When I had a severe onset of tinnitus I was not dealing with well at all. Went into depression and lost 15lbs in three weeks due to feeling nauseous everyday and not eating. It took me 6-8 weeks to get to point where I could start dealing with. Over months 3-5, after this started, I tried many different things to help me deal with it. But one of the things I tried was putting in earplugs. I don’t remember why I even tried earplugs, but I did and what I noticed is it was my way of controlling the sound. I felt when I put the earplugs in, I was choosing to listen to the sound, rather than being forced to listen to it 24/7. I put earplugs in for 5-10 minutes a day and when I did, I started to accept the sound over time. And then when I pulled the earplugs out, and got the ambient noise back, my sounds just didn’t sound so bad. Hope this can help someone!

It won't MAKE it worse, but the sound will appear louder with the plugs in.

Wear earplugs around any loud noises - concerts and machinery in particular.

After 15 years with tinnitus, I have never once regretted wearing earplugs. I have, however, regretted not wearing them.

Hi, I am new to tinnitus and I consider wearing earmuffs so I can hear it more therefore become used to it faster. Does that sound like a good plan (will it work?).

@@MedoKudo-t3h I wear earplugs in 2 situations: When it's loud, such as a concert, noisy crowded bar, or near a busy street. Or at night to block out other noise like the AC, and it does help my mind not focus on the ringing. It bothers me the most when I don't expect to hear it, such as during a classical music concert I went to last week (my tinnitus is so loud that I can hear it over live music). But at night, if I wear earplugs, it helps me relax and the sound melts into the background. Usually in the morning it is less severe. I don't recommend wearing earplugs during normal everyday situations. Only when it's too loud, or when you want to relax and take a break from ambient noise.

It is very valuable that doctors who treat tinnitus have it too, since conventional doctors do not understand it.

You folks are ALL in a better position than me. I have CONSTANT, loud, high tone hissing. I actually wear foam earplugs to bed. I'm fortunate that I fall asleep most every night in minutes and get 7-8 solid hours of sleep.

I have somatic tinnitus and it’s almost completely gone after almost 6 months. Interestingly, at first whenever I tried strength training and climbing, every movement made my tinnitus whine so much! And it was A LOT worse during and after training. Same happened after physio therapy. But I noticed the day after physio therapy and massage that the volume was lower. So I thought massage was the only thing that helped. Exercise didn’t seem to help. HOWEVER, once I found the correct strength exercise that trains the muscle groups around the nerves causing my somatic tinnitus in first place seems to have been key. I haven’t had a massage in over a months and my tinnitus has never been lower in volume. I also don’t have to stretch my muscles anymore. All I need is strength exercise. Even if my muscles are sore and nerves are pinching, tinnitus is almost gone still.

@@danielbroomhall8882 It took me a long time to figure out. But for me it seems to come from the trapezius muscle group. Just between the shoulders blades. Cause for years I’ve had maybe a few times a year, episodes where this specific muscle group got stiff and pinched a nerve or something that made my entire back and neck so stiff I couldn’t even move. It resolved on its own in a week or so. I’m skinny and don’t have lots of supporting muscle fibers in my back. But ever since I started doing these exercises, the exact same part of the trapezius muscle group has been hurting the exact same way it used to do, those times when it got all stiff. Only this time, the tinnitus levels has come down to almost nothing. Even tho my back is super sore. Almost as if my body is cleansing out toxins or something from the nerves. I’ve no idea but the change is dramatic. I only have dumb bells but I’ve been doing these: - Dumbbell Rows - Dumbbell Reverse Flyes - Dumbbell Shoulder Press I also do Deadlifts and Planks But it’s specifically the reverse flyes that makes the biggest difference for me.
@MrKennyBonesАй бұрын
@@danielbroomhall8882 I dunno why my comment got removed. But I do reverse flyes. Basically compound exercises.

It's totally a non issue for me, because my tinnitus is only on one side, and the ear on that side is completely deaf due to a vestibular schwannoma (aka acoustic neuroma) and the surgery to remove it. Btw, it was the vestibular schwannoma that caused the tinnitus, too.

I have no choice because I work at a parrot rescue so what is the alternative?
@treblehealthАй бұрын
Try using sound therapy via bone conduction headphones, like Shokz, in addition to wearing your hearing protection. This is a great alternative to provide relief while still protecting your ears.

I have tinnitus. I wear ear plugs to protect my hearing so that my tinnitus gets worse. i wear foam ear plugs when i go to church where this a blasting organ, in my which is super loud when driving for hours. ?
@treblehealthАй бұрын
It's great that you are protecting your ears though we don't want to "overprotect" as this can cause increased sensitivity to everyday sounds. We'd be happy to discuss further. Schedule a complimentary telehealth consultation: treble.health/consultation
