The Cali approach is mostly how well can you perform first then how you look is just a bonus. Im happy that you are going back to your roots with progressing in performance, your body will follow. When we eat a lot and try to get as big as possible it’s harder to maintain because we as humans aren’t really designed to consume that much if it isn’t within our natural weight and genetics to be that big . This is naturally and really heavily goal-specific thing, but for me it's easy to agree. I'm also a hard-gainer (also bad appetite) with also good amount of natural flexibility. Have been 63-65kg/180cm for the most of my life. So yeah, skinny guy, but with reasonable relative strength. During 2003-2004 I wanted to test if it was possible for me to gain weight rather fast. And it indeed was. My weight peaked 83kg but there was simply way too much downsides to continue. I truly hated eating so much, felt so goddamn heavy and also started to feel that my flexibility was losing fast, and was feeling.. ..chunky? Even if I still was not particularily fat, but of course fatter. That flexibility part would have not being so bad if I would have put more effort in strecthing, but else, meh. It took 4-5 years to get back to approx. 65-68kg weight. Did not really try to lose weight but I quit training which kills the appetite even more and things just got normalized. Now, after 1 year training with calisthenics combined with some basic weight training and with just adding slight amount of food to my daily normal (just eat tiny bit more what your body tells you), I've gotten my weight to 71-72kg (gain of 5kg in an year) without having that feeling of being any heavier and also amount of fat has not been changing much, so it does feel a lot better. I also like that feeling of being relatively strong (which I'm not, but at least developing) so for me this is definetily the way to go. Body clearly needs quite a lot time to adapt to that extra weight, so I'd rather do this in more patient manner.

Bulking is like trying to drive a nail with a sledgehammer. There will be consequences, it is just a matter of bad they are. Good video overall. The nutrition side of things could be greatly improved but that is personal choice and to each their own. The good thing is that eating healthy is less costly than bulking and much easier to accomplish, plus it can be done with very simple meals. FYI - Your metabolism is directly connected and tied to how well you maintain your body as far as nutrition goes. IF you fuel yourself right, then it will be in the good range, else it will slowly fade into a big ol' keg belly if left unchecked.

I’m surprised to see his weight at only 175 lbs. He looks much bigger or that he’s weigh more… I wonder what his height is because that’s the ideal situation… look bigger, stronger, ripped but weigh much less!

I’m so conflicted I don’t know wether I want to weight train or do calisthenics. But I think I’m going to try cutting and doing calisthenics. Wish me luck

Maybe you can narrow down the main reasons into a 3 minute conclusion for those who don't want to watch an 18 minute video ty

It is directly connected to the food you eat though, so there is hope. But is there will power and knowledge to get it done?

I tried bulking back in the my late 20s early 30s and didn't like it. I started doing more calisthenics around mid 30s as well as yoga and then last year tai chi. Like you I felt lighter and more relaxed while maintaining my strength.

i was just thinking about this, I look good lean and it's much easier for me, but bulking I struggle to get the look I want, I'm done trying to be bigger I'm going to stay lean and keep the muscles popping fuck it
