Building A Long Term Shelter In The Woods - building the framework of the shelter - building a bench - using old tools - enjoying time in the woods. No talking, only peaceful nature sounds.
I chose a place that is more remote and hidden so that my shelter will not easily be discovered by other people, and if it will, I hope they will be kind people, that will use it to take shelter if they need it, and not destroy it. It's not easily accessible or visible, no dirt roads nearby. There is a source of water not very far away from my camp and I also have all the natural materials I need for building my shelter: lots of dry wood, greenwood that would have been cleaned/weeded by the owner of the forest in the future (I have the permission of the owner to build my shelter there), many rocks I can use for the building, some moss in the area, not very far away too, twigs and branches, grasses, lianas and also some walnut trees and berry bushes for foraging. The place is protected by the wind and far enough from the water source and high enough, so there is no risk of flooding. It's not very beautiful woods, but I will embellish it, the house and the things I intend to build there will make it charming.
I wish to thank one of my friends that helped me buy the old tools I used in this video. If it was not for his help, I could not have made this video. Thank you for all your support and for all the kindness you have shown me! And thank you all for all your kind words and every kind gesture. This channel has a wonderful audience, and I am glad the videos are bringing together many beautiful people. Hugs to you all!

Your location appears to check all the boxes. Quiet and peaceful as well! I Wish you success on the shelter build :) If you design it around your heart, you will not need the hatchet to let the therapeutic sunlight in! I always preferred the above ground bed to have the long branches, they have some spring and are more comfortable for sleep. Thank you Johanna, great start! 💚

Yeah! Johanna one. Tree zero! That is an amazing shelter build and similar to the "hootches" that American soldiers used to construct in Vietnam while involved in jungle fighting. It kept them off the wet ground and helped to protect them from venomous snakes. However, your structure far exceeded their builds and obviously you had a mental plan. That tarp fit perfectly. Your bed and the bench were awesome. Your bushcraft skills are superb. Your work ethics and dedication to the craft is unsurpassed. Well done, Johanna!

@@WildGreenJohanna Hello Johanna I am aware that you cannot answer all of the comments. After all, it also takes a lot of time. At the moment I am still in a wheelchair because I have had another operation. Egg part of the bone has not grown. Now a piece of bone has been removed from my hip and implanted in my foot. That's why I wear a splint and mustn't put any weight on my foot. I hope it will be fine again soon. It's also annoying when you can't do anything. It's not good for the psyche either. But when I'm down, I'll watch a few videos of you and I'll be better! :-) Thank you for your request, I was very pleased! Kind regards Tom :-)

Good Evening Johanna .. Nice 👍.. very nice 😊. You seem to have got off to a a good start and I am looking forward to seeing how your Shelter and associated Projects progress with time. An observation (if I may please? 🙏). I trust that the Site is below the Snow Line. Snow can be a testing burden for a roof and it's supports. I sincerely hope that you realise your Dreams of having a little Wooden House in the Forest. Do not fear how the Forest looks where you are at present. It is still young and must, like all off us, 'suffer' through the awkwardness of Adolescence before it's Mature Adult Beauty becomes apparent. I hope even more, that I will still be around to witness the Realisation of your Dream .. Father Time marches on regardless and one has to just hang on 😁. That is a lovely Poem that you shared with us .. thank you. Yes, one must have Windows in the Soul to let in the Light .. also though .. Darkness is not necessarily to be feared as without it, we cannot see that Wilderness of Stars out there that I have mentioned previously. Waiting to be explored .. the Expanse thereof limited only by the Scope of one's Imagination. Taking Pleasure from one's (chosen?) Career. Our Careers are filled with good and bad .. work-related stress playing a big part therein. I have been fortunate enough to have experienced periods of time (albeit, selfishly on my part, far too short) when 'going to work each morning was an absolute joy .. something to look forward to'. Unfortunately, not appreciated as much at the time as in hindsight. 'That Vine' 🙄 .. as with many other things, the last bit to come down is often the most testing 😁. The cosy little fire .. the flames dancing for one .. flickering a story to us of times past, present and future. A great Companion should one choose watch and listen .. A great, satisfying journey so far Johanna .. thank you .. and for allowing us to accompany you, if only as spectators. Until next time, please take care out there .. stay alert and be safe .. Tommy

Glad you loved the video and the description (poem included). We did not have much snow in the lower regions here where I live this winter, so I think it's ok. Hi Johanna !! Today I discovered your channel, it seems wonderful to me how you describe it to the importance in the home of the fireplace in Romania, I think it was also very important in my country Ecuador, although today modern kitchens are used! I also really like how the ancestors cared for and respected "mother nature" (pachamama, in Kichwa, or chichua, the language of the ancestors)! They didn't know the term ecology (as you say), but they had a deep respect for it! Well, everything you say is very authentic, natural and sincere, that I very much agree with what you mention! I thought there were no people like you left, but he exists and lives in Romania !! ?? I'm going to follow your channel with great interest, because I also love nature and I like to live very simply, listening to the sounds of it, the chirping of birds, the path of the water of a river, in short everything ... !! Just today, before discovering your channel, I have come from a great walk through nature with two small dogs that I have. A big hug from ECUADOR, South America, dear Johanna, thank you for allowing me to enjoy your work in nature / Bushcraf !! Bay bay !!

Hi Johanna a big project for you to do, by learning and using the Canadian jam knot you could have save a lot of your cordage for other tasks. Great video as usually. ATB

It was great to hear you laugh Johanna. I am interested to see that part of the forest in spring and summer, I suspect it will be much more attractive then. I offer only one bit of carpenters wisdom my Father taught me - a 45 degree 'cross brace' turns a square (quadrangle) into two triangles and triangles are much stronger and more stable than quadrangles. If you plan to use this shelter long term, then my Father's wisdom might be of service to you. In short term shelters such engineering principles hardly matter at all. The same principle might make your bench more solid also. Your old tools also reminded me of my Father's garage and me asking, "what is that thing for Dad?".

Thanks for taking us along on your trip to the woods! And....thanks a whole heap for not feeling the need to drown out the peaceful and rejuvenating sounds of the woods with unnecessary music or noise! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Nice brace and bit, by the way! Again....thanks for the trip to the woods, it's given me a lift during these crazy times! New subscriber.
