It took everything in me to listen all the way thru... The only reason I stayed the course was because of your commentary because you were calling dude out and pretty much saying what I was thinking... Dom2k was talking out of both sides of his mouth the entire video... He kept giving "reasons" why LeBron is better than Kobe yet those same reasons could be used against LeBron in more ways than one, not to mention that he downplayed LeBron's failures and overexaggerated Kobe's... Plus, that entire 2010 playoffs, Kobe went into that postseason with 2 broken fingers on his shooting hand (index and pinky), banged up knees (that he had to get drained during the Finals), a bone spur in his ankle and back spasms... So physically he was already handicapped yet he still led his team to the Finals, especially capping it off with his stellar closeout game 6 in the WCF against your Suns (my bad for mentioning that lol)... Kobe ran out of gas during the Finals whereas LeBron straight gave up in the ECF because he knew he was outta Cleveland... Also while Kobe was beating great teams to get to the Finals, LeBron was stacking the deck in an already weaker conference... It was just too much for me so thank you for your commentary... I think what has happened is we're now so far into the participation, everyone is a winner, era that sports is trying to remove the standards of what once was because it's too much for these athletes to handle. They want previous eras gone to start a completely new image. Because everyone is a winner, they don't want winning to count as much. It's just who looks the best from a model's standard as opposed to an athlete and competitive standard.

There is a lot to this but a couple key points I disagree with Dom on: 1. Era - Kobe played in an era defined by low scoring, low FG percentage, defensive grind teams for half of of his career and most of his prime. LeBron only spent the first 5 or so years in that era. 2. Shot Selection/Type - Kobe, being a perimeter player who emphasized longer 2pt jumpers will naturally shoot a lower, overall FG% than LeBron who shoots ~65-70% of his shots within 5ft of the hoop. Anecdotal, but Kobe took a lot of "bad" end of the shot clock/quarter shots that had low chances of success. LeBron passes those up more often to preserve a good FG%, Kobe just wanted there to be a chance for a score, even if it was a 1% chance. Side not on %'s, True Shooting % is a better way to account for efficiency due to it factoring in 3pt shots count for 3pts. With that, Kobe shot 55% TS% for his career, LeBron shoots 58.9% TS% as a paint scorer primarily, and Jordan as a better Kobe analogue shot 56.9%. Others to note for era comparison: T-Mac - 51.9%, AI - 51.8%, VC - 53.6%, Paul Pierce - 56.8%, and for good measure Gilbert Arenas - 54.7%. 3. Kobe's teams were not on par with any that LeBron had, talent-wise. The Shaq/Kobe Lakers really only had Shaq and Kobe. Who was there 3rd best player? Fisher? Fox? Then in the second contender run he had Pau (1 time all star prior to joining Kobe) and always injured Bynum with bench Odom and Artest in the 2nd chip. None of them made an all star game or all NBA selection. LeBron's teams had Wade/Bosh (with Ray Allen in the 2nd chip), Love/Kyrie (with players like Richard Jefferson and JR Smith to balance the bench with others), and Davis/Howard/Rondo in the LA Disney championship. 4. Playstyle and Offensive Scheme - Kobe played in the triangle offense, which if you look at any team running it, was not conducive to high assist totals. The triangle is an equal opportunity offense, so the fact that the team's highest scorer (Kobe) was the leader in assists tells you he was not just a selfish shot chucker. LeBron plays LeBron ball. He has the ball in his hands almost every possession and makes all of the decisions every play. That makes it very easy to accrue counting stats like points and assists. This style, however, does not help his teammates as some might say he does. That is why, in Miami, they lost 2 championships in highly favored series. It is because his teammates are not allowed to play their game, they need to play around LeBron, so the team goes as LeBron goes. You can see this in his usage rate. You will notice it stays almost identical, year over year, no matter the complexion of his team. You can see, for reference, in the 2007 year where he was playing with Z, Hughes, and Booby Gibson, his usage rate was 29.6, then he joined Wade and Bosh in Miami in 2011 and his usage rate was 29.7. Compare that with Kobe; in 2006 when he was a solo show, his usage rate was 35.3, then in 2008 when Pau joined the team his usage rate dropped to 29.3. Further showing the difference, in 2004 when Kobe had Shaq, Malone, and Payton, his usage rate as the primary playmaker was down to 27.0. The point is, as your team makeup changes and you get better teammates, you need to adjust to make the most of them. If you make everyone else adjust, only your personal stats will benefit. Kobe, more than any other top 5 player really needs people to look at the context of his career. His first 2 years his coach would not start him, tanking his averages and total stats, then his last 3 years he was plagued with injuries that heavily affected his play. If you look at his healthy(ish) 15 years, you have a 27, 5, and 5 player shooting 46.5% (apx 56% TS%). He was also an all defensive and all NBA player all of those years. I still think LeBron is top 5, but when I really start digging in to it, and having watched both of their careers start to finish. Kobe ranks higher for me, and that's not even counting his championships.

They usually let kobe work the last 6 seconds. Kobe always took the last second shots facing at least 2 defenders. You never saw kobe taking open shots.

