People don't necessarily fear death, we fear the unknown of death. It's like when someone sees a cave. They don't fear the cave itself, they fear whatever is inside the cave.

@Conny Yakusoku "There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time." This quote hits me. I hope that we can all be remembered by our successors!

Love that quote though I'm fairly confident Twain never said or wrote that. That said I'm also a fan of the idea death was a fine end for every human (and living thing) that has come before me. It will be a fine end for me as well.

On the topic of Mark Twain, if it makes anyone feel better he struggled with this topic also. In older age, he would flip back and forth between believing in an afterlife or no afterlife.

recently, death has just constantly been in the back of my mind. I cry myself to sleep knowing I will definitely die one day, along with not knowing how or when. it’s hard to enjoy life as a whole, constantly being reminded it won’t matter when you’re dead. You won’t remember your loved ones or the fun times. The fact that everyone has the same fate is comforting in a way. I see being dead as how you were before you were born. You remember none of it because you didn’t exist, and that’s how I view being dead after life. It’s hard you know, I’m 15, and, for example, when I’m learning at school I just remember it’s pointless as I die in the end. If you’re reading this and you feel the same, you’re not alone ❤️

I can relate to you, and we very similar in age. I'm 16 and I was suicidal b4 because I was depressed and struggled with trauma. But after my dad in 2020, my first death if a loved one. He worked so hard that he had multiple jobs and gotten a stroke, rarely spent time with him cause when us kids are sleep, he will arrive at night and then leave b4 we wake up. I realized how sad living is, I try to be happy and try not to think of bad things, but whether is thinking about college or future career, I think "what's the point?" I think I want to live as long as possible now, because knowing that I can't eat, sleep, hang out with my mom, my sister and family anymore one day, it's sad knowing that our carefree days will be gone soon. Let's hope that our comments can be evidence of us and outlive us. Sorry for rambling but hope you have a long and joyful life.

If I'm being honest I believe we have infinite reincarnation, I can't comprehend that we suddenly just existed at some point in nothingness, if I'm being honest tho, any outcome of death sucks, nothingness forever, heaven would get boring after a while, you would suffer in some lives if reincarnation was real. guess we'll all see one day when we die.

This video is awful. The reality is that life is what gives meaning to life and death is NOT inevitable and I'll explain why: Technology is all about overcoming nature; all medical conditions will become curable, all accidents will be prevented, people will become more physically durable, ect., so all of the problems that cause death will be cured. Cryonics is a medical experiment that has all of the evidence in the literature supporting its feasibility, so it's realistic to think that people who are cryopreserved under the best current conditions have a good chance of being revived in the future. Rejuvenation research is the area of scientific research in which underlying damages that build up and lead to medical conditions (such as most cancers, Alzheimer's, dementia, ect.) are explored in order to create medical therapies (called "rejuvenation biotechnologies"); after the rejuvenation biotechnologies are developed, the elderly will become perfectly healthy, which will, as a side effect of staying perfectly healthy, lead to indefinite lifespans (this is called "longevity escape velocity"); Aubrey de Grey from the SENS Research Foundation thinks there's a 50/50 chance of people reaching longevity escape velocity by the year 2036.

Not to discount the video at all, it’s a well made, well thought out video, but it doesn’t really address what makes me fearful of death (no one probably will). It doesn’t happen often, but when it does happen, I feel debilitating levels of dread and anxiety. It’s when I think: oh god this is my only shot at life, not redos, no start overs, once I’m dead, it’s over and I will never feel or experience ever again. This thought actually makes me physically ill, all the while I’m having a mini existential crisis. Not even joking the mental turmoil of knowing my subjective experience as a human will one day be instantly extinguished is one of the greatest pains I’ve ever felt.

Nah man, telling about how life is wonderful doesnt change a thing. It by far makes the death anxiety even worse. Who would want to escape from the sweet reality to the emptiness where you cant even think. Death and life are two opposite things. When the life is good, we are afraid of the end to it. When everything goes downhill, we are more than ready to pick up the rope. It is just the simple fact: All good things must come to an end. And it is up to us if we manage to get all important things done until our time runs out

If you're nervous or scared, it's going to be fine no matter how it turns out. One way or another you're going to find out and all that worrying wouldn't have made any difference.

