaker Parrot Are Easy To Train

BirbSquad! Today's video I am going to show why my green cheek conure and Quaker parrot train to always be so calm and behaved from the moment they get up in the morning to the moment I take them back to their cage at night.
If you watched my previous video on how I hypnotize my green cheek conure Yoshi, you'll know that it was a prequel to this video which shows how I implement those tactics into my everyday routine. Please know that it is important that you have a solid bond and earned the trust of your parrot before you try this.
It is vital that you bond with your parrot first and foremost so you don't risk scaring them even more with your hands. I have specific playlists on my channel if you're interested.
But this video is more of an updated morning routine and how I work with my birds every single day. It is important to be consistent and teach your bird to find his/her's own calm energy from within. All parrots can learn to be calm. Its up to us to teach them :)
Anyway birbsquad I hope you enjoy this video on how my parrots remain so calm and well behaved! Let me know in the comments your tactics to keep your bird calm so we can all learn from each other!
Also quick apology that this video's quality isn't the best. I had the lights dimmed to keep my birds calm as well as my voice low to keep them calm as well. Thanks and so sorry!

Hey I was chatting to you a couple weeks ago about my violent eclectus female Lexi. She is definitely going into breeding season. She has calmed down with me no new bites with me or the cat since we talked however she is taking it out on BeauBeau her boyfriend. She has bitten his toes a few times now. Hard enough to make him shriek. Locking her up at the moment isn't really punishment as she like to be in her cage/ nest (she doesn't have a box in there but seems to think cage=nest) BeauBeau is coming along nicely. He is so sweet and demands kisses all day long. He is getting more confident. It's so lovely to see him flourish.

Hey Kez I couldn't forget about you and your pretty birds!!! Oh poor Lexi is going through it huh? Yeah I would do the best you can to discourage breeding behavior as much as possible. But I'm glad to hear things are improving with her not biting you and the cat. Have you thought of or tried anything to stop Lexi from biting BeauBeau? And if so did you find anything thats been working? BeauBeau is a trooper for sure! So happy to hear hes been breaking out of his shell. Thank you for keeping me updated and I hope things continue to go in a positive direction for you all!!

@@VictoriaRyann keeping them separated from each other and they do have their own cages. But it means one or both in their cages all the times. I hate having them locked up, specially if I'm home. She hasn't been anywhere near this cranky with him since his first couple weeks home. BeauBeau won't hit sexual maturity till next year or the year after. So maybe she is just frustrated that she finally got a boy of her own species but he is too young to do the deed yet? Or he just isn't quick enough to move out of her way when she is like this as he hadn't seen her in breeding season yet. Took me a little while to not be fooled by her 'come hither' little dance she does and look a little closer at her before going in for a pat or I might get myself bit.
@VictoriaRyann
@VictoriaRyann 5 жыл бұрын
@@charliekezza oh yes definitely could be either on or even a combination of both! Maybe try something like having Lexi wrapped up in a blanket and hold her for a few short sessions? Then if she's doing good with that let BeauBeau out of his cage while Lexi is wrapped up and let him wonder around. Maybe that will help desensitize her some and get her to learn to be calm around BeauBeau. What do you think?

Victoria I do the same to my QP. Not morning and night but I do it on a daily basis. We sit in the balcony and I just cup him and quietly pet him while We listen to the sounds of nature just to have a quiet bonding moment. I’ve done this since the first day I’ve brought him home and it’s the best thing ever. I’m supper glad you mentioned this because many people say not to do this and not to do that but really what ever works for the parrot and owner. Every parrot/bird is different. Thanks for this video your amazingly awesomeness

Victoria, I am not new to birds. I have a lot of experience with larger species and small, however, Bagel has been my first Green Cheek Conure. I thought with all my experience that I'd be overly prepared for a GCC but they are a whole different bird. Bagel is not 'nippy' like gcc are known to be, he is bitey. I have met a couple other gcc and they were also what I could call bitey and not nippy. I'm still floored that this species is so highly recommended for first time bird owners. You have helped me so much in growing a bond with Bagel. He has started to learn what amount of pressure is acceptable on skin and this method that you just posted really works. I just tried this with him and he is completely calm and chilled out. Your videos have been a tremendous help for us. Thank you, thank you thank you!

