Doctors mean well, but they often give unhelpful advice, especially to people who need to lose weight to improve their health. Being give unhelpful advice by a "expert" can lead to weight-loss failure, for which you will be blamed.
You'll be surprised at just how many doctors are over-weight. I reveal the percentages in this video and give more info in the links below.

Yup, it's really a mindset change, getting disciplined and continuos learning. One of our son's is a follower of the carnivore diet and very fit. I recently got lousy blood work. High triglycerides, etc. I'm totally convinced low carb and no or minimum sugar is the path..... so our diet is migrating to ketovore. MD put me on meds.... and had the audacity to tell me diet will not help. Son called that a red flag. So began our journey to find how to fix this as naturally as possible. Take care and good health to you.

Hello. Obese nurse here. Why are you suprised? Don't smokers know the risks of smoking? They do. Don't alcoholics know they are killing their livers? They do. Addiction is not logical. Medical professionals are just people and all people have problems. All people do illogical things. The psychology of healing and coping is complicated. Education does not fix everything.

The problem is nearly nobody understands WHY we are all obese all of a sudden. Pretty much nobody was obese in the 1950s. It all stems from oxidative stress caused by high linoleic acid diets. Cut out the linoleic acid and replace most your carbs with good red meat and you'll shed adipose weight and increase muscle weight. I'm living proof. Dr Chris Knobbe, Dr Paul Saladino, Dr Mercola, Dr Jason Fung, Nina Teicholz, Tucker Goodrich. The problem isn't that the science doesn't know all this, it's that doctors are taught in medical institutions that do not care for accuracy or patient health. Doctors become complacent in their practices and stop seeking additional information. Even this video doesn't remark on the actual cause of obesity, even if he got everything right.

My favorite example of the wrong "expert" advice is John Warner, former president of the American Heart Association (AHA), suffering a heart attack during the associations annual conference at the age of 52 and had to have his heart shocked back to function by a defibrillator. Most likely he was following their own advice but was unable to see that their guidelines are wrong.

It does help to make sure you get enough salt in the beginning. I put a little pink Himalayan salt in whatever food I’m eating, and sometimes just a pinch in a glass of water with two tbsp of apple cider vinegar. I will be Keto for rest of my life! Not only did I lose weight but it cured several minor health issues that I’d had for years!! It only took two months!! Keto & Intermittent Fasting for ever!!

Hats off to you keto types. Those macros are to much of a PITA for me to track, so I went full carnivore (occasionally I dirty it up with some Keto) The best thing is, I'm not on a diet. It's a lifestyle choice that has brought me lots of personal satisfaction. I lost over 25% of my body weight 60+ lbs. I weigh less now then when I was wrestling in HS. I "feed" once a day. I say that jokingly because I eat as much meat as I want, usually 1.5 lbs or so, I walk (12K+ steps a day), resistance and weight training. If you are still reading this, listen very carefully to what Dr Berry is saying, it will change your life.

But a book called “Undoctored” told me not to alienate my doctors, rather invite them on MY journey to better health. My PCP was excited. Cardiologist - not so much. But the consideration here is in case I need either of them in some kind of emergency the respect I show them just might make a difference.

Doc, I haven’t eaten a drop of sugar in two years. Since I started following your advice I have eaten only meat in the last two years. My biggest problem is with how much Magnesium and Potassium supplements I should add. Too much magnesium is a little bit rough on my bowels and it’s really hard to get enough potassium to supplement my diet. I put salt on everything and it’s delicious. My blood pressure is fine. In order to lose weight I’ve had to decrease the amount of food I eat. Right now I eat around 250 grams of protein each meal. I fast about 16 hours between dinner and breakfast. I’m rarely hungry and never snack. It’s amazing.

She's told me to eat six meals a day, do WW, and recently the nurse practitioner in the office told me to continue my "low carb/low fat/low salt" diet. Ha. There is no such thing as that kind of diet, but I didn't have time to debate with her at that time since I was about to be done. Unfortunately, I had gotten off the proper human diet for a long while, but now I am back and very determined to keep pushing forward.