See there's one problem I have with nothingness. While it does bother me as an individual, I will ignore these feelings in my little paragraphs. There is no scientific evidence for anything. This whole preconception that nothingness in death is the "smart" option doesn't make sense. You don't have any evidence for such claims. So that means if you believe you become a unicorn after death or something, that's just as valid as believing that there is nothing after death. Another thought I have is that an afterlife wouldn't be so strange to me. I mean think about it. The universe is so wacky. Particles that exist in two places at once, how the big bang was triggered, the different dimensions (2D, 3D, 4D) etc. To me, afterlife doesn't even sound weird at all in comparison to much weirder and wackier stuff in the universe. Reality is much more magical than any human could make up Another thing is that what makes a living thing living? You and your chair share the same atoms. You could make the argument that life comes from all the biological stuff and stuff like that, but if you inject genetic material into a chair, it doesn't just spring up and start dancing. There is something that we are missing about what makes life conscious and self aware. Energy doesn't die. It turns into a different form of energy sure, but it doesn't die. Information changes as well, but doesn't get destroyed. Science doesn't explain everything. There are theories and studies, but not concrete evidence for a lot of things. While the big bang is almost a certainty, it's still technically a theory. Nothingness after death seems to human, if that makes sense. (Following statements is all my opinion!) Just like how heaven and hell seems too human and orderly to me, I feel like that with nothingness as well. Everything in the universe is endlessly complicated, no way death can be so simple. In conclusion, I feel like nothingness after death is often seen as the "intelligent" option even though we have 0 evidence. It's best not to think about death, as we will never ever truly know. (OPINION) and death just can't be that simple. That's why I believe there is something, but something out of my current comprehension that I won't ever understand in life.

I was stuck in a hospital for 3 months straight not knowing If I was going to lose my son or bring home a version of him that required round the clock care. Once we got out of the hospital and my focus wasn’t solely on his survival but accepting his new special needs, I began getting these really bad panic attacks at night fearing that I’d die and have a heart attack and my son would be left here alone without me to care for him. That terrifies me to my core. I get this way more often than I should but I’m trying to find ways to rationalize and calm Myself down. I don’t want to lose the time I was blessed to get back with my son. So you’re not alone in this.

Repent of your sins and receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Then you will live on forever throughout eternity. Maybe some of the people you love have received salvation and are or will be in Heaven. Heaven is a planet. God patterned the earth after Heaven. So, we know that Heaven looks like earth, only perfect and better. And later on we will go on to populate the other planets. That is why God created them. The thing is though we will all exist throughout eternity. Some in Heaven and some in hell.

things to consider: - The majority of us experience a fear of death at some point in their lives so you are definitely not alone - death is a natural process for us human beings and is just as important as being born. - we have about 7 minutes of brain activity left right after we die, which we can dream about a recap of our lives - as long as you are not 60, you still have a long life ahead of you. Some people think life is short but its the longest thing youll ever experience lol -dont dread about it. You will leave stories and adventures for your loved ones and even though you might not be physically present, you will always live forever in their memory. - most of us are scared of death but given the choice, most would rather die than live forever cuz imagine you will have to see all your loved ones die, everysingle one. And the universe prob wont last forever anyways and youll just be floating in nothingness. Thats just 100% wayyyy more scary and messed up than having a normal mortal life. - besides the fear of death isnt a bad thing, its motivation that youll got to live life the best you can since thats all you have got and every moment shouldnt go to waste. Xo- i hoped this helped!

@@nana-ow4dn I don't want to force anything onto you but I personally am a born again Christian. I think the bible is a great and comforting book to read about death and stuff like that. The reason why I believe the bible is true is because it's a unique book that includes science way ahead of it's time. For example, people at the time didn't have the concept of what the shape of the earth was. People assumed that some God was holding it. But the bible teaches a round earth that floats in space. I believe there are a lot more examples of science in the bible way ahead of it's time. And that convinces me. Even though I may be wrong, the idea of nothing on the other side is not as scary as you think. No regrets, no more stress, no more anxiety, just infinite peace. If Christanity and the bible doesn't convince you, fair enough. There's also a news article about a boy who remembers his past life and was able to remember himself being murdered. The boy was able to say the man's name, his family's names, the man's house. The murder later turned out to be an actual cold case murder and everything the boy said about the house, address, how the house looks in the inside, and where the hidden axe was buried for years was for the most part accurate. To say that a kid somehow was able to solve a cold case murder that happened way before he was born, describe the victim and his house/family without even seeing it in the first place and only used his vision/past life was all a coincidence is a bit far fetch. So that alone is evidence to me that there is more after death

