Bulking is about mass, not strength or toning. The idea is the more mass you have the easier it is to grow or rather turn that mass into muscle. This is not at all accurate. It has however served to fuel a very costly and expansive body building industry for several generations.

Unpopular opinion:I think that our Doctor Greg (which Im a fan of) kinda got us all into this bodybuilding approach when we look at how much muscle we have and how much we weight. The Cali approach is mostly how well can you perform first then how you look is just a bonus. Im happy that you are going back to your roots with progressing in performance,your body will follow. You may not be as bigger as a bodybuilder but you can do things that those bodybuilders can ever imagine doing with their muscles. Great video.

When we eat a lot and try to get as big as possible it’s harder to maintain because we as humans aren’t really designed to consume that much if it isn’t within our natural weight and genetics to be that big . Some people are just genetic freaks tho and have always been big and swole without reallly any effort

This is naturally and really heavily goal-specific thing, but for me it's easy to agree. I'm also a hard-gainer (also bad appetite) with also good amount of natural flexibility. Have been 63-65kg/180cm for the most of my life. So yeah, skinny guy, but with reasonable relative strength. During 2003-2004 I wanted to test if it was possible for me to gain weight rather fast. And it indeed was. My weight peaked 83kg but there was simply way too much downsides to continue. I truly hated eating so much, felt so goddamn heavy and also started to feel that my flexibility was losing fast, and was feeling.. ..chunky? Even if I still was not particularily fat, but of course fatter. That flexibility part would have not being so bad if I would have put more effort in strecthing, but else, meh. It took 4-5 years to get back to approx. 65-68kg weight. Did not really try to lose weight but I quit training which kills the appetite even more and things just got normalized. Now, after 1 year training with calisthenics combined with some basic weight training and with just adding slight amount of food to my daily normal (just eat tiny bit more what your body tells you), I've gotten my weight to 71-72kg (gain of 5kg in an year) without having that feeling of being any heavier and also amount of fat has not been changing much, so it does feel a lot better. I also like that feeling of being relatively strong (which I'm not, but at least developing) so for me this is definetily the way to go. Body clearly needs quite a lot time to adapt to that extra weight, so I'd rather do this in more patient manner.

Bulking is like trying to drive a nail with a sledgehammer. There will be consequences, it is just a matter of bad they are. Good video overall. The nutrition side of things could be greatly improved but that is personal choice and to each their own. The good thing is that eating healthy is less costly than bulking and much easier to accomplish, plus it can be done with very simple meals. FYI - Your metabolism is directly connected and tied to how well you maintain your body as far as nutrition goes. IF you fuel yourself right, then it will be in the good range, else it will slowly fade into a big ol' keg belly if left unchecked.

@@tayekenndy7759 he probably just doesn’t want the biggest legs and for good reason cause his legs are still very aesthetic. Legs are not hard to grow huge at all I’ve been training for a little over 2 years but only been training legs for like 15 months now and my legs are huge. Granted I am only 16 so recovery and building muscle is no problem at all. My legs are very big and dense but not aesthetic whatsoever despite having a near 300 pound squat all the way ass to grass at 5’6 maybe 148. My point is he could definitely get bigger legs if he wanted to but not everyone wants tree trunks.

I've been training calisthenics for the past year because, of you know.... I actually like this training style much better! I'm not bulking anymore, it messes with my head too much. I just want to be lean and I really like those feeling light days you mentioned. Who'd of thought I could relate more to the calisthenics guy than I did to the bodybuilders

How can you eat 1800 a day and still be muscular? I weigh around 150 and eats around 2500 a day and still skinny
@pwilsonkelly

I'm a skinny 5ft 11 inch 150 pounder who had "bulked up" from 135lbs through compound lifts and milk......lots of milk. There were three noticeable side effects. The first was that I got MUCH stronger. The second and third were not to my liking though. The calisthenics and running that I used to breeze through got noticeably more difficult to do and I started to acquire love handles. It was a useful experiment but I've curtailed it.

That's what most fitness people never tell you... unless you have really good genetics for keeping lean (and the majority of people don't), getting to your biggest muscle size possible is going to include a lot of a fat gain and your appearance may not be what you expected at all.
