In this first video I tell you a little bit about who we are and why we decided to leave our jobs in the Netherlands and move to Portugal, without a set plan and a three month old baby. If you would like to see how we build our new life please subscribe for regular updates.

New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten and our toddler Puck on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands a little over a year ago, and moved south in our old campervan. Last year we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. Slowly we are cleaning the land and building our dream off-grid homestead from the ground up. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home. Want to see more updates? Don't forget to subscribe!

I moved also to Portugal for the same reason. I had a burnout and was 10 weeks in a therapy. Enough time to think about how you would like to live to not get to this point again. So here we are since 3 years and we do not regret that we did it. It's a wonderful place! We love the nature and the people.

Hello family from the Nederlands, I'm dual citizen, Canadian/Portuguese and approaching 60, hoping to make the move soon as well. Found a cottage close to where i was born. I had that "live to work" lifestyle for too many years, hope i have many more years to enjoy. Welcome, and goodluck...🙂

Yep... city life sucks... we are moving in March 2022 ...we live on a farm in South Africa...my husband had over 40 years experience in bee keeping and apiology... we are leaving due to the state of South Africa and we were attacked and robbed on our farm. We are over 50 years old. You made the correct decision... well Done ... see you soon :)))

My wife and I just started watching your videos and I had to laugh....we watched one from two years ago when you talk about completely leaving the day race....one of our favorite KZbinrs is Shawn James where he talks about living in a self reliant manner.....the two of you sound so much alike it was great...community living helping each other and becoming as self sufficient as possible...he has actually made his log cabin for his wife and two daughters with as little power tools as possible...love what you are doing...we are slowly working out way through videos...

I came across one of your videos the other day and have watched a few more. I began watching because I have thought often of moving to Portugal where I heard people are friendly and life isn't so hectic. It's nice to see someone doing what I have only dreamed of. Best of luck!

Finally 1st video comes around on the auto play. From 2+ years ago awesome you guys. Reminds me of us back in the 60's in certain hippie communes before the government and local authorities well locked up after being segregated. Sorry don't want to harsh your mellow. Awesome job stay safe and be good.

We had a great setup in that place. At our own property we sadly don’t have the possibility of extra hydro, but in the future we might add some wind.

I was also looking at the possibility of moving to Portugal in 2-3 years , when I have saved enough money to buy land. We have basically the same dreams in life regarding sustainable, self- sustained living. I just wanted to ask you, do you know if there are regulation regarding needing government permission to build a house on your land are strict in Portugal? Also do you recommend any specific regions in Portugal for having good fertile land? Finally, is it necessary to have good Portuguese before you move?
@ourportuguesehomestead
@ourportuguesehomestead 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! It really depends on the district how they are regarding regulations, as well as what type of house you are building. We are in Central Portugal and love it here. The north is also nice, and the south (Algarve and Alentejo) are too crowded and will get too dry too soon in my opinion. We don’t speak much Portuguese yet, it’s a hard language to learn, so if you really want to move and have to time for lessons I would take them. Hope that helps :)

You need to be quick because a lot of foreign are come to buy land in Portugal, even from Spanish people. And with Corona virus the houses in big cities going down but land prices arise.

Depending on your budget and preference with regards with the weather, food etc...I personally prefer the south. Mainstream Algarve is crowded but you can also get a lovely quiet spot more eastern inside the Towns, with a land plot,the sea and highlands all in one.Lots of fresh fish and sea food .Plus you’re a drive away from Spain, Alentejo ( where the produce is to die for) and Lisbon ( my birth place ). ☀️

Gefeliciteerd! Groet, Ingrid Congratulations! I am very curious how the purchase went, what you had to arrange, who helped you (lawyer?), did it cost more or less than the 10% purchescosts and what kind of land you bought (RAN, REN, with or without ruin / house). And of course what will you do with your purchase? Many questions, but little or no clear information is provided on the internet. We also want to buy a piece of land ourselves in Portugal, but you mainly read about scams and that you are actually not allowed to do anything without the government's agreement. Greetings, Ingrid