Lockdown sucked for a year. I picked up 45# to 246 at age 63. I was over a bit at 201+ in the beginning of the year - best weight for me at 6-0 was 175#. Saw a primary for 1st time in 5+ yrs had bloodwork ordered. A month later I see the Physicians Assistant. I eat keto now but had to eat processed during lockdown. I now...and its what i was eating before I saw the Primary care Dr.... I eat protein/fat, i buy from the Amish, steaks, pork loin, bacon, eggs (free range/no antibiotic/hormones) and some cheeses and sliced low salted turkey breast. Few veggies. No junk food, no more processed food, no sugars (no sodas etc), no starches. Blood work came back: Cholesterol 297 Triglycerides 100 HDL 46 LDL CHOL CALC 231 Non HDL Cholesterol 251 CHOL/HDL ratio 6.5 VLDL 20 ----- HGB A1C 4.9% TSH 4.88 (i may have mishandled a cats thyroid medication) Vitamin D was 21, insufficient, borderline deficient. The PA, wants me to avoid all saturated fats, take 80mg Lipitor and basically eat like a rabbit. And insists that the eggs will increase my cholesterol. Did order me prescription vitamin D at 50k once a week. I will take the vitamin D, but its no sense arguing with the PA....just gonna look for a new primary care Drs office. I've placed the bottle of meds on a shelf as motivation. I have lupus, not taking anything that screws with the kidneys or the liver. Wish me luck. Its been a week, I've added walking 4 miles per day.

Hey Dr. Berry. I had an inverted P Wave or something on my EKG and my Family Doctor sent me to the ER. No chest pain or anything. In fact I felt great. My BP was way to high again, but it does that sometimes. Well I went to the ER they said yep it's an abnormal EKG. They sent me to a cardiologist. He said you need to loose weight. I said I know I have lost 130 lbs in the last 3 years, I used to be 453 lbs., it didn't help my BP at all though. He said do you smoke? I said I quit about 6 months ago, that didn't help my BP either. I also go more exercise, didn't help. I tried stopping salt, till my heart started skipping beats because I was low on sodium. Still had HIGH BP. I told him in need to up my BP meds until I get the rest of the weight off. He asked what I did to loose the weight. I said I eat everything that you would tell me to not eat. I eat MEAT, lots of meat. All colors of meat, and fat. Sometimes I have and entire stick of butter with one meal. I cook in lard and bacon grease. And the weight just started coming off, and all my arthritis went away too. His JAW dropped and he starting talking about cholesterol and putting me on a statin. I am like my Cholesterol is fine, and you're going to LOVE my triglycerides. Well a whole battery of tests later. I was poked, prodded, injected with things that were in lead containers that said radioactive. I was in a lot of different machines and scanners, and they put me on a treadmill and tried to run me till i died. And they did an echo. I had a full round of lab work, etc. I went back to see him. And he said your heart is Normal. There are no blockages, you heart valves are great they close completely, your cholesterol is great, your triglycerides are great. He said I don't know how it's working, but keep doing what you're doing and loose the weight. Oh and the inverted P-Wave seemed to disappear when they were doing the tests, they think my heart was just getting tired from the High BP. They upped my Lisinopril and told me to come back for a follow up in 6 months.

One thing I consider important to me is counting some of the benefits have helped me continue on my keto/carnivore. First without my belly I can trim my toe nails without holding my breath(go ahead and laugh if you haven't experienced it). I normally eat one meal a day because I am satisfied with it. I enjoy not preparing three meals a day, not taking up my time with eating three plus meals a day, as I once did. Hey and less dishes to wash with just one meal a day. There have been bumps in the road to weight loss and recovering from metabolic syndrome(still not completely there). Thanks Dr Berry you have been a great help to myself and several friends and family members. 73, Mike

But I knew I needed to lose weight because of my BP but also to get rid of my severe fatty liver. I lost it with keto and my doctor was delighted about it and since I'm off my BP meds and take none at all now he said I was a pharmaceutical company's worst nightmare. He even said he might try keto since he has other patients who have gotten off their BP meds from keto.

I learned about insulin resistance, high blood sugar level, keto, low carbohydrate intake, and intermittent fasting in December 2019, the day after my blood pressure was measured at 198/120. On that day the nurse said I should lay down and think good thoughts and a doctor wanted to me to take another pill. About doctors, nurses, and other medical/nutrition workers being overweight and obese; I have seen that for years, being 66 years old, and always felt apprehension about the advise from these porky-physique, white-garbed medical persons.

