There's a reason all new gas cars still use a lead battery....Winter weather dsmage. I haven't ever tried to use a lifepo4 battery in a snowmobile. But I'm betting no one in Alaska uses lifepo4 batteries in their snowmobile.

If you look at the chemistry of both energy systems, LiFePO4 batteries use lithium ions for energy storage, which are WAY more resilient to cold temperatures compared to the lead-acid. LiFePO4 batteries also have higher charge acceptance rates at lower temperatures compared to lead-acid batteries. This means they can be charged MUCH more efficiently even when it's cold. Not to mention lead acid batteries deal with sulfation and actually freezing, both causing TONS of issues. lifepo4 batteries dont use acid and have many small cells, so they do not really freeze, neither do they spill, they dont corrode, nor do the battery juices break-down over time like lead acid. I failed to mention this in the video, but another HUGE pro to lithium is its efficiency when it comes to charging. Lithium batteries take less than HALF the time to charge and this difference becomes much greater in sub-zero temps. Granted, this isn't a prime example compared to snowmobiling, but the lead acid battery in my atv would go dead almost instantly in the snow, even when it a new one was installed a during the summer. So quickly, it would even lose a charge while charging through the atv. I would need to pull start the dang thing. After sitting overnight, the battery was still fully charged and the atv started like a dream. @@a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665 I wasn't trying to start some big online debate/argument. But pretty sure if lithium batteries were better in every way. All newer vehicles would have phased out lead batteries & switched to overall better lithium years ago. You can start a vehicle & use one in the cold but all information online says lead is better at handling temperature fluctuations between very hot & very cold. Which is why they still use them instead of lithium in vehicles. Many hybrids still use a lead battery for the engine. Despite having the large lithium battery bank.
