Good insightful test. Based on what I see with these new 115 grain 9mm rounds,the results look very impressive, which seems to be effective for personal self defense purposes. With my background as both a military and civilian LEO and as a known specity bullet series inventor, with my research and development experiences as well as three of my customers who are firearms and ballistic specialists the testing results in most testing showed that a solid metal Flat Nose Bullet were the overall best most effective for overall emergency/police use situations from penetration in barriers to also effectivly stopping dangerous attacking apex predatorial animals. Knowing such, I carry factory loaded solid metal truncated Flat Nose bullets as they are the way to go with.

I wouldn't put this stuff in anything but my M17, and that's because well, that's what I'm forced to use for competition. Not as a target load. This is above the chamber pressure for 9mm by about 4000psi. While that is acceptable self defense rounds, once you get to 3-4k rounds of +P+ through any firearm the stress components are going to start having issues, that means your slide, extractor, chamber, and if it's not a tilt barrel design, locking lugs. Running above spec ammo was why the original M9 had it's slide failures in the U.S. military. We are already seeing the same things start to happen with the M17/M18. M1152 is a round without the trajectory of most self defense rounds thanks to it's 115gr bullet, but the increased recoil and wear of +P+ defense rounds, and the quality of Winchester, which well, when you are running at the max, you don't want that extra 1% deviation. IF civilian M1152 is the same quality as what I've had to shoot, no thanks. I've had around a 1% failure rate in around 2500rds with the ammo since 2020 in either bad primers, ripped off casing bases, and 3 squibs. A 3900psi target load is something I'd only consider for a PCC that can really make use of that extra pressure for velocity increase, and only on a PCC designed for 10mm originally and sized down to a 9x19 chamber. Maybe one that was originally for 45acp, but that would only be if the barrel's exterior chamber thickness was the same (like 9mm 1911's have) and extractor was enlarged.

Wow. I wish I could find the ballistic coefficient for this bullet for long range carbine calculations. Most 115 grain projectiles fall between .12 and .155 (presumably calculated at subsonic velocities) There's a pretty significant difference in energy, impact velocity, wind drift, and trajectory beyond 75 yards within this range, but the carbine is easy to score hits with on large targets at 300 yards or more.

