Why is the coyote engine so good?
Here's a quick video I put together on why the coyote engine is so good from Ford. It details some history and special variants of the 5.0 engine
Hope all is well

I have a 2019 Mustang GT. Installed a MGW race spec shifter, along with a Corsa extreme cat back exaust system, and finally had a custom tune put on the car. It is now puting out about 450 HP to the wheels. Have to say she is pretty strong! Absolutely love the car!! In my opinion, i think the Gen 3 5.0 Coyote is an all around great engine!

Can't go wrong with the MGW and putting on a nice exhaust! The Gen 3 Coyote is extremely stout and the MPI change from gen 1 and 2 was a nice addition to performance potentials. Glad you're loving it, that's what it's all about

I've had several 4.6 in different cars. Mustangs and crown vics. The good thing about them is they run forever. I now have a 2020 gt. These coyotes love rpms so I'm getting use to driving higher in the rpms to make power.

Yeah, 4.6 cars were torquey down low, but had that dead zone up top. That's what made them fun though, you could wring them out all day and you'd still be doing the speed limit lol. But the Coyote just keeps pulling, especially the Gen 3 ones. Maintenance is the most crucial thing to making anything last, but every now and then you get a bad egg. Enjoy the 2020 GT!

@@midnight347 I get that, but you could make the same argument for someone who bought an ‘09. The ‘10 had more power, better handling, and a way nicer interior for about the same money. Also, a lot of people who bought 10s were well aware of incoming 5.0. It was announced fairly early on, and once it was, prices on 10s dropped. So, it made for a pretty good deal.

Was curious if you watch any of the Steeda videos on the new 2021 Mach 1. The one he test drives has the TR80 automatic transmission. And while driving it he’s very impressed with how it’s way more smoother with its shifts, that they’ve definitely perfected the constant searching problem it seems to have.. My question to you is.. Is this a tune that I would be able to get in my 2020? Or did they do something different to it in 2021???
@jeffmartin2675
@jeffmartin2675 2 жыл бұрын
Ford and nearly every automaker tends to do some tweaking, especially for specialty model/trim vehicles. Ford most likely altered shift points etc in the new Mach 1 since the people buying it want it that way, honestly along with a lot of the community. Ford definitely had the searching issues to appease fuel economy numbers, but you could easily get an aftermarket 10r80 tune from a reputable tuner like Lund or Palm Beach Dyno etc. Getting one directly from Ford could be a possibility, as I've seen in the past when going in for warranty or recall work, but my advice would just to go to an aftermarket tuner with continuous communication and support.

Volumetric efficiency! 4 valves just flow more than 2 valves it doesn’t matter how big your intake and exhaust are in a 2 valve. 2. Variable cam timing. The ability to move valve overlap to where it is most efficient for a given RPM is extremely valuable for power production. 3. More RPM = more HP. Putting the cams in the head reduces valve train weight means you can spin more RPM add that to a smaller displacement being more rev happy. Horse power is ripe for the taking.

The scat packs are nice cars in their own right, but they are priced pretty steeply I agree. I remember I checked out one a while back and they're great for cruising etc. but the mustang just has something a little more special, not to mention weight. Imagine this: 2011, I just bought my first brand new Mustang GT500. Since it was summer, I was ordering from the factory a 2012. 550 hp. You know what happened in 2013! Well, 11 years later I still have that 2012, and am looking to add to my little fleet with a modern Mustang. Decisions, decisions. The Mach 1 is probably it, but how well is the voodoo engine holding up? I'm kind of afraid to buy a used one that--obviously--has been ridden hard.

Ahh man, you had the exact opposite problem! lol. The 2012 is still stout though, no doubt. The Mach 1 is great imo. I am biased to a GT350 since I want one, but I totally agree with hesitation if they were abused. The engine was designed for that is my logic, but I would worry more about maintenance and how much care went into that stuff. It's one thing to be driven hard from time to time, but driven hard all the time and no maintenance is a hard pill to swallow. Have you looked at any? The Mach 1 is essentially the GT350, if not better without the voodoo

I love shifting manually, but there is no question that the 10-speed automatic is quicker. I still love my (now old) GT500 . . . but I'm kind of interested in something more modern. Oddly, I'm also interested in the Mach E. Don't laugh. I test drove a Mach E GT, and the damned thing is FAST! I can't really afford to keep the GT500 and acquire a Mach 1 and a Mach E. @jeffmartin2675
@jeffmartin2675 Жыл бұрын
It basically comes down to heat dissapation. The more heat you can dissipate as quickly as possible, you're able to have higher compression ratios and not risk detonation. So in turn, keeping things cooler will work for breathing and intake temps for air/fuel ratios which also have a more dense charge, yielding more power and stability.

Whoever spends 45K is either loaded or dumb tbh, but 2,800 miles is also very low and most of them have been beat on and have higher miles, so I guess to some people it's justified. For I know the outcome was wasn't across-the-board it didn't go quicker then Veyron but didn't Koenessegg use the coyote engine blocks as a start to take the top speed production car status?
@jeffmartin2675
@jeffmartin2675 2 жыл бұрын
I know in the early days and seeing this on topgear etc, but the CC8S was the only Koenigsegg to use a Ford engine. Since it was a few years prior to the coyote development, it's unlikely that the 5.0 is the one they used since claims are that Koenigsegg used an all aluminum 4.7 block that was supercharged. This most "likely" lead into some preliminary coyote foundation work though. I just think it was a one off specifically designed instance since Koenigsegg wanted to cut costs by not having to spend money on R&D and building an engine from the ground up. They now do that however and they're amazing cars.

Pretty funny that people praise this engine, Toyota did everything better all the way back in 1989 with the 1UZ. All aluminum, 4v 4 cam v8 that stock bottom can handle 1000hp. Also has a an 8k rpm limit that only the voodoo could challenge. Using a timing belt made it better because you didn’t have problems with chains snapping and guides failing like the 1st gen f150 coyotes. Yes only a 4.0L and because it’s much older that it makes less power but I think it’s still better in every other category with sound included.

I'm not saying the Ford 5.0 coyote isn't a good engine but stock the Chevy 6.2 produces simular horsepower and better low speed torque yes it's 1.2 liters bigger but has only 16 valves and one camshaft vs 4 camshafts 32 valves now if you want to compare apples to apples lets compare the GT 350 engine 5.2 it makes 520 horsepower vs the new 2023 GM 5.5 Z06 engine that makes 670 horsepower consider Ford has been building this type of engine or platform since 2011 that's 11 years GM or Chevy hasn't had a 32 valve engine since the mid 90s ZR1 and it wasn't even built by GM it was contracted out GM purchased them and installed them had nothing to do with the research and development of this engine so they come out with a 5.5 32 valve 4 camshaft engine naturally aspirated first attempt of building a engine of this type and make 670 horsepower compared to Fords 5.2 that they been building now for 11 years making 520 do the math the GM engine makes120 more horsepower and is the first attempt at such a engine in a production car means Ford seriously needs to step up their game were not talking 20 30 or 50 horsepower difference here it's 120 horsepower l know the next excuse the Chevy 5.5 is .3 bigger than the Ford 5.2

GT500 comes with 80 more hp and is (at least) 20K less than what the Z06 will be. The camaro is chevys "rival" of the mustang, not the corvette. Fords equivalent to the Z06 would be the ford GT, but they aren't mass produced like corvettes are. Which is interesting because i saw a couple of months ago, ford was looking at developing and mass producing a car that was their answer to the corvette