@@nana-ow4dn trust me, the before you were born argument is pretty dumb when you think about it. Death is the opposite of life, you can't be dead if you were never alive to begin with. I usually like to give what I call the table analogy. Let's say you want to build a table from scratch, and you have the necessary tools you need. All you need now is wood to build your table so you go to a hardware store to buy some wood. When you look at those pieces of wood, you don't call it a broken table. How can it be a broken table if it wasn't a table to begin with? Same goes for life and death, how could you be dead, if you were never alive to begin with? The before you were born card is a strawman argument to say the least

thank you. I was trying to explain to my son about my terminal illness and he turned on me. It wasn't what I was expecting. He's a very empathetic person. I was trying to talk to him about what I wanted to do to give myself something to look forward to with the time I have left. It meant that he'd have to think about me and my needs, but he's autistic and even at 18, he went on the attack and pointed out failures of my past and used that against me to use it as an example that I couldn't possibly achieve what it is that I'm trying to describe to him. He lives with me and really can't cope with housework or feeding himself but he has had an overinflated sense of his own ability. He's never demonstrated his claims. The laundry isn't done. The dishes are never washed. I guess I need to construct my death around what is most convenient to him, and his father. FML and FMD.

However you should know that your needs matter and you can do what ever you want with the rest of your time. Forgive your son 💕

@@Paul-fl7fs It's natural for humans to be afraid of death. Our minds and bodies are fighting every fraction of a second to stay alive. There's no reason to believe that death is what we're designed to experience, the only thing causing death is our inability to produce telomerase, the enzyme that retains our cellular health. However, it's a reality thats unavoidable, and we can never know what happens, or if anything happens after death. The very definition of what is alive is something that has yet to be scrutinized fully. For all we know, death as we think of it doesn't really exist, or we're not really alive in the first place. Fear of death isn't irrational, I worry about it a lot. But it's not something we can control, and it's really pointless to be worried. I just started thinking about this, but I think I feared death mainly because I thought I had a lot to live for. What if you feel like you don't have much to live for (not in a depressing way)? What if you feel like you've experienced enough of life? Or if you realize that what you're experiencing now tends to be circular (experienced over and over) until you die? Why then would you be afraid of death if you feel like you've experienced enough already? I think we all come to a baseline reality; if we go too high, we come back down eventually; if we go too low, we also come back to baseline eventually. If you're at baseline now then why do you think you're going to experience more than just the same baseline? After all, it doesn't matter what you experience or acquire in the future, we will always come back to our baseline. Why be afraid of losing something you've experienced a million times already? I've experienced enough of the same to say that my future will not be much different than it is now, so dying doesn't really bother me. I literally just thought of this and it makes a lot of sense. I know my future will have highs and lows but they are temporary and the majority of my future will be felt through a certain baseline, so I'm not really afraid of not experiencing something I've experienced enough already.

I'm scared of the moments before death, like running out of breath. I don't want to close my eyes when I die, because when I close them, I can't open them again. I know that once I die, I cannot come back to the world again. These thoughts really terrify me a lot, and that's why I am always scared and I always need somebody to be with me.

At the age of 22 I had a near death experience. My lungs closed up due to overuse of the wrong inhaled steroid (asthma inhaler.) long story short I ended up blacking out and being carried out of my house by firefighters. They gave me multiple hits of adrenaline but I was still not breathing…I ended up being unconscious and without oxygen for a few minutes. Luckily the hospital was next to my house and an entire team of incredible doctors/nurses were able to resuscitate me. During the time leading up to it, being conscious of the fact that my lungs were closing up and I was truly facing the possibility of dying…was terrifying…I pissed myself…sweating profusely…and defecated trying DESPERATELY to draw a breath. It kept getting tighter and tighter until it was like breathing through a juice box straw that’s clogged with mud. Eventually I just felt weightless and no sensation and then….darkness… and it was the most peaceful feeling I’ve ever felt in my life. I no longer felt this “fear” of death. I was okay with it. During the period of unconsciousness it was as if I was watching myself from third person telling myself to not give up…to keep trying to get a breath…because I knew I’d miss my loved ones and that I was way too young to die. I kept fighting. I woke up luckily and it changed my life forever. On one hand I have an intense appreciation for life but at the same time…I look at my girlfriend whom I plan to marry…and I get choked up…because I know that we all die and eventually I’ll come to that same place of darkness…except I won’t be as strong and I’ll slip into it forever. Death is easy. Its the life you leave behind that is hard.

It kind of helps put into perspective when you have a bad day or do something embarrassing, though. Like yeah, I overslept and got yelled at by my boss and didn't notice that I had ketchup on my shirt until I got home from work, but eventually everyone who remembers me will die, the sun will explode, the universe will slowly grow cold and eventually time itself will become meaningless, so, in the big scheme of things, whatever, it's all good; I may as well just eat some ice cream and watch some Netflix. You can't screw up big enough for it to really matter in the big picture, anyway.