Bagel is so lucky to have someone like you though that is willing to work so hard and understands what it takes to speak the birdy language. Thank you so much for the compliments and is super encouraging to me that its helping people. Your comment definitely made me smile :) so thank you again Shellbeme and hope you have an awesome day. Hello Victoria and to everyone in the BirbSquad, I feel a little out of the loop since I didn't find Victoria's channel until a few weeks ago. I love all of her videos and hope she posts more on youtube since I love seeing her cute birds and the rest of her fam. She has been such a great help, since I have a lovebird(unfortunately his partner had passed away a year or two after we got him) and was looking to form a better bond with him. I was also looking into getting a quaker parrot over the summer and now that I know the pros and cons I feel much easier in fully taking on this new responsibility and "challenge". So I just wanted to say thank you to Victoria and this wonderful community for always being so supporting and I will definitely continue to come back to this channel for when I do get a quaker and just all in all for the support and love. Thank you again and I hope to see Victoria post again soon. :)

I can understand your thought process behind this. You're kind of desensitizing them to all this touch and stimuli so they're less likely to get spooked. The petting and food are also good motivators to keep doing it. I just don't know if this is what I personally want for my bird, at least not exactly. It's interesting to see the approach though.
@VictoriaRyann

@BambinoDoll
@BambinoDoll 5 жыл бұрын
@@VictoriaRyann I don't disagree at all. Putting calm on cue is important especially in emergencies. For me personally, I get her to expend her energy with some flapping exercises. I hold on to her foot, say wheeeeee, and lift my finger up and down just fast enough for her to flap but not take off. If I see her getting too antsy, I'll do that or a quick training session to get it out of her system. She's always eager but then sleep and content after.

How come, just curious, ?? What kinda bird do you have if you don't mind me being inquisitive? I haven't tried this yet but I'm going to because so far all of Victoria's methods have helped with my bird.

I got a pineapple conure that developed a bad biting habit, her other habit are following people into the washroom which isnt a big deal for me unless its strangers then it's kinda awkward but did you ever deal with your conure biting and if so what you do to stop it?

Hi, most all green cheeks go thru nippy stages! I have a pinapple colored one also and I've been using target training, it helps to target train, improves your bond with the bird, also Victoria did do a video on how to stop the "biting" and her methods really helped me with my bird!

My green cheek is so happy to see us in the morning...and he needs out for his extra large morning poop. Totally disagree with your morning tactics, there is no need to be so controlling.

This is a horrible video. This is not calm. This is learned helplessness! The no talking and calm attitude can work but you should still give them the CHOICE to come to you. They have NO choice to come out and be calm because you are bigger and so they have learned there is no point in fighting you because you are bigger and will make them do it anyway!

No you're fine! Haha yeah the way I go about with my birds is definitely a little strange and not really close to what others do lol With my birds personally, they get a little too excited over food and toys. To the point sometimes they wouldn't listen to me or focus on what I'm needing them to pay attention to. So I use this approach to calm them and to teach them how to bring out that calm energy within them. If they want their toys... they've got to be calm first. If they want their food... they've got to be calm first. Too much excitement with them always led them to not listen and often times bite me. This approach has tremendously helped my birds and I. Hope that at least makes a little more sense explaining it haha. But thanks for not being rude about it you're awesome.

Your video that's titled why my Green-Cheek Conure and Quaker Parrot are easy to tame is nothing but abuse. This video actually made me unsubscribe to you. You don't withhold food from a bird first thing in the morning and you don't cover them up with your hands to try to calm them all you're doing is instilling fear in them. You're trying to control your birds and I feel sorry for them thank the good Lord above that you did not get my bird as yours. Your birds are terrified of you because if they don't do what you want then you won't feed them. Those were your exact words. That is terrible. Your video made absolutely no sense you have no knowledge of owning any type of parrots. And you tried to get mad because of the name conure you don't understand that at all you say a conure is just generalizing a certain behavior of birds what is the word parrot what does that mean to you? It generalizes hook billed Birds. Oh my gosh that's terrible. According to you anyway. Listen you can't go out and buy a Green-Cheek Conure and then all the sudden think that you are a professional because you're not get 20 years experience read as much as you can and stop trying to be so cute on KZbin because you're just giving people the wrong information. There's a little difference between you and I my conure a yellow sided Green-Cheek Conure has never bitten me can you say that about yours? I don't think so well not according to your videos anyway. If your bird bites you it's because you're doing something that he does not want you to do because conures especially green-cheek conures are social animals they're not aggressive they don't have a reason to bite unless you give them the reason. Piper my green-cheek has never bitten me because I've never given him a reason to. I've never withheld his food because he was too excited first thing in the morning. Do you know what that sounds like? Are you even listening to yourself? May God be with you and help you and I hope that you get further education before you take advantage of you to just to make a little money. You're hurting the Byrd community