I don't understand when people laud the longevity of Lebum's career, that the fact that he (Lebum) has only played half the game for the past 10 years isn't brought to attention. He only plays offense, rests on defense and then yells at his teammates for not picking up his missed assignment. Furthermore, the Cavs in 2016 were picked to beat the Warriors. Nobody mentions that Kobe scoring is lower than LeBron because his first couple of seasons his coach didn’t want to play him much. And then the last three seasons of injuries. Nobody mentions context when looking at stats. Like Kobe’s 3pt shooting is lower but all his shots are heavily contested because people feared his shooting. Where LeBron has practically been left open to shoot 3’s because nobody cared about his shooting until lately.

Thanks for re-posting, I have avoided Dom2k since, well, forever. All the great players had flaws, just like any normal human beings. Kobe was a product of his time just as LeBron is for now. I've always liked LeBron before he left for Miami. At least the guy looked like he cared and competed for real. Post-Decision I've never taken him seriously as a player. It's obvious he's super-gifted and a natural showman. Once an athlete games the system he corrupts the nature of the sport and competition. A great player, no doubt, but short of the hallowed pantheon. While I think Bron is a more efficient, more talented player, I don't think him as better than Kobe, and I'm not a huge Kobe fan, at all. Stats disguise impact on a game, because data, while neutral, only goes so far as to how a player really contributes to winning. Kobe will always be less efficient because of his play style, which is attack mode. But that's what made him great. LeBron is a far more cerebral player, and while that has its benefits, he's not the sort of guy who will play balls-to-the-wall. As for Kobe/Shaq, Shaq had as much to do with the split just as Kobe did, and while I took Shaq's side at the time, in the end, Dr. Buss chose correctly, because Kobe was a known quantity and a consummate professional, as well as being younger with more productive years ahead of him. LeBron in the same situation? Wouldn't have asked for Phil as head coach, would have asked for Shaq to be traded before signing his rookie extension.

Context matters right? Skap did great pointing out what isn’t talked about. from the state of the conferences and how hard East vs West difficulty to who Lebron played with vs Kobe’s supporting cast but I still feel their is context being missed. Nobody talks about how many points and free throws came off Lebron flopping or how much he Flopped vs Kobe? Seriously how many times did you ever see Kobe on Shaq’ting a fool? People talk about Lebron passing more but nobody mentions Lebron was taller, longer stronger than Kobe he was better suited to pass the ball better. Additionally, his size and positioning made it possible for Lebron to fill many Stats better than Kobe he was better positioned on the court to pull down more rebounds and blocks his physical ability though impressive allowed him to trail in a fast break and receive the ball for a glamorous power dunk. Where Kobe had to face his obstacles head on a far harder task nobody talks about the types of strategies each player had to operate under Kobe had the Triangle which was slower and more methodical and relied on more other players. Lebron didn’t have to deal with that. Lebron had has more Assists? Well you only get an assist if the player you pass to makes the basket again this is easy when you’re playing with a ton more all stars and more consistent supporting players. Don’t forget how inconsistent the Lakers squads were prone to being as a Laker fan I always found the inconsistency of role players so frustrating. These are just a few examples of the difference between Kobe and Lebron honestly how many times did Kobe take on larger stronger players or smaller faster players how many clips of Lebron dunking on centers do you have but we have clips of Kobe postering Yao, Shaq, Dwight Howard on and on. Because context matters.

If LeBron and Shaq were on the Lakers together, they would have been Orlando in the 90s at best. One of the biggest arguments that Kobe has is that he played in arguably the toughest conference in NBA history. In the 2000s West, you had to win at least 50 games to get into the playoffs most years, and some years you could win 50 games and still miss the postseason. People who didn't watch the NBA in the 2000s don't really understand that until KG and Ray Allen joined the Celtics the Western Conference Finals was the real NBA Finals, and the Finals was really just a formality at that point (the '04 and '06 Finals were considered upsets). Shaq was dominant in the Finals and a lot of those Western Conference runs, but if the games were close, he was a liability because he was such a terrible free throw shooter. Kobe had to take those games over, and in a lot of those Western Conference series stats he either kept pace with Shaq or outperformed him. For me, sweeping the Blazers, Kings, and Spurs in 2001 is more impressive than LeBron's 2018 run, and his gentlemen's sweep of the defending champion Spurs in '08 and his entire 2010 playoff run is massively underrated.

The Lebron System does not work. Any system centered around a player with a 4/10 finals record is not going to work. Even Michael Jordan had to evolve from Iso-Ball to the Triangle. I have no idea why people do not understand this. Appearances do not count if you can't close the deal. For me, never losing in the Finals while having at least 3 rings let alone a three peat is more impressive to me. I'd take 3-0 over 4/10 any day of the week. Ask some of the all time greats. They hated losing more than they loved winning because the games that they lost still sting when they think about them.

I really don’t care about career stats. Greatness means winning. You could pad stats on a bad or mediocre team, you could pass the ball off to your team mate at the end of the shot clock to prevent your fg% from going down. If you have a high usage rate you can easily get assists if you’re looking for them. No one is saying Lebron wasn’t talented, he was probably the most talented NBA player to ever exist, but talent doesn’t mean greatness. He spent most of his career after his first stint with cavs (which did have talent on it) stacking his own teams with su-er stars then got upset when the warriors did it after Miami. It’s like he wants to be seen as the GOAT without working hard. Not to mention all his passive aggressive shit. He left Miami because he couldn’t control, or leverage the Heat lol.