If you were to ask me how to lose excess weight, I'd tell you to go home and start eating a cow until you're satiated. Don't eat again until you are hungry. Don't count calories, don't starve yourself. Stay hydrated, keep your electrolytes topped off, and get lots of good quality sleep.

I ate until full at dinner with clean keto but I didn’t have time to eat properly at lunch or breakfast. I started eat more healthy fat during my lunch now doing my meal prep for my lunch. Just few more eggs and half avocado. It showing progress slowly but sure

Have you heard of a weight loss program called Naturally Slim? My employer is paying for it and I joined in January. At first I thought it was going to be good because they talked about eating until you are comfortably full and only eat when you are hungry. Ok, I like IF and OMAD. But then the lessons were about how you can eat all your favorite foods, just in smaller portions, eat slowly using a system of eating for 10 minutes, waiting for 5 minutes, then resume eating for 10 minutes. They also say eat your favorite foods first. Nothing is off limits! If you get hungry between meals they say to drink something called H2Orange. It's a concoction of 1 part OJ to 7 parts water. You sip on it throughout the day to fight hunger. The rest of the program is telling you how to overcome emotional and stress eating. It's pointless. People claim to loose weight on. I'm going back to keto after falling off the wagon a couple years ago. It's the only way I can loose weight.

After being Keto for over a year and having reversed an autoimmune disease including RA and off all drugs, I was in my doctor's office for an overdue lipid check. I'm right in the middle of my weight range and in excellent health. My (obese) doctor, , after seeing my total cholesterol was "high" proceeded to give me dietary advice. I really struggled to keep a straight face and rejected the idea that I should take a statin.

The best Dr to have is one who has also struggled as you do/have with the same diseases and illnesses, and have had their own personal victories. They are empathetic, down to earth, and actually know what works and what doesn’t! And they’d never tell you to try something that they wouldn’t be willing to try. (Reminds me of that on Greys Anatomy episode where all the interns has to experience all the procedures that they were going to perform on patients!)

That's exactly what my doctor told me. And, his advice didn't work for me either. I believed the lies. I was on 3 blood pressure meds (for "Essential Hypertension"), and a statin drug for about 20 years. And, taking the meds WAS easier than even thinking about why I needed them. Over that time I did begin to study vitamins and supplements, and started taking the best I could find. Toward the end, my blood pressure started going up (I assume because of the vitamins I was taking - your body is self healing and self regulating). My doctor accused me of stopping my meds and wouldn't even talk to me. He happened to be retiring that day. I stopped all medication, and didn't even look for a new primary care physician. What a racket! The day after I stopped the statin drug, I made a list of about 25 side effects that went away. And, that was just the beginning Then, I found you! My new diet has produced wonders that even vitamins can't match! Thank you Dr Berry!

"Eat less and move more" is still the best advice, it's foolish to say otherwise. "You will feel hungry" yes you will, you give your body fewer calories so it'll want more. Some diets make those feelings weaker but the craving never goes away completely. "It's not your fault, but it is your problem", my weight is most definitely my fault. Being in denial about that is not healthy in my opinion.

I'm looking for answers. I have been keto for three years. I have lost 90 lbs following your advice. I have been at a complete stand still for over a year. I'm eating ketovore, twice per day. I have eliminated cheese, sugar free keto condiments, I eating whole foods. I drink 80 oz of water at least per day. I definitely do not over eat. I have tried fasting, I have given up dairy, etc... nothing I do makes a change. I ate 13 days in the month of February. I did not eat more than a normal meal on feast days. Initially, I lost 7 lbs. Within two weeks, I was right back to where I started. I excersise 6 days per week, I'm post menopause, my labs last year showed my hormones are great, etc...I do have insulin resistance, but what could cause a complete stop. I do not snack, it is not carb creep. I eat meat and eggs. My dirtiest food is salsa for dipping. The salsa is clean, and I do not eat it everyday. I use healthy fats, I'm not hungry, I eat until full. My blood sugars are running 82 or so and hour or two after meals. I still have 100 lbs to lose. I'm at a complete loss. I do feel better, but I cannot be healthy at 100 lbs over weight. I listen to advice non stop and nothing is working. NO KETO TREATS or products. I need something new to give me hope. I'm also at best .09 ketosis.
