Why Vitamin K2 is So Important and How to Get It Naturally

Dr. Weston Price, a world renowned researcher and dentist traveled to 14 countries comparing the health of those who ate their indigenous diets vs those who lived in the cities and ate processed foods from cans, tins and boxes. He documented his findings in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. Of course he found that those who ate foods in their natural state were much healthier than those eating the processed foods. But in addition, he was quite intrigued about a substance found in the healthy diets that had not been yet discovered. He knew it was a fat-soluble vitamin, but was unsure of its name. So he called it Activator X because he said that it was an activator or catalyst for many of the bodies’s functions and conferred excellent health to the bones, heart, gave fertility to women, helped the development of babies, among many other beneficial effects.
Years later it was found to be Vitamin K. But not all Vitamin K is the same. K1 is found in green leafy vegetables. Vitamin K2 is found in animal fat, the eggs of fish and is especially high in milk. It is even higher in butter, which is the concentrated form of milk, and he then centrifuged the butter to make it even more beneficial. Clarifying butter increases it even more, which is probably why the ancient rishis of India who cognized Ayurveda recommended clarifying the butter as opposed to just eating it plain. Of course they didn’t know of the name Vitamin K2, but they somehow knew that butter that was clarified was even better for you than plain butter.
And specifically, the beneficial part of the Vitamin K2 is called MK-4, which is found in food. There are several other side chains of Vitamin K2, such as the MK-7 found in the synthetic Vitamin K2 supplements, but its health benefits pale in comparison to the real thing found in the milk, butter and ghee.
This is important information to know, because so many people are taking synthetic K2, the MK-7 version and aren’t aware that milk, butter and especially ghee contain the kind the body can use to correctly bind the calcium found in the body and deliver it into the teeth and bones. This is why the indigenous people Dr. Price studied had strong bones, excellent dental arches, no dental cavities and exhibited robust health compared to those who had refined vegetable oils and processed foods.
It’s important to learn about this Vitamin as it can prevent so many diseases, provided you get it in the correct form, Vitamin K2 MK-4, found only in food. The synthetic versions do not contain this specific version of Vitamin K2.
Many people have been told from such a young age to avoid cholesterol so most of the world is avoiding it now and following low fat diets. Many people are on cholesterol medicine which depletes the body of Vitamin K2 MK-4, and many others have been avoiding animal milk in favor of plant-based milks, thinking this is the correct thing to do when in reality they are unwittingly depriving their body of a fat which ironically can prevent heart disease, instead of causing it.
Please listen to this video a few times to thoroughly understand the information presented here so you too don’t go down a path of avoiding cholesterol, eating a low-fat, going on statin drugs and purposely avoiding cow’s and goat’s milk which could create a deficiency in this very valuable vitamin which Dr. Price found conferred great health and longevity.

I can't believe I have Weston Price's book on my shelf and yet I am a victim of culture. First, having low D, I was instructed in taking large doses of D3 and then, thinking I was fixing my first misinformation by taking MK7. Thankfully I have rejected the low fat/margarine fad and drink whole milk and eat real butter, and cheese, but now I will include Gee and pick up Mr. Prices book. Thank you!

Lol! You have something there though. Still, I enjoyed listening to this lecture a second time, and I will likely listen to it again, and again.. Dr. Marianne has packed this podcast chock full with stories and so much of all kinds of information worth reviewing. What we use inside of our cells is dependent on fat soluble vitamins we eat in foods; not synthetic, but the type our bodies can metabolise easily lihe animal fats and ghee! Stay healthy and keep smiling. TG Dr. Teitelbaum knows how to communicate to all levels of knowledge. It sounds like she learned new things herself in researchingbthisctalk, and was enthusiastic to share it all. A great lecture. Thanks for making me grin .

Great information! I've been hearing about having K2 or K4 or K7 supplemented with D3 for a few years but didn't know why or which was from what foods. It's amazing because I've been eating butter for years and been taking D3 since 2005. Was kind of worried about eating butter every day. Switched from margerine to butter about 2007 and I so rarely get sick with colds or flu, or anything, and am in my late 60s. Will give ghee a try as well. Also, I might add that I'm not on any medication. I just take whole food vitamins and haven't been obsessive about it everyday either.

An egg yolk can contain between 67 and 192 micrograms of vitamin K2. This amount depends on what the hen eats, however. Most chicken feed today is fortified with vitamin K, and this content passes onto the egg. But chickens fed corn or soy-based diets are more at risk of vitamin K deficiencies.

I think people get hung up on how an 'expert' on nutrition looks and so if they don't fit their notion of a healthy person, then they don't pay any attention to him or her. But I think it's time they learn that some people who don't look healthy really are healthy.

It's amazing that some will take what a nutritionist or a trainer has to say as gospel while taking a Doctor's advice is just crazy. Most Doctor's don't get more than one day of nutrition class, but there are Doctors that realize poor eating habits are not the only problem, many see that most food is not really food anymore and have devoted their lives to turning the tides on all the metabolical illness's. I've been watching health video's on KZbin for 7 years and I've learned untold amounts of the correct information yet, I can't get people to take me seriously. Ghee is part and parcel of Indian Cuisine. Western influence misguided us for years. Thankyou for valuable information.

Fantastic info, but please know there are many of us who are highly allergic to dairy products. In my case it’s from casein specifically, and luckily there is actually one certified dairy-free brand of ghee available.

Any ghee is casein free because it's just pure fat. Nobody needs to certify it

Olive Oil is excellent for you. it does have a low smoke point, but if you only use a very low heat for cooking it will be fine. also, Olive Oil is the only oil that doesnt produce toxins when it is heated. I have an Olive oil drink each day..the juice of 2 freshly squeezed lemons, a tablespoon of Olive Oil, and a good pinch of cayenne pepper powder. plus I use Olive oil in all my cooking.
