My husband, the engineer, and I, the caboose, thank you so much for the brilliant job you have done in sharing what it is like to be on the trail. We are retired and plan to do a SOBO leaving Katahdin on June 2nd, 2017. We will never be able to keep up your pace, but surely if we go slowly with a mind to being prepared, we have a hope. Thank you, thank you and thank you! I think you peeled away the romanticism but left the romance intact, if you can understand what I mean.

I am already anxious to see your PCT videos start being posted and follow along with your new adventure. You and Joe Brewer have the most informative, no nonsense videos on the web and I have to thank you for the many extra hours of hard work you go through to not only take the videos and pictures but also the additional hours of editing and posting.

Best series of videos I have ever watch on KZbin by far. I love the fact that he is not promoting merchandise, I know they rely many times on that for extra income, and only talks about products in an honest matter. I would love to see the general numbers on such an amazing adventure such as weight lost, products that made the trip easier as well as some you may not have needed. Looking forward to more videos for sure.

I remember watching this series of videos 7 years ago just after they’d come out. Backpacking changed my life, starting with this video and yet I’ve still not seen a single step of the AT. I’m older, more in debt, and closer to the age I’m supposed to start a family at. It seems more important now than ever to go back to the mindset of the young guy who first watched these video, because so far.. the alternative freaking sucks.

Hello Red Beard. I have watched the videos of your amazing adventures while on the AT, many times. I can't begin to express how much your videos motivate me to get outdoors and to be active. I have always wanted to complete the AT and seeing how I live in Georgia, I have always thought it would be easy to just start. However, work and responsibilities have proven time and time again to be a huge factor in me not attempting the journey. My wife and I plan on tackling the AT once the kids are grown and work no longer has a purpose. We both believe that you have posted the most well reviewed and most beneficial videos of any other that we have watched. Thank you for your forethought on recording your adventures and sharing them with the world. We will continue to follow you and show you support. Thanks again, you rock!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I am really glad that my videos have been helpful! The AT was truly a wonderful experience and I know you guys would have a trip of a lifetime for sure. Good luck with the trail in the future! Happy Hiking!

I'm glad I stumbled upon your vids. I went thru in 07. I had an accident two years ago and am now a quadriplegic. I can't count how many times I close my eyes to relive the trail and the silent, contemplative moments I had on top of mountains. Sometimes it's hard to watch with the possibility that I am physically unable to visit some of these places again. But, thank you for being a conduit to allow me to refresh my memories and relive the joy. Good luck in your future adventures.

Watch to the end. Another 'old codger' (both of us in mid 60s) commented about the absence of oxygen canisters along the way!! And too few benches... HaHa. I found myself breathing deeply as you boys climbed and went spelunking over and under the boulders and caves. Whew! But I sensed a determination in you, Red Beard, early in the vids. Congratulations! Your near continual videoing made me feel all the emotions you boys felt, and all the usual points of interest, and some special points of your interest; meeting up with Bambi, for example. And all the beauty too. I clearly see the benefit of the 45 "zero" days. And meeting up with other hikers in restaurants and on the trail. This had to be motivational to you boys. Again, my hats off to you-a huge accomplishment!

Hey Redbeard...I just finished binge watching your GA-ME trek, very well done! I've tried to watch a lot of these type of movies but most don't keep my interest all the way through like you were able to. I think for me the reason was the way you came across as genuinely appreciating the trail, the changing forest types, and the stunning views all the way from mile 0 to mile 2200...maybe with the exception of your rough spot through Virginia. Great job explaining with your camera where you came from and where you were going, elevations you covered, and distant peaks. I doubt I will ever have the ability to take this trek, but at least now I feel like I almost have. Congratulations and good luck on the PCT. (by the way, you may need to work on that left bicep on the PCT as the right one is probably warn out from carrying that camera 2000 miles :o)

Although I won't be able to pull it off for many more years for financial reasons, having all your footage in my mind inspires me to work on staying in shape and get out for shorter trips when I can. Peace!

Thanks so much for making these videos of your thru-hikers and organizing them by state. They've been enormously helpful to me as I plan my section hikes!

Man, simply amazing! The adventure of a lifetime! It definitely shows the grit and the spirit of the human being! Congratulations on that amazing accomplishment! I watched every video and you have truly motivated me to embark on that journey. April 29th is when we do our first hike into the AT. Planning on 115 miles from North Georgia into Tennessee. Just a warm up. But you have to start somewhere! Glad to see people truly living life! Thanks for sharing your adventure. Good luck on future endeavors!

Aw man that looks awesome! Now Im a little sad that I have to(late start) to flip flop. I want Maine to be the finish so I can celebrate with everyone when I get there... I'd bet it would be fun to just sit there for days and watch the happiness on everyones faces when they finish. Great video, man. Now I know a little more of what to expect. Thank you thank you thank you!

Wow that was amazing to follow. I loved the format of doing it state by state. Your enthusiam has really sparked an idea in my mind. I've never hiked a day in my life because no one in my surroundings does it, yet, I feel more inclined than ever before to pick it up, and hopefully eventually walk 3400km from georgia to maine.

Loved watching your trip... thank you for the adventure ...... how many ticks did you have to pull of on your trip??? That's the only things that worries me about hiking specially with a beard.. Lime disease is in 1/3 of the ticks in Rockingham county in NH.. Where I live... An hour and a half from where you were hiking...... What happened to SnorOsaurus????
@RedBeard092410 жыл бұрын
I did find a ton of ticks on me but once I got north of Massachusetts I didn't see anymore thank god. Getting tested for Lyme disease in a week or so just to be careful!

Amazing footage all the way through. You've been a huge resource for getting my girl and I back into the outdoors and section/circuit hiking. After I stopped Exped Adventure Racing in 2006, I've really missed the wilderness. Gear has changed so much in 9 years. We built out sub 12 # base packs and are heading out in April for a 6-day circuit starting in George Washington NP. My dream is to through the PCT with my partner in crime.

I just finished binge-watching your AT footage. What an achievement!! You've really inspired me and probably thousands of others. However, I do have a question - and, perhaps (probably), it's been asked before. There were many areas where there was deep underbrush, over-brush, uber-brush, fog, clouds etc. Were there times that you mistakenly got off trail? Did you use a GPS to keep yourself on-trail? Did you night-hike because of heat during the day?

Congrats on a successful journey. just got done watching your documentary. Loved every minute. Great job at filming and editing. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Really shows nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it. Looks like you met a lot of nice and genuine people along the way and made memories that will last for a life time. Looking forward to seeing your other adventures. Stay safe out there.

Thanks so much for all your work filming, specifically all the views. I seem to be hooked on watching peoples AT trips (hopefully Ill be thru hiking next year, dependent on saving enough $). Out of all the ones I watched you definitely best showed the nature along the route as others focus on the parties or themselves. Couple questions Im sure you get all the time: did you stick with your water filter? How much money did you need to save? Did you find mail drops useful?