Thanks for the video. I've got some of this and could tell it was hot coming out of my 16" AR PCC. If any 9MM AR guys can help me out. I'm getting a lot of failure to feed and failure to eject, with this ammo, in my 16" PCC. I have an 11oz extended length buffer, Faxon 9mm BCG, and its a PSA Colt stick mag dedicated lower. Regular 115gr 9mm, such as Blazer, works flawlessly, but this M1152 causes all kinds of issues. Any ideas?
@chadh34413 жыл бұрын
If you don't have any issues with standard ammo, I'd be willing to bet that it might have to do with your buffer weight/spring individually or as a combo. I say that because so many have commented that this type of ammo is more like a +P level and seems to be a little hotter than standard ammo. Maybe the spring is a touch in the weak side causing it to recoil at a fast enough rate that the extractor doesn't have the time to get a good bite in the casing to pull it out and discard it. It also could be that the speed of the bolt as it recoils actually causes the extractor to release early or late causing it to jam. I might be totally out in left field and not even close to being correct, but I thought I would mention it since the same issues appear to be common with AR pistols needing slightly heavier buffers to make the gun cycle more smoothly. Good luck and let us know when you discover what the problem was.
@asdaven13 жыл бұрын
I have a 16" PCC AR and this ammo shoots good with the right magazines. It's glock fed and if I use a Glock factory hi cap magazine , it feeds. If I use a Magpul Glock mag it sometimes jams loading the first round. It's because it's flat pointed bullets vs round nose hanging up and catching on the feed ramp on the barrel. I have less failures to feed with this than hollow point loads though which give the most issue especially 147 grain hollow points. I really don't know why these use flat point bullets over round nose with this load because I like the load. But with glock factory mags, this ammo is almost 100% reliable in my rifle. I like the load and my gun setup handles the heat fine. As far as failure to eject, I don't know why a hotter load would not eject over a lighter load. But here's my set up. I have a Macon Armory 7.5 9mm Deadblow Buffer and am running it with a Tubb .308 Rifle Flatwire spring. Those two things fixed almost all the issues with my gun and this is a smooth setup IMO. The .308 flat wire spring is stronger but it's progressive over something like a Wolff XP spring that I tried and slammed the bolt home pretty hard. It doesn't look like it's gonna fit into the buffer too and is a PITA to get in there when you get it, but it will fit and work and make the gun run smooth. A 11 oz is probably too heavy for 9mm and would make more since in a .45 ACP setup or 10mm. I'd get a 7.5-8.5 oz buffer and a .308 Tubb Spring.
@stevegillespie64243 жыл бұрын
@@asdaven1 Thanks, I did install a Strike Industries flatwire spring, and that didn't help very much, with the M1152 malfunctions. However, I did notice much more consistent ejection pattern, using standard pressure 9mm, with the flat wire spring. Runs great on standard pressure 115gr 9mm Norma, Wolf, S&B etc. etc. I will try a lighter weight buffer, and see if that helps. To me it seems like the bolt speed is just to fast. Wouldn't a lighter buffer exacerbate that issue?
@asdaven13 жыл бұрын
@@stevegillespie6424 That 11oz buffer is probably a solid buffer too. I have the Macon Armory 7.5 oz buffer which is filled with lead pellets. It has a dead blow effect. The Tubbs spring might be different than the Strike Industries. I have the .308 RIFLE length one. When you get it, it looks wayy too long to fit in a Carbine buffer tube. But it ll fit, installation is a little bit of a PITA to get it over the buffer detent. But it compresses because it's a flat wire spring and slams the bolt home not as hard as the XP Wolff spring I started out with and also manages to keep more pressure than the Wolff spring on the bolt opening after firing. Lots of my problems disappeared with this specific spring. I had a 8.5 oz solid Q buffer to start with and it was the spring that specifically improved reliability. The 7.5 oz dead blow buffer made the gun smoother. One other component.....weigh your bolt. Not all 9mm bolts are equal. My bolt was on the lighter side around 14 oz. I swapped out my steel weight in the back of the bolt (remove roll pin and reinstall) that came with my bolt and bought the KAK Tungston Heavy weight replacement. This bumped the weight of my bolt a couple ounces to more around 16oz. Some 9mm bolts like NFA come stock at 16oz. But cheaper to swap out the weight than a entire bolt if it'll fit. The KAK one fit mine and was smaller but heavier than the steel one since its tungston. This made a combined weight of bolt and buffer around 23 oz. They say 21-23 oz combined bolt and buffer is ideal. Now say your Faxon bolt is on the lighter side of 9mm bolts like mine around 14 oz? With that 11 oz buffer, that would be around 25 oz. Too heavy. Some people run buffers as low as 5.5 oz and say it's better. But I disagree. Heavier is better from my experience with this but it can be too heavy of a setup. 21-23 combined weight is what your working with. Even with a 7.5 oz buffer and XP Spring, my PCC was throwing cases 20 ft before I added the 2oz extra weight to the bolt...now throws it about 5-10 ft. So the 7.5 oz Macon Buffer and Tubb .308 rifle spring combo cured most of my reliabilty issues. The extra weight in the bolt made the gun even smoother IMO but the gun heavier. Really the TUBB .308 Rifle spring alone cured all the problems. Because then I was using the 8.5 oz solid buffer when I swapped springs. The only thing I haven't tried is a hydraulic buffer which does sounds promising. But im pretty happy with how my current combo runs. It makes the gun heavy but it runs smooth. In your case this combo would make your gun lighter. The Hydraulic buffers are expensive and I question the longivity. Yeah it may run even smoother and good but weight and mass IMO is more reliable than relying on hydraulic fluid and a seal that can blow or fail. Then if it fails, it might make a mess and you don't have as much mass there then you risk an out of battery discharge and the bolt opening too early. The lead shot in my buffer that I'm using more or less has a similar effect to a hydraulic buffer.
@asdaven13 жыл бұрын
Correction...Just looked up the Tubb springs. They only sell 2 buffer springs. One for the AR15 that fits both rifles and carbine buffer tubes and one for the AR10 that fits rifle and carbine tubes. For the 9mm PCC, I'm using the AR10 one. Don't know if your Strike Industries spring is for a AR15 or AR10. AR10 spring is longer and more stout.