I cant choose what would be better, living forever or living this life on earth and then dying. Honestly I think the perfect length of our existence doesn’t really exist and we just have to deal with it. There are many people who would not want to live for eternity, but also do not want to cease to exist. The concept of life is truly quite terrifying, and life is the only thing that exists to each of us. Scary.

I've known God since 1986, and He speaks to me in my spirit. I've seen proof of Him as the one true God many times over the years. Judaism is what we came from and Jesus was meant for the Jews first. Some accepted it and knew Jesus was God, Some continued in the old covenant ways, and didn't accept Jesus as Messiah. Jesus came to fulfill the old covenant, so we are no longrer under old covenant laws. Jesus came that we could all be adopted as children of God, if we receive Jesus. All other religions are believing false man made gods. And Allah is not the God of the Bible.

Im 22 and I’m ridiculously happy and lucky to be alive this long. Sometimes you just have to sit and realize, “Wow, millions of people died literally just today, and I was one of the survivors. Alright, time for the next day” Seriously, think about that. Think about how so many people out there on earth are dying in car wrecks. Having heart attacks. Getting shot or stabbed. Falling off of high places. Having brain aneurisms. And many many other scenarios. EVERY SINGLE DAY. And yet our lucky asses are still alive. We avoided the wrecks, we avoided the murderers, we avoided dangerous situations, and our bodies pushed on another day. To some, that scared the shit out of them, to others, it makes them so grateful and grounded to life.

That’s me right now, sobbing in my bed in the dark trying to picture death. I have thought about nothing else all day. My mom put on american psycho (when i told her not to put a horror movie on cuz she knows i was freaking out all day about death) apparently she didn’t hear me and i look up from my phone ONE TIME and christian bales is stabbing an innocent homeless man to death. I screamed for her to turn it off but it was too late. I later remember he kills the homeless man’s dog too. I ended up uncontrollably screaming and weeping for 20 minutes or so as if I had really just watched someone die. I usually never cry. I am usually fine with horror movies because majority are unrealistic but… The thought of death has been on my mind all day and I want to shake it off. I’m not in the mindset to watch people die right now. I have almost been murdered before in a similar way. I’m only 23, I haven’t accomplished near anything I’ve dreamed of doing yet and I have a feeling I will just bite it any day, in a horrible freak accident or murder. My one fear is dying without having accomplished anything and not being able see my loved ones out. As well as dying without having a will/autobiography of some sort for my loved ones and peers to read, even if it was written long before my death.. I wish the same for others: to feel fulfilled, ending up feeling happiness during their life in one way or another - and to die peacefully.

Feeling "Nothin" doesn't mean blackness... it means how you feel when someone says "what do you feel in a picosecond?"... You will probably answer "nothing" and exactly that what nothin is... Hope you understood

I wish I could make my brain work like all of yours. This video was the very opposite of comforting. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully come to terms with it, although I will find healthy ways to cope while I’m here. The fact to me is, the greatest tragedy in the known universe is that all meaning we can say we’ve found in living, all the beautiful moments we have, don’t truly matter. No one will be around to remember it, and the feeling of happiness, joy and love is just a chemical trick your brain plays to distract you from the fact that they will stop existing as soon as you’re gone. And I don’t see myself as a pessimist. Quite frankly the exact opposite. There are so many things about this planet and universe that we all want to learn, so many places we want to visit and experiences we want to have. We could do so much good with unlimited time here and yet here in our existence death has been used as as a weapon against the weak, a handicap on people’s abilities to succeed, and a reality many just want to brush off instead of thinking about the very real implications of it. The video is right in that death only magnifies the importance of life and the lengths we should go to make it wonderful, but I don’t see how that makes it any less depressing.

@@worry-bunny7328 yup, this video really is not geared toward those that actually fear death. it feels like i’m just an idiot whose brain won’t work like everyone else’s, so it makes me feel better when i see comments from people that do feel the same. i don’t feel as crazy

I don’t know if anyone will see this, and if you do, I hope this gives you comfort. Death is my biggest fear. I think it’s everyone’s because it’s the end, well that’s what we think because it’s the unknown. My moms cousin was in a house fire when he was young, his two sisters died. He was momentarily dead. He swears that he saw something greater out there, he saw a different life, something unreal. He is a total hippie now, and doesn’t care about death at all. I’ve heard other stories like this as well which comforts me. My dad passed away from cancer a few years ago, and I get signs from him that can’t just be a coincidence.
