This is my fifth year as a teacher and I am thinking very hard about not renewing my contract for next year. I just can’t handle this profession anymore. I hate admin who have no idea what they are doing. I hate students who are so lazy they can’t be bothered to do anything. I hate the long hours I work grading stuff and giving feedback where students just don’t care. I hate always worrying about how I am getting such lazy ass students ready for state end of year exams. I hate spending long hours trying differentiate activities for students. I hate that 80% of my students can’t do anything that grade level appropriate. I hate having to go to endless meetings and professional development about how we as teachers need to differentiate more and be creative to engage students, when they are so lazy to do anything. I hate how so many students have lowest lost basic vocabulary. Fuck it, I’m just going to say it, our school systems need serious reform, and not just putting more emphasis on teachers and districts to help train them better, but bring back much higher standards on students across the board.

Woow, I think it is time to call it a day. I am of the mindset of making each day count. Being this frustrated in your profession is not worth it. I hope you find what you really love and are passionate about so it makes each day worth waking up for. If you love teaching, have you considered going to a high calibre school instead, I did that and it helped for a bit. Now I'm building a digital business which includes teaching and speaking,so I get to use the skills I have and love using.

Liked and subscribed. I’m a second year teacher and Now that I’ve been in the education system and know how it works- how broken it is… I have decided not to renew my contract and forfeit my scholarship. I was raised by a teacher. I heard all of her stories my entire life and yet for some reason I didn’t truly understand until I entered teaching as well.

Hello! Liked and subscribed. I am a former high school math teacher going into the healthcare field. Everything you said spoke to me. It is hard to understand unless you have lived it. I so appreciate your positive attitude, which you simply exude! It can be hard to figure out alternatives that are not mainstream career paths, and I'm sure you have hustled and worked hard to get where you are. The road less travelled can be better many times, though. The work you are doing is surely helping people who want to be helped - which cannot always be said of traditional teaching. I hope I can put together a career that balances my family life and allows me to be a good mom and wife as you seem to be.

Exactly.... The pressure of syllabus completion is just silly. In India the school year starts in April and we are supposed to complete the syllabus by December with every book having 20 chapters.... I am speaking for maths.... And we are also not supposed to give more homework to the students... Only 4 to 5 sums everyday. Also we are to make sure they are not being presuured in any way... Seriously.... I mean if the teachers are not allowed to do half the stuff then how the students are going to handle pressure when they are in the job area

I feel extremely confused about what direction to go in....I've always had a passion for kids and teaching but my degree is in marketing and I never found a decent job with it. My heart in college always felt a calling to work with children in some way and in helping them but its been so overwhelming, as many of these jobs require masters degrees but still not enough job openings for where I live. I've thought about getting a certification in teaching and then always had an interest in being a Speech Path but don't want to go back to school if the jobs here are limited

I have taught for over 15 years from preschool to adults, in regular schools to alternative or probation schools. I have my masters in educational psychology, but no license to be a psychologist. I'm done with the school politics and need a different career ASAP. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
