It is amazing to read through the comments of so many misinformed citizens. Do the research, talk to employees of the postal service. No other federal agency has to pre-fund healthcare, period. Politicians within the government have been trying to privatize the post office for years. Those of you complaining about the service and delivery standards, that is a direct result of privatization efforts. The post office has been reorganized multiple times, to make it easier to sell of later. Processing facilities have been closed, post offices have been closed, delivery areas have been combined. This is not efficient, this puts the work load on fewer people, and contracts more labor out to third parties. OIG has repeatedly filed research studies that shows that the government's reorganization of the post office has cost more money than it has saved. The postal unions are not the problem. The postal service, like the rest of the federal government has a management problem. As the wage divide in this country grows larger and larger, you people waste your time, commenting about situations that you have no working knowledge of. Now is the time to become an activist and stand up to the economic destruction that our government performs on our working class. Educate yourselves.

So the postal service has a "management problem" yet the solution isn't to privatize it and get more efficient management? Have you considered the possibility that the government is mismanaging the postal service precisely because it isn't private, and therefore has no incentive to run efficiently, given that it can never go out of business? Privatizing the postal service isn't a radical idea; Australia, the UK, Japan, and other countries have already done it.

Privatizing the post office will ensure that if you live in rural areas it WILL BE HARDER TO GET YOUR MAIL.
@Flaccid_toast4 жыл бұрын
There will always be a free market for someone being responsible for delivering mail. I live in a rural town and there are private companies that collect trash that do just fine. The mail isn't that much of a leap when thinking it could do well privitized. We already have companies that would be able to have a government contract to deliver mail to those area. It might be harder, but that doesn't immediately mean that it would be more expensive. I will say that you cannot expect to have an organization like the Post Office not receive tax dollars, but at the same time cap what they can charge for a package. The government killed the Post Office once that legislation was in place. If the government could screw that up so quick why would we give more money to a failing organization?

We need the post offices. Why close a service during a pandemic? Do we rally need to close post offices during a pandemic? That would be another slap to Americans pocketbook and another confusing change that we don't need right now with the pandemic. I guess businesses still open will not get paid, especially by the older generation. Also, people will not get medicines etc etc. It's a bad idea to go to the pharmacies right now for older Americans. It is better to have items mailed to you. Don't make changes that are not necessary right now because there is enough change with the pandemic.

US government needs to intervene in an old system. Sell the US postal service in sections. I don't know if trump can do this, but someone needs to. Have you seen salaries, and pensions in the postal service????? Then you would understand

It should ve privatized. Fedex is a good example.

jookbj Who do you think processes the majority of FedEx and UPS mails? THE UNITED STATES PISTAL SERVICE! Check your facts. It generates its own revenue with NO TAXPAYER DOLLARS. USPS is one of the largest contributors to Federal retiree pensions and benefits...from the President to the guy who changes light bulbs. Check your facts. The Founding Fathers wrote the existence of a national communications network into the Constitution, hence the Post Office. It is a constitutional institution. Not for profit, but for service to the citizens. IT BELONGS TO YOU, CITIZEN.

Just privatize it. There really is no need for it to be run by the government.
@carsonc294 жыл бұрын
that would be a terrible idea...the cost for basic services would skyrocket...postal service is a social service much like public transportation..its objection shouldnt be to make profit...maybe if the gov't quit making them fund retirements 75 years in advance then they'd have free $$ and wouldnt be in the hole
@trem8764 жыл бұрын
@@carsonc29 why would it sky rocket? How can you pay for worker benefits 75 years out and have low prices? Someone is getting screwed somewhere...
@trem8764 жыл бұрын
@@carsonc29 also, buses and trains should be privatized.
@carsonc294 жыл бұрын
@@trem876 um no..neither buses nor trains should be privatized because then profit would be the sole motivation of operation..you would see an increase in prices..you'd see lobbyist in Washington making sure no laws are put in place to prohibit price hikes..they'd convince local governments that hiking up prices would be a good move...they'd even argue that suspending routes in certain areas is good since its not "profitable" even if people in those areas NEED the service to be available...when it comes to a basic service that serves the common good, profit margins should never been in the equation
@carsonc294 жыл бұрын
@@trem876 that is just my point..if USPS wasnt FORCED to fund workers retirements 75 years into the future, they COULD turn enough profit to not need a bailout or any sort of help..perhaps they could even afford to hire more workers so the services are more efficient..prices would skyrocket because shareholders would DEMAND high returns and you cant get those returns by leaving prices the exact same..the reason drugs cost so much isnt because it cost drug companies tons of $$ to make them..its because they have to give shareholders the returns they want
