What might have been interesting (had it been this way back in 2005/2006) is if Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon had a protection effect that was based off the effect it had in Season 1 of the anime. The effect would be that it could prevent its destruction from battle twice while on the field (like an Xyz detaching material effect). I don't think that would have made it much more competitively viable, but it doesn't break the card and might have actually caused it to see some play

It’s worth mentioning that it already has a better counterpart in “Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.” If you control no other face-up cards, it can attack your opponent up to three times per turn by sending blue-eyes fusion monsters from your extra deck to the graveyard. It then gives protection to your blue-eyes monsters if it’s in the graveyard. By banishing it, you get to negate and destroy cards that target your blue-eyes monster. It may not be the most competitive card, but it’s far superior to the regular Ultimate Dragon.

To everyone saying that "no duh it's bad because it's x or x" I don't believe that's the point of these videos. The point of them (in my eyes) is to show why things like this are bad, not to show that BEUD itself is bad. I believe this is mostly for causal or new players that want to learn. Yes it's a vanilla, yes it's just a lot of attack, but they didn't know that and now that they know they can apply it to different cards. Okay well now let's look at the original Black Luster Soldier, well it's a ritual and doesn't provide any useful effects, so the only thing that it's good for is that it's a large body yet if you wanted something that big just go for a regular Blue Eyes that's way easier to summon. Then we can take it farther. Well while I want to summon a big monster it'll take the same amount of cards as my opponent will use to Dark Hole them and then summon a few lower attack monsters with useful effects to swarm the field and then go into even bigger monsters. I suppose to summarize this ramble, a new player doesn't understand that attack isn't everything and Dzeeff is trying to explain it in a way that they can apply it to other decks and strategies. Edit: Making it easier to read.

I’ll be honest, I absolutely love Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and his retrains. I do actually play Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon in my Blue-Eyes Deck, though I do understand why most people wouldn’t play it in a Blue-Eyes deck, Fusions in that deck are a pretty slow outside of maybe Twin Burst. I do bring Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon out sometimes but I usually just choose to bring out Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, though I don’t bring him out too often either, I usually just stick with bringing out Twin Burst, First of the Dragons, my Synchros, or my rank 8 Xyz monsters. If at least this card had the anime effect of being able to attack thrice, it would at least make up for the cost for having 4500 extra total damage on the board. But still, protection basically makes or brakes any big monster.
@NickersonGeneral3 жыл бұрын
Not really. Cyber Twin Dragon has zero protection effects and it saw tons of play back in early yugioh. If BEWD could attack thrice, that'd have probably been the best choice for Stein OTK decks. What makes or breaks big boss monsters boils down to two questions: How difficult is it to get on the field consistent, and how useful is it's effect once it's there? Protection effects are nice and all, but not very useful if the card does little else. The better effects are things like generic removal (especially if it's non-targeting), negation effects, or some kind of lockdown effects.

I feel like it's a useful enough card to have in your extra deck in case the situation arises.

I've been playing Yu-Gi-Oh for nearly 16 years now and I've never used Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon in any decks I build but I still think it's a really powerful card😎👍

Hey I play 3 blue eyes ultimate to banish with pot of extravagance. Not really I use stardust monsters because they are way cooler.

Blue-Eyes is cool and all but what about Trains?

i was a little disappoint that you mentioned shining, but didnt talk about it. blue eyes ultimate might as well be an extra deck ritual card that says sack 3 blue eyes, bring out shining from your hand. shining has enough base attack to be worth it, plus he buffs for every dragon in the graveyard which justifies ultimates cost a little bit. and hes got wicked protection effects. shining also discourages cheezing ultimate to the field cuz then you get less attack power.

For me, my favorite monster to get summoned in the anime has always been Relinquished and Thousand-Eyes Restrict.

I used kuriboh to destroy Blue eyes ultimate. How you ask? Kuriboh + moon mirror shield. That was fun.

The blue eyes deck has now really gotten a huge boost since you can go with blue eyes ultimate dragon or go with neo version of it and the alternative blue eyes their are a lot of new cards for a blue eyes deck I can say I have a little over 22 different decks and one deck has neo blue eyes ultimate dragon so I even twin burst so the decks for blue eyes are changing now as well.

the way Konami came up with Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon's Attack is by dividing the atk of vanilla Blue-Eyes by 2 and then multiplying that value by the total amount of dragons, which is 3. and so 4500 atk same goes for the defense stat but they round the value to 3800 because you get 3750 when using the formula. as for the fact that it's level 12, is also the same idea since vanilla blue eyes is level 8. divide by 2 equals 4. times 3 is 12. and so a level 12 monster

I run a deck with both Ultimate Dragon AND Five Headed Dragon. I can easily bring out more White Dragons because i also run Cosmo Brain, White Stone of Legend and Mausoleum of White (which i often team up with Silver's Cry, Birthright or Azure Eyes Silver Dragon). Once i fusion summon Ultimate Dragon with Polymerization, i ALSO bring out 5 Headed Dragon right away with Dragon's Mirror
