honestly as a guy who works at zumiez and has been skating for almost 12 years now, it really depends on where you are. when i was a kid zumiez really helped me get into skating and whatnot, but that’s bc where i live, skaters only have zumiez as a skate shop, there’s none around me at all. so i agree for the most part, but if you’re in a place i was and still am, zumiez helps a lot. it also gives skaters a job they don’t wanna blow their brains out at 🤷♂️

@@quinnrobinson3776 true that may be I am a bit guilty of also showing the more expensive options not because I want you to buy it but to show you there are more expensive/longer lasting products and skating most definitely not cheap but being able to spend an extra $10/$20 on a good sturdy pair of skate shoes can make a world of difference than constantly coming back and buying the same cheap pair over and over

In my opinion, Zumiez has good clothes, shoes, and even some good graphics on the decks. But sometimes I think that the "Skate Culture" can be a little stupid. not gonna lie I'm a manager at a Zumiez we try our best to host events for the skaters and for anyone who just wants to hangout and spend time with people in that age range but it kind of sucks paying the most of that outta pocket and it would be pretty cool to get some form of grants so we can help build community. one of our old co-workers opened a local skate shop downtown and we've been telling the locals to go there for decks. also i know not every employee skates but that doesn't some some of my subordinates from being excited to learn about the anatomy of a skateboard to help the lil homies get started with skating and most of the time they end up picking up a board themselves.

While I can agree that they may not be the best choice, for many, it's the only choice. My son was not a skater before he bought his first board, but he wanted to go to Zumiez, because he was familiar with them. The store we went to was very knowledgeable and did a great job. As a skater myself, I was able to give some insight to the type and how to pick out a board. When I got back into boarding, I bought my board from there. I could have gone online, but I chose not to. Yes, Zumiez is a corporate owned store, but people need to understand the mission of Corporate America before entering it. Their goal is to make money, as with any business. Small business should be supported, but the consumer needs to educate himself before spending their time and money. Every car salesman doesn't know cars, every beautician doesn't know cosmetics. Skateboarding is no different. Do your homework as a consumer and spend your money accordingly

I went into the store as a young ambitious skater and all I wanted was to get some new wheels on my skateboard and they told me that I wasn't able to replace my wheels then they told me they'd hook me up with a brand new setup and ended up giving me a used beat up complete that one of their employees were planning on throwing away which was a 8.38 and I was skating a 7.75 at the time, then they ended up taking my board away and gave it to some other older dude in the store who wanted it. I think Zumiez is a good thing because it often leaves itself as a last ditch option for communities who might no longer have a local shop for one reason or another but still prefer to buy in person. New skateboarders definitely need that in person touch with someone experienced to help them pick out the right board and get started. While you should almost always support your local shop, I think shopping at Zumiez as a backup is completely valid, plus sometimes they have some sick deals on clothes and shoes.

As an Australian individual we don't have Zumiez retailors available likely anywhere in the country, we do however have a brand known as Fast Times which is a company owned by Zumiez, From what I can tell every single employee I have encountered within a fast times is a die hard skater and is are all seriously cool people Honestly love the place. Though I frequent a variety of skate shops other than Fast Times its honestly quite the pleasant experience when I do.

Not to mention, how expensive it is. Legit, I was at the mall for Christmas shopping, and I popped in the store to look for a tech deck for a friend, but a single board was like 24 dollars. I went to target and got a pack of 10 for 30 bucks.

i remember when i took my little brother to zumies for his first skateboard, i know very little but they tried to sell him the biggest skateboard they had. we ended up driving another hour to a real skate shop that could actually help us

Only reason I go there is to get my boards because my local shop closed down years ago...I feel ashamed everytime I go in. I even bought some new shoes to skate in the other day 😭

I was so lucky that I found a great local skate shop for my first board. I recommend Insanity board shop in San Antonio, TX for anyone who happens to be in the area. Zumiez did get me seriously thinking about skating though before I got my board so I can give them that much.

my favorite skate shop is literally called "ollie's skate shop" and it's actually pretty good for being one of the only skate shops in town

I got a pretty rare zumiez, there's somebody that works there, and we are practically best friends. He owns a fewskateboards and has good advice for me, and also a few other people there too. I kinda don't really like that all zumiez are bad for advice, and even if it's most 9f them, you could find a good one, so please keep looking for good ones, and don't hate on all of them.

There's nothing wrong with buying from Zumiez as long as it's the only skate shop in town.

zumiez used to be pretty legit back in the day tho. like 2004-2008. there wasn’t a lot of skate shops near me, and they used to have a decent amount of events

Zumiez is THE CLOSEST skate shop I have without going all the way out of town lmao

Zumies is the only skate shop where I live I feel like a poser everytime I have to replace part of my board. Also everyone at my Zumies has to skate or say that they don’t but there’s allways 1 skater there

I have a Zumiez in my mall and they knew exactly what they were doing when they put my skateboard together. and all companies need to bring in some type of money or else they wouldn’t exist

i have a really nice skate shop near me and 1 of the biggest things that they did is that they helped to create a a local professional skateboard manufacturer so that way the were able to cut around 50% of the shipping costs

I only had the two options where i live, Zumiez and a place called Industrial. Industrial was where all the actual skaters shopped, Zumiez was where the skaters Gf's shopped.

I live in Montana, so my local "skate shop" just mostly sells snowboards and stuff. So the only place I can get my skate stuff is at Zumiez.

I was confused until I realized my Zumiez is different than the ones you talk about. Just cause other people say you shouldn’t go to somewhere doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. My Zumiez is very nice and there is an employee who does skate there who I am friends with and we talk about our progress when I go to buy clothes.

I would actually shop at a local skate shop, but basically no place in my state has a local skate shop and only has zumiez
